00:00While there is no official word on the whereabouts of Police Commissioner Alistair Guevaru,
00:05President of the Police Association, ASP Ishmael Pitt, says,
00:09the police service is not without leadership,
00:12with experienced officers capable of carrying the responsibilities in the interim.
00:18The organization is not void of leadership in that regard.
00:23So I know that in recent times there has been an uproar, if we should call it that,
00:31regarding the absence of the Commissioner.
00:35But we must remember that the Commissioner, as any other police officer, is entitled to leave.
00:41And as such, he must be facilitated when that time arises,
00:45considering all things and the proper protocol is observed.
00:49However, he admits the process of appointing an acting Commissioner is a bureaucratic nightmare.
00:56From an association perspective, a void in practicality,
01:02a void in letting good sense prevail.
01:05And that void can more or less be filled by allowing the Police Service Commission
01:12to make these temporary appointments.
01:14This is the only organization in Toronto Bureau that undergoes this type of convoluted process
01:23in order for a smooth transition between a Commissioner and an acting Commissioner,
01:29notwithstanding the period.
01:30Crazy.
01:31ASP Pitt is calling for government's intervention to address the uncertainty.
01:36And we are calling upon the present government to look at this issue in a real sense
01:42and have it addressed, please, with some alacrity.
01:45He also weighs in on the disappearance of three Glock pistols from the Port of Spain police station,
01:51saying the development raises another serious question for the Police Service.
01:56That is of extreme concern to us.
01:59And for that reason, we support any investigation that we seek to bring whoever is responsible to account.
02:07Pitt warns the association will not condone issues that will compromise the integrity of the TTPS.
