00:00Napanood diba sa social media, itong nakakasatisfy na pagpapatunog ng leeg, ng likod, ng ulo, diba?
00:09Napapanood ko yan. May isang parang aray ko, parang masakit niya, pero comfort kasi mararamdaman mo after, no?
00:14Kaya naman ngayong umaga, sabay-sabay po nating alamin itong tungkol sa chiropractic care, diba?
00:21Kasama natin sa Dr. Rob Walsher III, a celebrity chiropractor and philanthropist.
00:26Good morning, Doc. Welcome back.
00:27Good morning, guys. Great to be back.
00:29Good to be back.
00:30Magaling na mag-Tagalog to mag-Pilipino sa Dr. Rob Walsher III.
00:32Oo, ka musta, Doc?
00:33Mabuti.
00:33Mabuti naman, because Dr. Rob has been here for 10 years already here.
00:3710 years.
00:37Mag-Tagal, ha?
00:39Tell us about this chiropractic care.
00:41How does it work?
00:42Yeah, chiropractors, we are doctors that care for the spine, right?
00:47Everyone knows you go to the chiropractor because of likod, diba?
00:50Meron sa akin, likod.
00:52So chiropractors, we focus on the spine because that is your frame.
00:56Think of your body like a car.
00:58Your spine is your frame.
01:00If your frame of your car is out of position, what's going to happen?
01:04It's going to wear the tires incorrectly, the brakes.
01:06Your car is going to break down.
01:08It is not going to perform optimally.
01:11Well, it's the same thing with our spine.
01:12If our posture is forward, if our pelvis is in deep panthai, of course, that is going to create problems.
01:18It's going to create wear and tear in shoulders and, of course, your spine and your knees and your ankles.
01:24But also the really big, important thing that is affected when your spine is not in the correct position is
01:31your nerves.
01:32Okay.
01:32Right?
01:32Our brain sends messes down the spinal cord.
01:34And your nerves communicate with everything in your body.
01:37It is your master communication pathway.
01:41So that is why you get muscle spasm, tension, pain.
01:45It's because of the stress that is built up on your spine affecting the nerves.
01:50All right.
01:50All right.
01:51I'm just curious, though.
01:52What was the reason why you had the clinic here in the Philippines?
01:55I understand you've been here.
01:56As I said a while ago, you've been here for 10 years already.
01:59Tell us more why.
02:00Well, we sold.
02:01My clinic was purchased in San Diego.
02:04So someone bought my clinic in San Diego.
02:06And it was the first time that I was free from owning a business.
02:09And so we decided, hey, while the kids are young, chiropractic is not well known in the Philippines.
02:14Let's go there and let the kids experience Philippines culture.
02:18And then I can really educate Filipinos about this natural way of health care, which is chiropractic.
02:24Okay.
02:24How was the reception with the Filipinos about chiropractic?
02:26It was huge.
02:27My gosh.
02:28It just blew up.
02:29We just started seeing people out of a little condo we were renting.
02:32And it was full of people.
02:34It just exploded.
02:36Yeah.
02:36Okay.
02:37So if I'm interested to undergo such treatment, are there any preparations?
02:42Or also, who are the kinds of people who should go to a chiropractor?
02:46Yeah.
02:46So chiropractors, we are doctors.
02:48We have extensive education in the body and how it works.
02:51So all schools are abroad in America.
02:54Majority are in America.
02:55So you go to chiropractic school after college.
02:58So it's eight years of schooling.
02:59So you can feel very confident to get a proper diagnosis when you see a chiropractic doctor.
03:05So you don't really need any preparation.
03:07You go there and you have a consultation, history, and examination with the doctor of chiropractic.
03:13And then they might refer you to get an x-ray or an MRI.
03:16But the majority of the time, those things are not required.
03:19And as far as who is a candidate for chiropractic, really, I mean, everybody.
03:24We all have stress, right?
03:26Every single thing we do is stress, right?
03:29Whether what it is we do for work, if we're digging ditches or sitting at the computer, playing sports, how
03:35you sit, how you sleep.
03:37Again, then we have also the emotional stress that's going on in our life.
03:40And then we have the chemical stressors, things that we're taking in, such as our diet, you know, taking medication,
03:47drinking alcohol.
03:47These are all chemical stressors that affect how the body operates.
03:51So chiropractic is more of a holistic approach to health.
03:55Our goal is no medication.
