Costa and Stoney came up with cross sport trades to help our teams, who says no?
Transcript
00:00Good morning, 97.1 Jim Costa, Stoney's in this week, Gov and Greg behind the glass.
00:05We have a fun game we're going to play, and you've heard variations of this game.
00:09It's who said no, and there's a trade that you have to consider, but this is who said
00:14no with a twist.
00:15Yes.
00:16This is cross sport edition.
00:18Right.
00:19This is sick.
00:20This is like something that you really have to have about six beers at the bar.
00:23You're thinking about this.
00:24I thought about this about two months ago.
00:27Well, let's do it.
00:27Let's get into it.
00:28Okay.
00:28Okay, so we have to accept the rules.
00:31Hold on.
00:31He's got a little intro he wants us to go through here.
00:36It's coming.
00:50All right.
00:51Ladies and gentlemen, the human beings.
00:52That's the band who plays that song.
00:53Anyway, instead of your normal trade, what if you could actually trade to one city between
01:02sports?
01:04So, for instance, who says no?
01:09Detroit sends Jameson Williams to New Orleans for Trey Murphy.
01:14Trey Murphy, who says no?
01:21I think this trade goes through.
01:23This is a no-brainer.
01:25You got Tesla.
01:26That's right.
01:27Now, New Orleans might say no because they got a lobby, and I think they picked their wide
01:30receiver.
01:31They did.
01:31Jordan Tyson out of ASU.
01:33So, New Orleans might say no, but we would say yes.
01:37They don't care about the Pelicans down there, do they?
01:40Yeah.
01:40I mean, come on.
01:41All right.
01:42Dumar's there.
01:43He'd do it.
01:44Cade gets his running mate, a guy who can get buckets in a big postseason spot, help him
01:49out and round out this offseason.
01:50And while I love what J-Mo brings as a field stretcher to this run game, I mean, you still
01:56have St. Brown, who's a multi-all-pro.
01:59You drafted Tesla, and you got Laporta.
02:01You're going to run the damn ball.
02:02See, Costa hates J-Mo, right?
02:04Unless you don't have to give up Ron Holland.
02:05Always try to run him out of town.
02:07All right.
02:08How about this?
02:09Tarek Skubel to Denver for Patrick Sertain.
02:15Denver says no.
02:16The Rockies don't.
02:17They're not going anywhere.
02:19That's true.
02:21What does Denver want Skubel for three months for?
02:24And they're going to give up the best defensive player?
02:25I'm assuming that you're going to have him for a decent amount of time.
02:29Okay.
02:29So we are supposed to be a Skubel in that ballpark.
02:32I don't know.
02:32I just feel like they say no over losing arguably the best defensive player in football.
02:37I get why the city of Detroit would say yes.
02:40Yeah.
02:40We got good pitching.
02:42Right.
02:42We need someone in that secondary.
02:43It's a hard yes for Detroit.
02:44I think it's a no for Denver.
02:46So we have to answer it from both teams' perspective, right?
02:49Yeah.
02:49Who says no?
02:50It is a no for Denver.
02:51They're a Super Bowl contender.
02:52Yeah.
02:55Dylan Larkin to Dallas, despite what Helena St. James says.
03:02We get back prime Madano.
03:03For Wyatt Langford.
03:08Okay.
03:09Now, look, the Tigers need a right-handed bat.
03:12Langford gets hurt all the time.
03:15Larkin.
03:16Get them out of here anyway.
03:17It's our worst team.
03:18Yeah.
03:18It's a yes for Detroit, and I think it's a yes for Dallas.
03:22You're going to still need a center for the Red Wings.
03:25Wyatt Langford to play center.
03:27Is this a yes for both sides, Tom?
03:29I think it might be.
03:29I'm saying no from this perspective.
03:33I'm cool with the Tigers farm system right now, the way it is, and who's coming up, and
03:38who potentially can play at different positions.
03:41Scott says no.
03:43Yes.
03:43Thank you for calling Scott Harris.
03:44Is that revenge?
03:46Well, it should be a compliment.
03:47He's got a great farm system.
03:48What are you talking about?
03:49Why would that be a slight?
03:50By the way, I picture this as like the cities have to go and vote as a referendum on whether
03:53these deals go through.
03:56All right.
03:58I don't know.
03:59Maybe tough may not be, depending on how you feel about this player.
04:02Asar Thompson.
04:03Love him.
04:05To Minnesota for Byron Buxton.
04:10Who says no?
04:13You put Thompson with, if I'm looking at the Minnesota perspective.
04:17They need him.
04:18With Ant-Man and LaMelo Ball.
04:21Well, they got Rudy Gobert, but yes.
04:23Stifle Tower.
04:24Yeah.
04:24On the perimeter.
04:25Yes, exactly.
