00:01We're listening to Michelle Ramirez, our correspondent in Caracas, Venezuela.
00:10We're looking at the neighbors that are waiting outside the collapsed building,
00:15waiting for the search and rescue operation to be finished to see if the rescue teams and firefighters
00:25can rescue more people alive from beneath the debris.
00:29There's confirmed two people are trapped beneath the debris right now in this building in San Verdardino,
00:36which is in western Caracas, the capital of Venezuela.
00:40There's been confirmed two people alive beneath the debris.
00:50The rescue teams are trying to get to them.
00:52We can see in the images the neighbors of this locality, the people waiting outside the building,
01:01the neighbors and family members of those still trapped beneath the debris.
01:06We have seen a great deal of rescue teams that are working and that have been working all night
01:16and that's still working in the morning to prioritize human lives and rescue operations for the Venezuelan people.
01:24Like the acting president said, that's exactly the priority, the human life, and to rescue as many people as possible.
01:34These are the images of collapsed buildings all over the city of Caracas, the capital city of Venezuela,
01:41after the earthquake that struck the country yesterday at 5 pm local time
01:49and that struck several localities in Venezuela, especially northern cities, northern urban centers like Caracas,
01:55the coastal state of La Guayra, suffered extensive damage.
02:01In the case of the state of La Guayra was declared an emergency zone that we still don't have any
02:08official data
02:09about how extensive is the damage, how many people have suffered, how many casualties there are,
02:15but that is still being assessed by firefighters and rescue crews who are working tirelessly to help all those possible
02:23trapped beneath the debris.
02:25We are looking at the images of several collapsed buildings in the capital city of Venezuela, Caracas in several neighborhoods,
02:33in the center of Caracas and western part of Caracas.
02:38The first, the first, the first ask that the acting president of Sergio Rodriguez was saying,
02:44is to save the lives that are still trapped beneath the rubble.
02:48That's the first priority of the rescue crews and that's what the Venezuelan people are seeing,
02:54that started the rescue operations that started yesterday night and have continued throughout the night.
03:03We have been covering all night, looking at the people, how they have been to the people that are staying
03:14on the streets.
03:16That means apprehensive measure is also a show of respect and a show of support for the people that are
03:22still trapped on their family members.
03:24We are looking at this building that was completely destroyed, completely collapsed in San Maldanido Square.
03:36We are seeing that the teams that have been working tirelessly in this kind of collapsed buildings to try to
03:43rescue as many people as possible.
03:51The authorities that have given shelter to all those families that have lost their homes after the quake.
04:04Right now, the priority is to save human lives.
04:08Like acting president of Venezuela was saying, the main priority is to guarantee human lives
04:14and to put all the efforts into the rescue operations going on by the firefighters and rescue teams and civil
04:22defense teams
04:23to try to get the people from beneath the rubble that are still trapped and to try to save as
04:28many human lives as possible.
04:30As we can see, the earthquakes have, according to official data, that is still not completely updated.
04:39According to official data, the 7.5 magnitude earthquake and 7.2 magnitude earthquake that struck Venezuela yesterday evening.
04:47At 6 p.m. local time have left over 100 dead and almost 1,000 injured across Venezuela,
04:56especially in the northern states of La Guayra, Yaracuy, Miranda, that have been the areas most struck.
05:04We have seen a lot of images, especially around and going around social media.
05:08We have seen a lot of images of collapsed buildings, of a lot of chaos in the streets that have
05:13been going on,
05:14especially in the capital city, Caracas, and the coastal state of La Guayra,
05:19which is where the quake, the urban centers, the quake seemingly struck Horus.
05:27Let's recall that these earthquakes, there were two of them, there were two back-to-back earthquakes
05:33that struck Venezuela just seconds apart, 17.2, 17.5 magnitudes.
05:40La Guayra was declared a disaster soon precisely after this earthquake that was registered in the coastal
05:49place is one of the most affected zones. There's also a tele-sorted team deployed since yesterday evening
05:59in a way that to be able to inform and talk to the people, which is the most humane thing,
06:05to talk to the people and see whatever they need. All the people that are trying to find their families
06:13trapped beneath the rebel.
06:16That's exactly what the local Venezuelan authorities, the Anacta Imprecia del Cerro RÃas, has ordered
06:24to the firefighters and rescue teams to try to get everybody as possible, as many people as possible,
06:32from the beneath the rebel to rescue as many people as possible.
06:37And as soon as possible, all the Venezuelan people, there are still beneath the rebel trapped.
06:44And there's a lot of people that have been reported as disappearing exactly in the state of La Guayra,
06:51where one of the places the earthquake has hit Horus. We have seen images going around in social media
06:57in the state of La Guayra. A lot of partially or completely collapsed buildings around the state,
07:03especially close to the shore. Let's recall the state of La Guayra is a coastal state in northern Venezuela,
07:11that is between the mountains and the shore. So there's been a lot of extensive damage in the state of
07:20La Guayra.
07:20After the severe earthquakes, the severe two back-to-back earthquakes struck Venezuela yesterday evening.
07:26One of those was 7.2 in magnitude, the other one was 7.5 in magnitude.
07:31And that has severely impacted La Guayra.
07:35We have seen so far, according to the latest official data,
07:41that Venezuela's acting president released for the media. There has been 164 confirmed dead and 970 injured so far.
