00:00Mohammed, who is also a practicing attorney, a former Speaker of the House and a former
00:06Member of Parliament, says the manner in which the Commissioner was detained and interrogated
00:12by her subordinates for two days left the country in grave disquiet.
00:18Mrs Harewood-Christopher was arrested on Thursday in connection with the importation of two
00:24sniper rifles for the Strategic Services Agency.
00:28She was questioned at the St Clair Police Station.
00:58The Police Service Commission has since issued a statement on the nomination of an acting
01:19top cop.
01:21The Parliament has announced it will sit to discuss the nomination on Wednesday.
01:25However, Mohammed says what should have been done first is being done last.
01:31He believes the Parliament should have met before on this issue and the Commissioner
01:37should have been sent on administrative leave to address the situation before it became
01:42a public matter.
01:44Mohammed tells us it seems the cart went before the horse.
01:48The whole process of managing the Police Service, it is so complicated and the bureaucracy
01:58that is involved, the confusion that is involved, creates such a situation, those who are familiar
02:06with the operations of the Police Service Commission will not be surprised that something
02:11like this has taken place and on this occasion the victim is the Commissioner of Police of
02:17all people at a juncture in our history when she is actually managing a state of emergency.
02:29He warns that the country is in for a rough ride ahead, with not only the leadership woes
02:35within the TTPS, but the leadership transition in progress at the level of government.
02:41Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley is set to demit political office in the next few months and
02:47Energy Minister Stuart Young will succeed him.
02:50Mohammed believes there is going to be major bungling, according to him, left, right and
02:56centre, because the population holds the view that the Prime Minister designated is settling
03:02in to take charge while the Prime Minister has taken a back seat.
03:07I don't think it will be alarming for me to say that a perception is building up in the
03:14country now where we are feeling that we are leaderless, we are not seeing that cohesion
03:22at the upper level of the cabinet, where the core of the cabinet is holding together and
03:33seeing and leading us through this crisis situation that we are experiencing regarding
03:39the Police Service.
03:41The former chairman of the Police Service Commission is calling for urgent constitutional
03:45reformation at the Police Service Commission.
