01:26of the bullpen um but you know for those asking that question legitimately i would tell you guys
01:32the bullpen's still the bullpen like nothing changed there like that's going to be a problem no matter
01:37no matter what no matter what we're looking at um they got duran out there again yesterday he got
01:43shelled so uh you know for for that you know watch party going but you know eight and a half

01:50back like if we if we walk into september and they're what let's say five and a half back that
01:57is at least going to be like all right let's just keep an eye on it you know what i

02:04like we'll pay attention to that here etc i mean it's not nothing it's fun if they could if they

02:09something like that stay hot here it would be the greatest story in kansas city sports history
02:16oh if they came back and somehow made the playoffs i mean this team was left for dead
02:24like to erase uh at one point they were 24 games under 500 if they somehow can erase all of
02:34that and get
02:34in the playoff mix that'd be incredible i mean it really it really would be with no pitching
02:41at all that's just like something that you would only do on a video game i'm not saying that it's
02:46not impossible because we've seen stranger things happen in this sport they call baseball right but
02:53they are playing well the bullpen is a very much a concern like you said carlos duran cannot throw a
03:01strike he didn't throw a strike yesterday almost gave up that game that they were in um you have
03:07guys like conor thomas which is a really nice guy by the way but no one really knows who he
03:12is he's
03:13trying to establish himself in the big leagues um steven cruz is looking good nate pierce is looking
03:20good but outside of those two who you really have in that bullpen you just sent lupus ursac down to
03:26the
03:26minor leagues so like you said the bullpen's a issue really if they're gonna pull this off and
03:32i'll just play along because it's fun to do they gotta get six plus innings from every starter
03:39and hope and pray that the offense gives them the cushion that's the only way they get this done
03:45so you're saying there's a chance jaylen i jaylen you got the piano behind you over there go ahead
03:50and start playing some don't stop believing let's uh let's do this let's you're right brady
03:56you know uh jaylen the other thing i was looking at the standings you know we're talking about the
04:01wild card grace and everything like that just how much more disappointing does all this make
04:06to get back to reality here for just a little bit when you look at the american league compared to
04:11the national league and let's see there's only what one two three four yeah four teams above 500
04:20in the whole american league you know you look at the national it's way deeper than that
04:25just how much more disappointing does that make it for the royals that's like boy you're in a league
04:31where you can be basically in the top five at 500 a 500 record i mean yeah everything was there

04:39the taking potentially i'm sure there's a lot of teams in the american league thinking this this year
04:43that it was more that it's more to taking this year yeah if you look at their record and you
04:50took
04:5010 of those games they lost by one or two runs and flipped them they're right back in it right
04:55they are
04:56in the playoff race if you look at some of the schedule you lost two out of you you lost
05:03the series
05:04to the rockies you lost that still looks bad doesn't it that you should have won when you gave up
05:11those
05:11two games on walk-offs you lost the series to the mets you lost series to the nationals those are
05:19all
05:19those are 12 13 games right there where you win those games which you should have won you're in it
05:26so
05:27you can forgive the slow start in april you can forgive the the may injuries you can forgive
05:35guys like benny and um salvador perez not hitting what they should be hitting all season michael garcia
05:41injury plague year but at the end of the day you had all those one run games and you should
05:47have won
05:48if you would have won those then you're in the playoff mix right now even with a bad record
05:54matter of fact you probably would be have the same record as what the twins have 63 and 66
06:01that's that's where you could have been at yeah if you won 10 of those games it and it's it's
06:07wildly
06:08frustrating because they chose to you know kind of stay in it with waka and lugo but you can't really
06:14do anything to get better it's it's the conundrum of the trade deadline which which i still think was
06:19was a mistake not to to move at least one but again like let's just humor this conversation
06:25because it's been a long time since we've even been able to humor this conversation
06:29the next nine games toronto cleveland detroit all three teams ahead of them in the wild card
06:34well we talked about this in the press box we we had fun with it so everyone's having fun with
06:42it so
06:43if they go eight into the last 10 years of august then that puts them at um 62 and 76