04:25So it round out Minnesota.
04:26Why do they care about losing Buxton?
04:28I think they would do this deal.
04:29Well, look, they're ahead of the Tigers.
04:31Why would they want to lose Byron Buxton?
04:34He's been there his whole life, and people love him there.
04:36He's a twin.
04:37Through and through.
04:38We're talking about a potential future defensive player of the year, right?
04:42Thompson.
04:42It's going to be hard with Wemmy.
04:44I think the Pistons are closer to a title than the Tigers, so I would not do this deal for
04:48Detroit.
04:48I wouldn't either, because I think you can get more for Thompson.
04:53It's Buxton's injury history.
04:55He's injured right now.
04:55Yeah.
04:56He's a right-handed bat, though, right?
04:58He's a great player.
04:59Center fielder.
04:59But I'd say no.
05:00No for Detroit.
05:01Okay.
05:02This one probably is a no-brainer.
05:05However, if you sit and think about it, it might be more difficult than I originally
05:09thought.
05:10Dylan Dingler to New York for Carl Anthony Towns.
05:22My first reaction when I made it was, there's no way.
05:26Dingler's like the best catcher in the American League.
05:28But you put a focus Carl Anthony Towns, the way he played in the playoffs this year for
05:34most of them, playing with the Pistons.
05:36Man, you talk about a need.
05:39I really want Cade to get a running mate, someone who spaces the floor, he was the number two
05:45on a title team.
05:45But I actually think New York says no.
05:48They love the Knicks.
05:49They're not trading them.
05:50They're going to try to run for another one.
05:52Yeah, but realistically...
05:53By the way, in this world, is it the Yankees are getting Dingler or the Mets?
05:57I have no idea.
05:59That's a good point.
05:59I think the way it's supposed to be is it's like Nets, Mets, Jets.
06:05So then it's Yankees.
06:06Yes, and the Yankees need a catcher big time.
06:08So then the Yankees get them.
06:09Yes.
06:10I wouldn't do this from Detroit's perspective.
06:14Dingler, defensively and offensively.
06:16There's a shelf life on a catcher trying to chase the title with Cade.
06:19I think I might do it from Detroit's perspective.
06:21I think Dingler and McGonigal, it starts there.
06:24That's how you build this thing.
06:25Melton.
06:26Okay.
06:26Yeah.
06:28Riley Green to Baltimore for Kyle Hamilton.
06:34On the Detroit side.
06:36Yeah.
06:36There's no way the Ravens would do this in a million years.
06:38Yeah, I don't think Baltimore's doing it.
06:40He's underappreciated.
06:41Yeah, I know.
06:42But I get the best safety in football when my two safeties collectively have one knee.
06:46I know.
06:47That's an all-star, though, Riley Green.
06:49I know.
06:49I agree.
06:50All right.
06:52Who says no?
06:53Lucas Raymond.
06:55To Philadelphia for Durantula.
06:59Johan Duran.
07:01Oh, the closer.
07:02The closer for the Phillies.
07:04Wait, who are we giving up?
07:06Lucas Raymond.
07:08Yeah, wings aren't going anywhere.
07:09But is that enough to get a closer?
07:13I don't know.
07:14Yeah, I think so.
07:15On that team, they got Martone.
07:18They got Zegers.
07:19I'm saying no from Philly's perspective.
07:21They're in position here to get into the playoffs, and they need their back-end guy.
07:26Yeah.
07:27Philly's a legit chase in a World Series.
07:29They're not giving up.
07:30They're closer.
07:31Okay.
07:32And I have one more.
07:33I know you have a couple, too.
07:34Yeah, I could throw a few out.
07:35This one's more for S's and G's.
07:38Andrew Kopp.
07:41To Minnesota.
07:42Yes.
07:43For J.J. McCarthy.
07:46Yeah.
07:47Sure.
07:47Okay.
07:48I'd do it.
07:49They'd do it.
07:50Actually, both sides do that trade.
07:51Who says no?
07:53We don't want Kopp in Detroit.
07:54Right.
07:55Not that I want J.J. McCarthy, but what's your feedback?
07:58Why do the Wild want him?
08:00They need a center.
08:02He's not one.
08:04He could be a third center on a playoff team.
08:06He's one of the jerseys.
08:07He could be a third or fourth center on a playoff team.
08:10J.J.
08:11They need another clipboard holder.
08:12Yeah, J.J.'s going to hold a clipboard this season.
08:13Teddy Bridgewater's getting old.
08:14Which team is closer in Minnesota?
08:16They love hockey.
08:16The Wild are 100-point team.
08:18They get some center depth.
08:19I'm not too much in the Wild perspective.
08:20I don't think J.J. McCarthy's anything.
