00:00Take a look at this. Summer hail brings out the snow plows in Colorado. Video from Douglas County
00:04where so much hail fell over the weekend that snow plows were needed to help clear the roads.
00:10It happens there. If it's going to happen, it's typically in Colorado. More than three inches of
00:14hail fell during severe storms on Saturday. You might remember a few days earlier,
00:19Tony Laubach was out with almost as impressive video from another event. Severe storms also
00:25bringing more rain and flooding to parts of Indiana over the weekend, as if we needed more
00:29of that. Video out of Indianapolis shows crews reusing boats to rescue residents from floodwaters
00:35on Saturday. River flooding and flash flooding have been a big problem there. Well, we want to take
00:40you into the north central U.S. and we're going to begin with this graphic framed up over the
00:44Midwest here in parts of the northern plains where severe storms will be a continued risk here this
00:51evening and through the night. Flash flooding, hail and damaging winds. Here we are in South Dakota
00:56and Nebraska. Some of this will spill late tonight into parts of western Minnesota and
01:01northwestern Iowa. So look out. Those are the short-term severe weather threats here in the
01:04Midwest. We've also got our hands full down into the Smokies with some severe storms that are gusty
01:09this evening as well. But in the north central, a lot of icons here indicating thunderstorms,
01:13these scattered storms in Watertown, Sioux Falls, even Rapid City. A lot of the action overnight will be
01:18east of North Platte during the overnight hours. Des Moines, Minneapolis, Duluth will see some of this as well.
01:23On the other hand, the Midwest, a little farther east parts of the Ohio Valley and areas from Chicago
01:28and St. Louis eastward, Kansas City as well. You're looking good tonight. Not as warm in Columbus and
01:34Indianapolis behind a recent front that has brought slightly less humid air in and that offers us a
01:39little bit of a break from the heat and again a better chance to cool down at night with lower
01:45humidity. The dew points lower so there's a greater potential to cool down at night. Tuesday, the storms
01:50return to portions of the upper Midwest and eventually into Chicago and parts of northern Michigan as
01:56well. There will be some severe storms associated with this, flash flooding, hail, and damaging winds.
02:00This time it's eastern Nebraska. Any part of Iowa could be in on this, areas north of I-70 in
02:06northern Missouri and eventually a big chunk of western and north central Illinois, mainly west of
02:11Chicago. Madison, Wisconsin facing a risk tomorrow. Let's give you a little more context here with future
02:16radar and clouds. Here come the storms. We're going to press pause Tuesday afternoon, 2 p.m., 3 p.m.
02:22central. Storms popping into parts of Wisconsin. Some showers and storms into Illinois and Missouri,
02:28but it's a little farther west where the best chance for severe will be kind of refocusing into the
02:34evening. Here we are into Iowa, western parts of Wisconsin. Areas near Kansas City as well, facing a
02:40severe weather threat. Into Wednesday, we're going to get into some more widespread thunderstorms then into
02:44parts of Iowa, into central and northern Illinois as well for a time Wednesday evening. It's a wet,
02:50stormy pattern here, and behind this there is some additional trouble. Farther west, drier, but a new
02:56disturbance rotates in I-29 and east. Another round of showers and storms for Thursday. It's a very active
03:01week here. So here's a look at the Wednesday map, showers and storms in the area from St. Louis to
03:07northern Ohio. We don't want to get more rain there, but we will. And then that next disturbance into the
03:12high plains. And you can see that Wednesday afternoon and evening severe risk is heightened
03:17to the west. So South Dakota, western Nebraska, eastern Colorado, some hailers out there again,
03:23maybe not that far from areas around Denver. And then we take you into Thursday. And here again,
03:30kind of a mixed bag. Some storms near the Ohio Valley. The ground is saturated. Flash flooding
03:34will be a concern there. And then that second disturbance brings more storms up into areas
03:38around Minnesota and northern Iowa.
