00:24My upbringing influenced my everything, honestly, from being a first-generation Nigerian-American
00:31to the type of music that I listen to. Being born in New York, so hip-hop influenced, being raised
00:37in Ohio,
00:37so exposed to a lot of crossover pop activity and solo and funk. Being in the church, gospel, that type
00:45of energy.
00:46So all that kind of blends. I'm most inspired in the shower.
00:50Man, I be having, bro, hit records in the shower, and I come out and it's gone, bro.
00:56So I be having to, like, rush out the shower quick. Sometimes, like, if I don't even got a towel
01:00on,
01:01I just gotta run. Or I just keep, like, a voice memo going while I'm in the shower.
01:07And, like, you know, if I have a bunch of melodies that come out of there, a whole song comes
01:10out of there.
01:10I would say my music is inviting, refreshing, safe. You'll be able to feel the care and intention
01:21from how I sing to what I say.
01:24For All the Right Reasons was inspired by the concept of just becoming.
01:28I think for All the Right Reasons can vary for different people, different things.
01:33For me personally, I just wanted it to be consistent based off of what I wanted to sound like
01:41and the reason why I wanted to sound like certain things as far as topics that I wanted to touch
01:45on
01:45and as far as walking in the journey of where I'm at or where I'm going to, where I believe
01:52I'm going to.
01:53And that stems from, like, balancing my thought process and who I'm becoming in this industry,
02:00who I'm becoming as a man, as a son, as a brother, uncle, lover.
02:07The touring experience, honestly, has been affirming.
02:10First and foremost, to be in line with someone like Ari Lennox, who's, like, I believe is, like,
02:14a generational voice. To see it night in and night out and also, like, her, like, wanting me to be
02:20on the
02:21road with her, it's been affirming in that sense. But really that, like, exactly who I am,
02:27that I don't have to be anybody else, but exactly who I am, there's space for me on that stage
02:32as
02:32well. And to see how it's been received by the people who align with her has just been like,
02:38okay, I mean, if I didn't know that I was doing the right thing before, like, I definitely know now.
02:43And it inspires me more to want to kind of, like, give them more to attach to.
02:49I just think that people just need to have more fun making music and not over-complicate it.
02:56I think it's important that we keep in mind that the music that we're creating right now is, like,
03:03the music that, like, the younger generation is going to grow and listen to. Just as, like, when we
03:07were younger, we were listening to all the type of people. So just being mindful about that type of
03:11stuff and, like, what type of stuff they're going to use for the soundtrack of their lives.
03:14I'm looking most forward to releasing another project, going on my solo tour, probably getting
03:20a Grammy nom, and buying my parents a career. Yeah. I'm looking forward to that. Thank you in advance.
