00:00And that's part of the issue here with Kawhi Leonard, too.
00:02I mean, Kawhi Leonard, obviously, you got to look at the scenario there
00:07that when they brought him in, Steve Ballmer and those guys,
00:09remember, he was being brought in to contend and compete
00:12with the Los Angeles Lakers at the time, and it just wasn't happening.
00:18I mean, make no mistake about it.
00:20They brought that guy in, and they made that move from Toronto
00:23to bring him into Los Angeles, and they were supposed to be a team
00:27that was going to contend for the West.
00:29Now, they contended a little bit, obviously, when they had Paul George there,
00:32and they were able to try to build that basketball team around.
00:35But Kawhi Leonard, since he left Toronto and he won that NBA championship,
00:39now they're trying to make a move to send him back to Toronto.
00:43But Kawhi Leonard, huge fan.
00:45I covered him when he was with San Diego State
00:48and with Steve Fisher and those guys, and I loved him, man.
00:51I loved him when he was in San Antonio,
00:53but he never really ever became the guy with the Los Angeles Clippers.
00:58Now, you know, load management became something.
01:02The injuries, obviously, were a major issue for him.
01:05As Rick just said, make no mistake about it.
01:08Him being able to recoup some of his career there in Toronto,
01:13maybe he goes back to friendly confines,
01:15and they were able to build that basketball team once again around him.
01:19But make no mistake about it.
01:20And we were talking again about whether...
01:24I was on Wi-Fi.
01:25I'm sorry about that, but it just popped out twice on me.
01:28Got you there, Rick.
01:29I mean, so do you think he can go to Toronto?
01:32That deal obviously on pause right now.
01:34Do you think he can recoup his career in a different environment going to Toronto
01:39if that deal ends up happening?
01:42Who knows?
01:43I mean, basically, it was a failure.
01:46They brought him in.
01:47They didn't get to do what they needed to do.
01:49It's so much more complicated than people think.
01:51One person can make a big difference,
01:54but only if the other people complement him in the way that's needed
01:57in order for them to be able to be successful.
01:59That's why basketball is a team game.
02:01You know, this is not tennis.
02:03You know, I'm watching Wimbledon here.
02:05It's not an individual sport.
02:06It's not golf.
02:07You've got to have teammates to do well.
02:09Even in our case, we didn't have a lot of big-name, established veteran players
02:13and had a couple of rookies, especially Jamal Wilkes.
02:15I know it was Keith Wilkes at the time who was Rookie of the Year,
02:18and Phil Smith, another rookie who helped contribute to us.
02:21But we won as a team.
02:23That's how you win.
02:24You win as a team.
02:25It takes the entire team to be able to win.
02:28And that's why basketball is so interesting,
02:30and that's why I just go crazy when I see all these people making all these moves
02:34thinking that's going to be the difference.
02:35Who knows?
02:36There's so many answers that have to come about it.
02:38The same way with Philadelphia, getting Brown.
02:41I can see why they did that.
02:42They got a guy who's a multi-all-star player, right, Paul George.
02:46But they got a lot of draft picks and stuff, and they figured,
02:48well, maybe we can break that up.
02:49And they did that to build for the future.
02:52Probably Philadelphia is the one that may benefit most by that,
02:55bringing in a guy like him to Philadelphia,
02:57because they came pretty close to doing well last season.
02:59So all of these factors have to be taken into consideration.
03:02And then even if everything is perfect,
03:05then you've got to pray and go to church and light candles and novenas or whatever.
03:08And depending on your religion, to hope that they stay healthy.
