00:24I'll see you next time.
01:34Which required a little bit of a hike through this beautiful forest.
01:43and up to this I'm not sure you can call it a clearing but it's the canopy is slightly
01:52more open here made so by these beautiful huge plane trees and in the middle of the
02:03biggest one right in the in the crest of the tree is this huge black stork's nest
02:13which I discovered on a hike a few weeks ago just before I left to the UK
02:22I've been away for the last few weeks so I haven't been able to post any videos
02:29and at that time the birds were just sitting there was no other activity they
02:35were just sitting there and I got a couple of shots I was I only had my stills
02:39camera with me so I got a couple of shots of the female sitting on the nest I just
02:48missed the male at that time as he left probably to go hunt or bring some more
02:56nesting material and I thought I'd give it a few weeks to see when the chicks
03:05would be big enough so that I could see them above the lip of the nest so that I
03:09can capture any feeding the parents are not there and I could just see when I
03:15arrived one little head poking its head up above the parapets as it were so I'm
03:23gonna set up the camera here unfortunately I haven't got a better
03:27vantage point than here because it is just jungle completely so there is no
03:33clear path through the trees to view the nest from a higher vantage point so I'll
03:40see what I can do from here if anything hopefully the parents will be back and
03:47wait for me to set up with any luck there are a ton of mosquitoes but hopefully it
03:56should be worth it so let me just set up my camera and so that it's ready to go
04:12okay so I've found an angle through the through the leaves and the branches and
04:21I've got a shot that like I said they're just ducking below the edge of the nest
04:26there's at least two if not three downy chicks and they're absolutely gorgeous
04:39just yawning and waiting for mom and dad to come back with some food so hopefully I
04:53think they are big enough that when they do stand up when mom and dad come back
04:57for a feed but I will be able to get a decent shot of them from here
05:10so beautiful okay I'm gonna hang out here probably for quite a while because
05:18their feeding grounds is all the way down the lake and I'm all the way up the
05:21mountain it's such a privilege to find this nest because the black stalks are
05:32very very shy unlike the white stalks which nest in the villages themselves these
05:38guys like to nest high up in the mountain in the tops of trees and the
05:43white stalks love the telegraph poles around the villages so these guys are
05:48much much more shy and absolutely beautiful okay so I'll wait here and I
06:00shall update you as and when something happens so I shall catch up with you in a bit
06:08so here's what Chicks are up out of the nest, or standing up in the nest i should say
06:16A little bit restless so I've managed to get some wide
06:19angle and close up shots of them
06:24I am having a little bit of a groom I think pulling some of the the down out
06:31I'm hoping that the parents will show up soon because I am being absolutely slaughtered
06:42here by the mosquitoes.
07:06It is only two that I can see, and they've just sat back down and I think they're hungry and
07:19they're picking at scraps from inside the nest, but with any luck the parents will be back
07:44soon with the feed and they'll be able to get some shots on that as well and get out
07:48of here because, like I said, I'm being absolutely eaten alive and the mosquitoes are biting
08:03from outside the trousers and actually getting me.
08:13So I've been shooting as wide as I can go and as narrow as I can go to get some
08:20details
08:21of the down so I can cut between those.
08:27They've both got their heads down in the nest at the moment so I'm guessing they're scavenging
08:34for leftovers inside the nest.
08:44Okay so I'm going to pull back to a wide shot and hopefully I'll be alert enough to the arrival
08:58of one or both of the parents to catch them flying in.
09:06Absolutely stunning.
09:12And I'm going to see if I can get some still shots as well.
09:16Okay so I'll be back with you in a bit hopefully with one of the parents on the nest feeding.
09:23It's been two hours and still nothing from the parents.
09:29The chicks have been up and down and roofing about in the nest for leftovers I'm assuming.
09:40For me it's just been unbearable with the mosquitoes.
09:44Thankfully I had my poncho with me and the scrim so I've covered myself in this to give
09:50me a little bit of respite from the mosquitoes which are just incessant.
10:00And I've got just over two hours left on the battery of the cinema camera so I shall wait
10:10until this battery dies and if your parents don't come back within that time I shall try
10:18and come back in a day or two.
10:27I've got no idea from which direction they'll fly in.
10:30I'm assuming it'll be from behind me from the direction of the lake.
10:38And I've got it set at wide angle to try and capture that.
10:42And I've just kept my eyes on the sky hoping that they might do a flyover before actually
10:53coming in which will give me a chance to get this recording so I can actually catch the
10:58parent flying into the nest.
11:04I'll give it another couple of hours as long as the battery lasts and then call it quits
11:10and then if I don't get anything come back in a day or two.
11:16I'll catch up with you in a little while hopefully.
11:19The parents will be back before this battery dies.
11:23So amazingly one of the parents flew in, didn't go directly to the nest, flew around and then
11:34landed on a branch right above my head, one of the big branches of this amazing plane tree
11:41here.
11:42And I think it suspected my presence even though I'm pretty well concealed under here.
11:54Flew off, disappeared and then ten minutes later flew back in.
12:02Again landed on the branch above my head.
12:04But this time I had pulled this over myself and the camera and better concealed myself even
12:13more.
12:14And then I guess it felt confident enough to fly to the nest.
12:18It goes to show you that they won't give away the position of their nest because of the
12:27risk of predation.
12:28But once it felt confident enough, it flew to the nest, regurgitated everything it had.
12:35The chicks had a really good feed.
12:38And then the parent flew off.
12:41Oh, and it's just started raining.
12:44Okay, which is perfect timing because that means I can pack up with just over 20 minutes
12:51of battery left.
12:53And I shall be back again to see their progress.
12:59But until then, thank you for watching if you've lasted this long.
13:03I hope you've enjoyed it.
13:05And I shall catch up with you again very soon in another video.
13:09So thanks again and bye for now.
13:26Bye.
13:55Bye.
14:22Bye.
14:23Bye.
14:52Bye.
14:57Bye.
15:26Bye.
15:52Bye.