03:57Our goal is to allow your body to perform and function like the way it's supposed to.
04:02All right, Doc is looking at our body.
04:05I'm thinking maybe seeing something else.
04:07Like, for instance, maybe there's something wrong with the framing of my body.
04:10I'll try to see whether we could have chiropractic services from Doc Rob.
04:14But anyway, Doc, here in the Philippines, maybe before 10 years ago, what we have here is HILOT.
04:20Yeah, yeah.
04:21Okay, other therapy.
04:24And I actually have done physical therapy.
04:26Well, I thought it's like a chiropractor thing.
04:28But what are the differences between this, chiropracting or being a chiropractor and also into massage therapy, physical therapy, and
04:37even HILOT?
04:38Yeah, so I mean, as far as I am understanding, HILOT is like massage, right?
04:43But I also now know that they do do back cracking, right?
04:47I'm not sure, but I believe it's kind of like massage.
04:49So massage and PT, you're working on the muscles, right?
04:52So you go to massage and they're rubbing your muscles.
04:55Physical therapists usually are working on the muscle.
04:58They are going to put modalities like electric stimulation, ultrasound, shockwave.
05:03They are working on the muscles.
05:04But during the PT part, it was like there is some parts of my body are being twisted and it's
05:08being noticed like that.
05:10So yeah, here in the Philippines, a lot of people do chiropractic.
05:14Even though they didn't go to chiropractic school, they are cracking the back and claiming...
05:20It's dangerous if they're not knowledgeable about it, of course.
05:22Sure, it certainly can be.
05:24I wouldn't allow somebody to adjust my spine that didn't go to chiropractic school.
05:28So here in the Philippines, there's not so much regulations.
05:31Kind of anybody can kind of say that they are or doing chiropractic.
05:36But that is the difference.
05:37PTs generally focus on muscle, like a massage.
05:41And that's great if you want an hour-long therapy session where they're working on your muscles.
05:47That's great.
05:48It can help a person feel better.
05:50So chiropractors, we believe that the reason your muscle is in spasm is because your posture is forward.
05:56So until you start to improve your posture, you're always going to have tension, headaches.
06:02So chiropractic is a very fast type of a procedure.
06:06It only takes five to ten minutes.
06:08So we are not doing any therapy.
06:10We are just adjusting the spine, the pelvis, and trying to improve movement.
06:15So we're releasing the stress in the joint.
06:17And then the reason it's so powerful is we instantly improve nerve function.
06:21So the nerve will tell the muscles to start to relax.
06:25And so that's really the power of chiropractic.
06:27We are dealing with the nervous system.
06:28We don't work on the muscle.
06:29That is the symptom.
06:32The reason your muscle is in spasm is because your joint is misaligned and the nerve is telling the muscle
06:38to tighten.
06:39So we bypass the muscle.
06:41We just go straight to the nerve by adjusting the joint.
06:43And so that brings up a great point.
06:46Why you should go to a real chiropractor's.
06:48Our schooling, we're taught exactly which nerve to adjust, which joint to adjust to influence the proper nerve.
06:55So when people come in with acid reflux, we know exactly which joint and nerve to impact.
07:02So that way we can help with the acid reflux.
07:02I'm overthinking right now which part of my body needs to...
07:07What's the term to be cracked?
07:08Is that how you...
07:09Well, we're not cracking.
07:10I mean, you hear popping.
07:11That's just air.
07:12Like when you crack your knuckles, that's just air.
07:14Which joint should be popped?
07:15Yeah.
07:16So we evaluate the spine through our hands or we can take an x-ray and then we start the
07:21process of improving the joint alignment through repetitive adjustments.
07:25Okay.
07:27At this moment, like if you scan us or probably see our shoulder, can you actually tell which problem is?
07:32Yeah, I can tell when I just look at people, you know, their head forward or, you know, of course,
07:38how you sit like that is going to lead to issues.
07:40Really?
07:41Okay.
07:41So I just have to sit like this.
07:43Yeah, I need to do some things that we do every day.
07:45I'm just a more comfortable sitting like this.
07:46We do them every day.
07:47And so again, over time, we start to change our posture.
07:52Okay.
07:53If I have a scoliosis, can I also go to a chiropractor?
07:55Yeah, of course.
07:56We take care of a lot of people with scoliosis.
07:58It's very effective.
07:59We cannot, you know, correct a scoliosis.