08:22We'll take him as a clipboard holder, too, and we get rid of the salary of Andrew Kopp.
08:25That's a yes.
08:27All right.
08:27I have a couple I wanted to throw out.
08:30And people could text some in.
08:31We could have some fun with this.
08:32You said this.
08:32This is a couple beers at the bar.
08:33Guys talking.
08:34Who says no?
08:36Crossboard edition.
08:38Sam Laporta to Houston for Kevin Durant.
08:42Who says no?
08:43I think Houston would say no because they have a pretty good tight end anyway, don't they?
08:49Not really.
08:51You're right.
08:52It's Dolan Schultz.
08:53Yeah.
08:55They get another weapon for Stroud, who could use it.
08:57A little safety blanket.
08:58They were a playoff team led by their defense.
09:00Laporta would help.
09:01And we get Cade a true number two.
09:04Yes.
09:04A proven finals MVP twice over.
09:06You have two guys who get injured frequently.
09:09Oh, okay.
09:10There's that, too.
09:11I would say, I guess the question is, are the Lions planning to re-sign Laporta or not?
09:19Because if they weren't, I would do this for a chance to put an alleged Robin next to Cade
09:24to see how it would work and you wouldn't be committed super long-term.
09:29Tarek Skubal to the city of New York for Brian Burns.
09:35The Yankees get the lefty to stack that rotation further.
09:39They are hunting the title.
09:41Speaking of hunting the title, the Lions had another big pass rusher in Burns who had 16
09:45and a half sacks last season.
09:47So you're assuming from Detroit's perspective that Skubal's not going to be here after this
09:51year?
09:51I think that's a pretty safe assumption, yeah.
09:52Okay.
09:52All right.
09:53Just for our little...
09:54Just a yes and yes.
09:54Yes.
09:55For our little game.
09:57Yeah.
09:57It's the opposite of a no and no.
09:59How about this one?
10:00Yeah.
10:00Send Jalen Duren to Chicago.
10:03For Alex Bregman.
10:07Wow.
10:09Bregman not having a great year at the plate, but a two-war player.
10:12Postseason proven, as opposed to Duren who isn't, and the Bulls get another big for what
10:17they're building.
10:17The answer to this is, okay, who ages worse?
10:20Yeah.
10:21Which contract?
10:23I probably would say no because Bregman could age worse.
10:26Probably will.
10:27I'll say no as well.
10:28I think they can maybe get more for Duren.
10:31You say no for Detroit.
10:32Yeah.
10:33Okay.
10:33How about this one?
10:36Scooble to the Rangers for Cooper Flagg.
10:41Oh, Scooble.
10:42Under the same circumstances where he's not signed, there's no way Dallas would do that.
10:46I would do it in a second for Detroit.
10:49I would say this is a yes and yes.
10:51Yeah.
10:52I want Cooper Flagg in a heartbeat.
10:53You've got...
10:54Yes.
10:55Arguably, you could become the Spurs of the East in the future.
11:00I think Flagg is going to be a superstar, and I did not think that coming.
11:02I thought he'd be a good player.
11:04I think he's going to be a superstar.
11:05I was surprised how well he did this year.
11:07And I think from the Rangers' perspective, right before the lockout and they're in the
11:11playoffs right now, they have trouble scoring runs.
11:14So, this makes their pitching staff even stronger.
11:17And they, just a few years ago, won a World Series.
11:21They were 84 and 78 of them.
11:23So, Bochy is there.
11:27No, he's not the manager anymore.
11:29Oh, he's not?
11:29No.
11:30No.
11:31But actually, you can package the two we have.
11:33Larkin and Scoobel for Wyatt Langford.
11:37And Cooper Flagg.
11:39So, I did have one that was more convoluted.
11:41Scoobel and Larkin to Philadelphia for Cooper Dejean and Jalen Brown.
11:45Who says no?
11:47Oh, Philly says no.
11:50Scoobel while you're chasing a World Series and you get Larkin as your playoff team?
11:55We get Cooper Dejean and Jalen Brown.
11:58Philly loves Cooper Dejean and Jalen Brown, if they trade him, Sixers are not going to
12:05even compete.
12:06Larkin says no.
12:07They're not on the list.
12:08Okay.
12:08I had a good one, Greg.
12:10Last one.
12:11Jalen Durin to Siberia for a plate of borscht.
12:13Who says no?
12:15The borscht.
12:17Absolutely no from my perspective.
12:19I want nothing to do with beets.
12:21I think beets are absolutely maybe the most disgusting food on the planet.
12:26Oh.
12:26So, you don't like them in Greek salads even?
12:29No.
12:29No.
12:29It's disgusting.
12:31And that is who said it.
12:33And that is who says no.
12:35Cross Sport Edition.
12:37It's 97.1.
12:38Hey!
