00:17Hello, studios. I'm coming to you from downtown Caracas in the Catedral Parish.
00:21Particularly, we are inside the Sofia building.
00:24This is one of the buildings that has been affected by the twin earthquakes.
00:29And one of the buildings in which the neighbors, those who are living here, have come to the parish to
00:36report some damage.
00:37And what they want was for the inspection crews to come here and reassure them, go over the damage and
00:44see if that is structural or if it's just superficial damage that needs to be repaired.
00:50We are going through this tour with the inspection crew.
00:54As you have seen throughout the day, this is one of the buildings affected.
00:57Right behind me is one of the apartments that had the most damage and the engineers, the fire squad, the
01:06risk experts are right now with the neighbors going through the damage and explaining to them what they are seeing
01:13and what they should expect.
01:14After the entire building is expected, they will be assigned a color code.
01:19Let's recall that this is not the first time there have been volunteer engineers who have seen the building as
01:25well.
01:26Also, there has been the parish receives the reports from the neighbors through the communes with photographs and images.
01:34They have categorized them in terms of priority in order to attend to every situation, but particularly some neighbors from
01:42this building came to where they were gathered in the parish this morning and they asked for a further evaluation.
01:50So they are here in order to go over.
01:52What they've seen so far is that this is not structural damage as they had assessed previously.
01:58They reconfirmed that they have some affections to walls, for example, they have some cracks, but that it's not structural
02:06to the columns, for example, that there is no risk of collapse and that the neighbors should be okay being
02:13here, even though, of course, there are some reparations to take care of some collapsed walls, for example.
02:21This is part of the ongoing work that is coordinated between the parish authorities and the communes that involve and
02:31make up that parish in order to go through structure by structure, bringing the tranquility to the neighbors who, of
02:39course, have been affected by this earthquake and also want the reassurance and the security that they can be here
02:47and that they will be safe staying here.
02:50This is part of the process of recovery that involves everything that has happened since the June 24th earthquake.