08:01There's no such thing as correcting your scoliosis.
08:04But we can certainly improve how one feels.
08:07We can possibly improve things if they come young enough.
08:10Okay.
08:11Because most Filipinos, ang talaging concern, lower back, it always has the same.
08:17Because most of us have sedentary lifestyle, always on our desk, and then eventually you'll feel pain in the lower
08:24back.
08:24So how frequent should I visit if ever experience some pain?
08:28So usually when somebody starts to see us, they're already, say, 30 or 35 or 40.
08:33So that's, you know, 35, that's 40 years of stress accumulation.
08:36So it might take a few sessions to get you better.
08:40And then after that, you should just do some type of a maintenance.
08:42For example, like once a month.
08:44Okay.
08:45You get an adjustment.
08:45It's like a tune-up.
08:46Think, again, like your body like a car, right?
08:49You only have one your entire life.
08:51So the better you take care of your body, the better you're going to feel as you age.
08:55If you don't take care of it, you're going to have a lot of problems by the time you're 50,
08:59right?
08:59And then you're not going to last long.
09:01There are all actually some misconceptions like this, that when people are trying to have some parts of their body
09:07being popped,
09:08they're afraid that they might experience some spinal or back problems.
09:12What are your thoughts on this, sir?
09:13Yeah, it doesn't cause injury if you go to a legitimate chiropractor.
09:17You think about it around the world, 100 million plus adjustments take place every day.
09:21It's very, very safe.
09:23But of course, if you go to somebody that is not a chiropractor, it could be dangerous.
09:27Like I think something happened last year, remember something bad in the news, something happened.
09:31And there are existing ones that are not safe.
09:34They're just claiming that they are a chiropractor.
09:37There's many here that say they're chiropractors that are not.
09:39I've tried that once.
09:40And then after what this part was so painful, I think I was with you during that time.
09:45Was it like, where is it?
09:46We should go to the Krobin.
09:48Yeah.
09:49Was it a home clinic or a home service thing?
09:51It's a home service thing.
09:52Well, that's the number one big red flag.
09:53If they're a home service, they're not a chiropractor.
09:56Okay.
09:56What are the other red flags that we should take into?
10:00Well, I mean, majority of us are foreigners because there's no schools here.
10:05Oh, okay.
10:06So.
10:07You have to study abroad if you want to go there.
10:09You have to study abroad.
10:10What specialization are you should be the doctors?
10:13Chiropractic school.
10:14Okay.
10:14It's four years and you have national board exams.
10:16So you go to college, you get a degree in biology, and then you go to chiropractic school,
10:20which is another four years.
10:22So we learn about the entire body, every single system, how it operates.
10:26And then again, like I said, how to adjust and then how the nerve impacts organs and muscles.
10:32So we're very specific with our adjustments.
10:34We're not just randomly cracking your back.
10:37Like you could go behind you and pick you up and crack your back.
10:40Yeah.
10:40That doesn't mean that's chiropractic.
10:42Okay.
10:42That doesn't mean that you're a chiropractor.
10:44So, you know, we get lumped in.
10:47You see somebody get injured in Malaysia and it was a masseuse that cracked someone's back.
10:51That's not a chiropractor.
10:53So that can kind of affect our name and what we do.
10:57Yeah, yeah, yeah.
10:57All right.
10:58So it's very safe.
10:59One last question, Dr. Rob.
11:00Any advice for our viewers before they go to a chiropractor?
11:06Yeah.
11:06And also general tips on how to probably protect our spine.
11:09So here in the Philippines, we must prove that we went to chiropractic school through PTAC, Philippines Institute of Traditional
11:17Health.
11:18And so I would suggest to go to the PTAC website and there you can find out if your chiropractor
11:22here in the Philippines is legitimate.
11:24Okay.
11:25So all of our chiropractors here because we have five branches are all legitimate chiropractors that are with PTAC.
11:31All right.
11:32Yeah.
11:33Well, thank you very much, Dr. Rob, for sharing your expertise here in Rise and Shine, Pilipinas.
11:39Yes, you're welcome.
11:40And sa ating mga ka-RSP, medyo sumasakit-sakit na mga likod din yung balikat, I think it's time for
11:46you to visit a chiropractor.
11:47But make sure legitimate chiropractor.
11:49Thank you, Dr. Rob.
11:50Thank you, Dom.
11:50You're welcome.