06:54going in september and probably at that point six and a half games back of the wild card at worst
07:05yeah i would say this and to make it easier for everyone that's listening if you believe that
07:12the worlds have any chance of making a postseason run that loss number cannot go below 81 games
07:23it can't go below 81 so you gotta finish at 500 oh you think this year somebody's gonna you think
07:29the third wild card team's gonna have to be at 500 to give you the safest shot to get in
07:34well but right
07:35now i mean minnesota and texas are two games under those are your two teams so i'm i'm accounting for
07:41if one of those teams get hot you know things you know at the end of the year i think

07:47gets you in i think 500 is the is the thing to shoot for okay so if you're eight and

07:55that puts your your two you're 76 so then how many games do they play in in september you'd have

08:02i think 27 28 yeah so so about 121 and 6 22 and 6 that is not impossible that is

08:14right like that is actually not that crazy for a team to go that stretch that kind of a stretch
08:21the problem i have with this exercise and i am i told brady last night brady i don't know that
08:27wichita radio can handle a bigger optimist than me because i'm way too optimistic anyway i choose to
08:33live my life that way i think brady does too which is which is going to be interesting uh but
08:39the problem i have with it is the bullpen ain't getting any better yeah so that's that's where i look
08:47at it and i'm like okay like you're also simultaneously stretching daniel lynch out
08:51to be a starter which again i think is the right way to go but you know you're gonna have
08:56four out
08:56of your five starters by the time lynch gets stretched out that you feel pretty good about
09:01and and then also you're still gonna have to deal with the bullpen and also on top of this
09:07i know that this is baseball and we have the mentality of winning every game right
09:14but take a page from the nfl's playbook why run yourself out the lottery what is the lottery now
09:21in baseball it's the top six i think are i guess inside the lottery yeah boy that can make a

09:29difference couldn't it and if you don't believe that just look at bobby with jr and jack caglione
09:34yeah well actually no actually i think it's everyone that didn't make the playoffs but i'm
09:39saying the the top the good the good picks are in the top six right you saw that the last

09:45years so you can you can be like 13 and make a jump into the lottery with your lottery odds

09:53the top six are the ones that are the actual those are the ones that get switched around a little

10:41so you know going into this tail end of the season where it seems like oh there is still something

10:47maybe pay attention to and root for and jacob i've been talking about this like you know on paper

10:59maybe more so if you were then would you do anything different necessarily at this point is this kind of
11:07buying a little bit of leeway as far as for the fandom to kind of be like well maybe we
11:12can just try
11:13and run this back one more year does that give a little more cushion i guess the q and the
11:18organization
11:18everybody to run it back i think they are in the boat of running it back offensively and i think
11:26that
11:27you if i had a crystal ball and i had to predict what they do this offseason i don't think
11:33they do a lot
11:33of moves offensively i think they're set in stone with what they like on their team and with the
11:40development of jack cadmion and carter jensen same that we've been saying before this season
11:45i think they if they do add offensively it'll be guys like a another lane thomas or something like
11:53that where they could just fill in a few gaps but they got to be all in on pitching they
11:59have to
12:00they have zero pitching no starting pitching is of the utmost importance you need a closer you need a
12:07setup man you need all that right so i don't know they can run it back offensively
12:15they have to run it back offensively because they don't they have to buy pitching yeah they just have
12:21to bullpen pitching is all they hope they have to buy real quick jalen yeah back aglione how's the ankle
12:28he's day-to-day they said he keep they were being cautious with him probably gonna play yesterday but
12:33you know i think he'll be back in the line today okay and the other question is that the yesterday
12:38the uh the city council as expected approved the you know the lease on the new stadium so all systems
12:45go there all systems go is that something that we need to constantly have in mind when we're thinking
12:51about the decisions on the field the royals make is john sherman more committed and likely to
12:58spend that money do whatever it takes to try to win because he's still trying to convince a region
13:04that they're making a good financial decision by building him a new stadium yeah i think you have
13:09to i think you if you're if you're john sherman you have to show hey we're building this shiny new
13:16stadium we're gonna have a team of guys that are gonna be there to win when it opens you just
13:22have to
13:23you can't bring a 56 and 106 lost team into a new stadium that doesn't fly so you gotta spend
