00:02We were dropped a great, wonderful nugget of a story, an interesting story.
00:06Wichita chosen to select the newly expanded NCAA tournament at Interest Bank Arena in both 2027 and 2028.
00:14And Wichita State plays a large role in that.
00:18They're considered the host team or the host institution of doing that.
00:24And so we've had a lot of questions.
00:26The first question we had was around the language, TJ, of the NCAA removing the restriction of a host site
00:35hosting its own team.
00:37Did we get any clarity on that yesterday?
00:40In Kevin Saul's words is that I don't think it's going to get much clearer than what it says in
00:46the release.
00:48So that means who are we to?
00:51And again, it's kind of the same thing that I said whenever I read it.
00:53And then you were texting me is that, well, we need to make sure that that's and I was like,
00:58I mean, we were hearing two different things.
01:01Yeah, that's what I'm saying.
01:02And my immediate reaction says, like, what is what could be confusing about that sentence of if it says they're
01:10playing here, they're playing here.
01:11And again, it's not going to matter for Wichita until that exact scenario were to happen.
01:17But again, as we've said, it's a big thing for teams all across the initial the initial answer to that
01:21when it was asked at, you know, at the city offices was no, they'd still go to Dayton in that
01:27scenario.
01:28Well, then I'm hearing from Wichita State.
01:30I don't know if that's true.
01:32And then, you know, and probably it's a we'll find out when we get there.
01:36There it's such an obscure, I guess, scenario, like the chance it would have to be Wichita State would have
01:42to be an at large bid, which means they can't win their conference tournament.
01:45It also have to be a bottom 12 at large bid to get the chance to even they could still
01:50go to Dayton anyway, that chance.
01:51I think where it would come more into play is if let's call Wichita, let's say they're hosting a round
02:00of 64 and Wichita State was a three or four seed.
02:05Could they then play at home?
02:07That's because this isn't just a thing for Wichita State.
02:11Like it's Omaha hosts can create and play in Omaha.
02:14It's more so like thinking about it is of like, like Gonzaga hosts in Spokane.
02:21Can they play as a one seed in Spokane?
02:23Which has been a thing, you know, before.
02:26So that, you know, it just doesn't apply only to Wichita State.
02:29It just kind of came in tandem with the announcement of Wichita.
02:33That's where the NCAA slipped that in, which was so interesting.

02:37In a release about Wichita being selected as the host city, the NCAA slides in a massive change.
02:44To their formula.
02:45And what it brings to mind for me is.

02:49Why do we even have that restriction effort?
02:51I think you should regionalize this thing because I think that would be a blast.
02:55But, you know, whatever.
02:56That's a conversation for a different day.
02:58So what's the overall sentiment?
03:00I would imagine Wichita State is.
03:02I certainly fond of having it the next two years.
03:07I think that they're fond of.
03:08I think that they agree that they want to be the next date and do it every single year.
03:11Paul Mills, I think, said it best.
03:14And is that, you know, it's cool when we get it every, you know, five years and stuff like that.
03:20And Kevin's all kind of agreed with this too.
03:22But if you get the chance.
03:24And the way I asked it is that, you know, when you think of Dayton Flyers basketball.
03:29In my mind, it goes to two things.
03:31One, Obi Toppin because they're really good that one year.
03:34But two, Dayton Flyers.
03:35That's where they host the first four.
03:37Like, that's what that arena is kind of famous now because they host the first four there.
03:42And so if you have the chance to be, you know, a team, a city that every year when the
03:48college basketball starts.
03:50And it's true.
03:51Like what Josh Allen said is that, like, all right, it's Tuesday.
03:53We've got games in Dayton and Wichita.
03:56And you can say that every single year.
03:57That's one, cool for the city of Wichita.
04:00And it's cool for Wichita State.
04:02He said it best is that, like, as, you know, sometimes as silly as the TBT is and as fun
04:08as it's supposed to be and everything like that.
04:10When you pack it full, it gets people talking about Wichita State, right?
04:14You show these full 9,000 fans, 10,000 fans packed into the roundhouse in late July.
04:20People across the country are saying, holy cow, what the hell is going on in Wichita?
04:25Like, those fans are crazy.
04:27It's the same thing.
04:28It's kind of just another notch on the belt, as the way Paul Mills put it, is that Wichita has
04:32forever had so much basketball history between, you know, all the things and all the NBA players that have grown
04:40up in Wichita that have gone on to play in the NBA.
04:42And then just thinking about the history of the roundhouse, whenever Wichita State was the number one team in the
04:47country for a while there, the two flannel four runs.
04:50Like, there's a really good amount of history for, you know, the city of Wichita in terms of basketball, relatively
04:59speaking.
04:59I think Wichita is synonymous with basketball.
05:03The whole state of Kansas is.
05:04Kansas definitely is.
05:05But Wichita's got a seat at the table.
05:07For guys our age or, you know, and we're not the same age, but we're in the, let's call it
05:13the modern era of it.
05:16The early Marshall years, the final four followed by the undefeated season, all that.
05:20That, that, that, that put Wichita on the map for me, you know, as an outsider at that point, I
05:26moved here right after the undefeated season.
05:29And so, yeah, I, I do think Wichita will get branded that way.
05:35And I, I would imagine that is helpful to Paul Mills.
05:37Like, why wouldn't it be right?
05:39It just reminds people of how crazy this community is.
05:42Just like when we say, man, bring recruits to the TBT.
05:45And he has, and I think it's worked.
05:48He said that he talked about that in itself yesterday is that we had an entirely new team, right?
05:55Like, and by the time they all get here, it's, it's July or whatever, June.
05:58And then it's late July.
06:00And you're saying like, guys, come to this game and watch this.
06:04And all what these, yeah, all 10 newcomers are like, these people are freaking nuts.
06:09What is going on?
06:10They're still here now this year too, right?