07:50But the official data, we are confident that is still lacking, because there's been so much extensive damage
07:59around these urban centers and around northern Venezuela in general,
08:04that we don't really know so far how many people have been exactly affected,
08:10not to take into account the material damage, which is going to be assessed later on,
08:16because right now the priority is to save life. The extra-official data that rescue crews have told us,
08:25they have told us they have rescued over 15 people from this area, rescue crews,
08:32they have told us from this building that collapsed completely,
08:37from beneath the debris of this building that collapsed completely.
08:43Right now we can see the people outside this building, that there's still,
08:49we can see still the rescue crews, because as I was saying,
08:52there's still people trapped beneath the debris.
08:57This is how the structure ended up being, because the structure collapsed completely,
09:03the building collapsed completely, we cannot go further inside because it's not safe.
09:11We are seeing the rescue operation that is going on.
09:15Right now they are trying to find two people that they know to be trapped beneath the debris
09:22in this collapsed building.
09:26Rescue operations have been ongoing since yesterday.
09:31Over 15 people have been rescued alive since yesterday.
09:36What we are seeing in this residential complex in San Bernardino,
09:43in northwest of Caracas, capital city,
09:49we have been seeing this collapsed building, but there's not only rescue crews,
09:55not only military, not only civil defense.
09:58The people are also joined together with the sole goal of rescuing as many human lives as possible.
10:08We are looking at, right now in Tala Sur, we are showing the images and informing as much as we
10:15can about what is going on.
10:17The neighbors are waiting, the neighbors.
10:19We can see the neighbors and family members of the people still trapped beneath the rubble.
10:26They are still waiting outside.
10:30Because there's a lot of people that were completely trapped beneath the debris.
10:35after this building collapse in, let's recall, San Bernardino,
10:40which is in northwest of Caracas City, the capital of Venezuela.
10:48There's, according to unofficial data provided to our corresponders by the rescue teams,
10:55there's been over 15 people rescued so far from this area, from this building in San Bernardino.
11:07And we are looking at the images right now from Baruta, where rescue teams are still ongoing.
11:16And we can see not only rescue teams and firefighters, we can also see the people of the neighborhood
11:22working towards rescuing as many people as possible because there's still people trapped beneath the debris.
11:29This is one of the areas that was struck hottest by the earthquake.
11:40This is one of the areas that were hit the hottest in Caracas after the severe earthquake that struck Venezuela.
11:54At exactly 7.05 p.m. local time yesterday on June 24th, there were two back-to-back earthquakes,
12:01one 7.2 and one 7.5 feet magnitudes that struck mainly northern Venezuela.
12:07There's many urban centers, many areas in Venezuela that were severely damaged.
12:12We still don't have a total recount.
12:16We'll go back to our correspondent, Michelle, that is going to keep providing us information.
12:23These two earthquakes that have been registered.
12:29Do you know any person that has been rescued from Beniteria?
12:38I was really not in this place at the moment of the collapse.
12:43I came right here because my former partner used to live here.
12:52Well, we've been staying here looking at the authorities waiting for whatever they see, waiting for the rescue missions,
13:00and who they are able to rescue.
13:03They rescued some people.
13:04So far, I think, four people.
13:07One of them died, unfortunately.
13:10And we're still waiting for three more people that are trying to rescue.
13:15Have you gotten to know anything about your former partner?
13:21I have heard rumors about how she was rescued and taken to a hospital,
13:30but I've gone to every hospital in the area, and they don't know anything about her, so I'm still waiting.
13:36So, for our audience, we were just, like I was saying, there was neighbors and family members reaching out to
13:44the buildings that are still,
13:49there's still rescue operations going on to try to find out any information about their family members.
13:58They're just waiting to see if rescue operations, if rescue crews and firefighters can give any information or are able
14:07to rescue more people.
14:10This is part of what we are leaving in Caracas.
14:17Our goal is to inform who these people are and how the rescue operation is going on.
14:25We're looking at the images again from San Bernardino.
14:29And now we are going to move on to El ParaÃso Parish in Caracas, also in Caracas capital city.
14:35One is another one of the collapsed buildings in the area of the capital city, Caracas.
14:42This building collapsed also yesterday after the severe earthquake that struck, the severe earthquakes that struck Caracas at 7 p
14:50.m. local Venezuelan time yesterday evening.
14:53We're looking at the images of El ParaÃso Parish, which is in central Venezuela.
15:01These images are provided by our tele-sur corresponders in the field.
15:08They're working tirelessly and have been working since yesterday evening to inform of whatever is going on around the city
15:17and around the country after the severe earthquakes that struck Venezuela.
15:21Let's recall that yesterday evening, on the 24th of June, on 6.05 p.m. local Venezuelan time, two back
15:30-to-back earthquakes struck the Venezuelan area, exactly in northern Venezuela.
15:36This was a 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude earthquake that struck just seconds apart the Bolivarian nation.
15:46This happened and struck mostly the northern urban centers of Venezuela.
15:53A lot of extensive damage has been reported, mainly in the capital Caracas and in the coastal enclave in northern
15:59Venezuela of La Guayra, where a disaster area has been declared a disaster area because of the extensive damage and
16:11the loss of life and the amount of casualties.
16:14The official data has still not been updated on how many casualties there have been so far.
16:20We have been working with the latest official data, which is 164 confirmed dead and 970 injured.
16:44Let's see now.