06:13That's what he said is that now all these guys come back and now it's like, they know what to
06:16expect.
06:16And all these things, but I mean, Paul Mills, he said last year was his first time ever actually getting
06:22to sit down and go to a TBT game.
06:24And I mean, it's, it's what we have said forever about the TBT and Wichita state is that since they've
06:30gotten this like partnership that they should have been here every year is that Paul Mills said he saw it.
06:35And saw 8,000 people come in there to watch four shocker alumni and a bunch of their buddies.
06:41And it's like, we're sitting on dynamite.
06:44If we can be good, these people will show up on a Monday at noon, probably like as long as
06:49we win games, you're going to get the fans.
06:51And it's 100% true.
06:52And we saw it this year.
06:54Yeah, it was, it was incredible.

07:41Sabandi got hurt and he wanted to make sure he rests before his new season began.
07:45He said, Dennis was going to play after playing in the summer league and then play with the aftershocks.
07:52But he got signed to another contract and said he doesn't want to play.
07:56Well, yeah, you're not going to do that.
07:59We know that LeGerald Vick is not going to play for Jayhawks hoops.
08:03That story is one we have not really gotten into here because don't really want to at this point until
08:09we get more details.

09:28And like a lot of it, like I know, like for the KU team, Tyshawn Taylor is listed as player
09:34GM and owner.
09:36So it's like Wichita State's actually got logistics people to help with these kind of
09:40things.
09:40I imagine this is a nightmare, as they have talked about, because these guys play professional
09:45basketball in different countries.
09:47OK, so and I know we've pivoted TBT and that's fine, because I don't think anything else of
09:52significance came out of the.

09:58Because I wonder about this a lot because I love this new format.

10:07less hype around it this year?

11:06people, is that like, who's going to be on the team and they know more than probably 80%

12:54What if they gave the opening rounds chunks?
12:58Like you get two years in a row and then you go back into the rotation.
13:03So what if, what if the two rotations were two years of opening rounds and then you're
13:09also in the mix?
13:10So like every, you know, you got two years of opening rounds and then maybe within the
13:13next three years, you could still host around a 64 and then two or three years after that,
13:18you go back into the mix to host a couple of years of the opener.
13:20What if they just did it that way?
13:22I think that might be interesting because there are great, like Albuquerque would be great for
13:27those opening rounds.

13:40We just need to be glad because I think the most college basketball thing that it could
13:44have been is saying, Hey, we're going to take all the play in games and we're going to
13:47play them in Vegas.
13:49So what everybody does, let's put it in Vegas.

13:54Which honestly isn't also not a bad idea because it's, there's so many flights in and out of

13:58You could probably get in and out of there pretty quick facilities.
