02:59And let's begin with the latest updates coming in all countdown
03:03to Chief Minister Vijay's visit to Karoor.
03:05It's happening tomorrow.
03:07Preparations are underway.
03:08In the entire week ahead of that visit, we've seen a lot of politics.
03:12The DMK moved the Supreme Court.
03:14They've written to the CBI all claiming that with Chief Minister Vijay's visit to Karoor
03:18and his plan to in fact hand over government job certificates to some of the victims' families,
03:24this will influence the investigation in the Karoor stamping case.
03:28It could influence the witnesses is what the DMK contends.
03:31Let's get you a detailed report first of what to expect in this visit.
03:34Like I said, it's the first visit to Karoor after the stampede in September.
03:45Nine months after the Karoor stampede claimed 41 lives,
03:50Chief Minister Vijay is set to return to the district to meet families of victims again.
04:01The visit marks Vijay's first trip to Karoor since assuming office as Chief Minister.
04:09After reaching Karoor at 11.30 a.m., Chief Minister will meet the families
04:14and hand over job appointment letters to 32 people who lost their loved ones in the stampede,
04:20with one government job being offered to each affected family.
04:25Earlier, a PIL challenging the government's decision to provide these appointments
04:30was filed before the Madras High Court.
04:32However, the court dismissed the plea clearing the way for the appointments.
04:36Meanwhile, the BJP has criticised Vijay's visit.
04:58Not just the opposition, even Vijay's ally, the CPIM, has questioned the move to provide financial assistance,
05:05saying that with the probes still underway, the Chief Minister should not undertake such an initiative.
05:12Apart from meeting the victims' families,
05:15Chief Minister Vijay will also lay the foundation stone for a 1,700 crore rupees
05:20non-leather footwear manufacturing project,
05:23which is expected to generate around 13,500 jobs in the region.
05:29Only 5,000 people will be allowed to attend the event.
05:33The police have made elaborate security arrangements,
05:37deploying around 100 teams and more than 5,000 personnel across the district.
05:43Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay's first official visit to a district is to Karur,
05:49the place where, tragically, 41 lives were lost in the unfortunate tragedy that happened last year.
05:56The Chief Minister will also be handing out appointment orders to 32 people.
06:01The families of victims who lost their lives in the tragedy.
06:04He'll also be laying the foundation stone of a non-leather footwear factory in Karur district.
06:11With camera person Irfan, Anagar Keshiv reporting for India Today from Chennai.
06:19Now, a couple of months ago, in the run-up to the election, I visited Karur, spoke with some of
06:24the victims' families
06:24to understand who they blamed for the tragedy.
06:27Remember, this was a stampede that took place on September 27th.
06:3141 people died.
06:32And since then, there's been an endless blame game between the TVK and DMK
06:36as to who was responsible for the lapses that led to that incident, that led to that tragedy.
06:40But listen in to what the victims' families had to say.
06:44Who do they blame?
06:45Why do they believe that they lost their loved ones?
06:48Was it Vijay or was it the DMK who was in power then?
06:52Listen in.
06:56I meet the family of two-year-old Dhruv Vishnu, the youngest casualty of the stampede.
07:11His aunt and uncle took him to see Vijay.
07:14They returned and he didn't.
07:28I met him.
07:30We're going back to the station.
07:32We're going back to the station.
07:33We told the station we saw each other that we have taken place on June 24th.
07:35We decided to change our way.
07:37I've been there for a while to go by this.
07:40I am trailing up for a while.
07:42I came in the ice patio.
07:44You've been there for a while now.
07:47Did you go to the hospital?
07:49I know. My father is at home.
07:54My mother was on my own.
07:54My mother was in my own house.
07:57My wife was on my own.
07:57My mother was on my own.
08:00My father was on my own.
08:11So, my mother died and died from the death of my father.
08:19That's what I know.
08:21I know my parents.
08:27My father, my father, and my father...
08:32He's the one who is the one who is the one who is the one who is the one.
08:36and I came to the facelift.
08:41And I took the facelift.
08:44And then I came to the back of the bus.
08:46I had a bus in the beginning.
08:47I went to the vacation and I was having a bus.
08:51And if I had to go to the bus then I could take the bus to the other road.
08:58And I came to my next night.
09:08She lost two grandchildren, as 13-year-old Madhumita died a month later.
09:32She lost the car and she lost the car as her son and her son and her husband-in-law
09:45came again.
09:48She lost the car.
09:49I saw the tentator on the side, and I saw the place where my family came from.
10:00Then I saw the place where my wife died and died.
10:04I saw the place where my wife died.
10:08Then I saw the place where my wife died.
10:12It's not my fault.
10:14They were missing the dogs.
10:17They were looking for the dogs.
10:22They were looking for a second.
10:29They were looking for the dogs.
10:30They were not able to get the dogs.
10:36police and police,
10:37were there.
10:40While the police were in jail,
10:42they were in jail.
10:43there was no two.
10:45There were no two boys.
10:49No one else.
10:51No one was there.
10:53They were no one.
10:53Why the two boys had the same?
10:57The only one box was there.
11:01If you were here,
11:03you could have a huge one.
11:15I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I feel terrible having to do this, but this is the reality of what this family
11:21has faced and so many more.
11:22So I'm going to cut it off.
11:27I'm sorry, I'm sorry.
11:38I'm sorry.
11:40Yeah.
11:44Ai know I smell the norm.
11:59I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry.
12:06You made the woman's voice, I'm sorry, I made theian.
12:15Please, please, please.
12:16Better in the victory, that's all the ball.
12:27It's hard to have this conversation,
12:30but it must be had as a reminder of the permanent pain,
12:34the suffering that one evening caused.
12:45But as I leave, struck by emotion and honestly speechless,
12:50I ask her one last question.
12:53Does she blame Vijay?
13:23She also has this message for Vijay.
13:36In my case, I would like to say,
13:39I would like to ask them to ask them to ask them to ask them.
13:43They would like to ask them to ask them to ask them to ask them.
13:50If they send us a message,
13:52they would like to ask them to ask them to ask them.
13:57So you heard there from some of the victim's families,
14:01who said essentially that we just want Vijay to come and meet us.
14:04That's exactly what's going to happen.
14:05come tomorrow when Chief Minister Vijay will be in Karoor meeting with some of these family members.
14:11Let me open this up. Joining us on this broadcast, we've got Satya Kumar,
14:14national spokesperson of the TVK, and Harish Mohamed, the Abraham political analyst.
14:18Harish, the question that will come up from what we've seen in the last one week
14:23is why is the DNK hell-bent on trying to stop this visit by Chief Minister Vijay to Karoor?
14:30You are a learned journalist, Akshita.
14:32Don't put that kind of statement, which the DNK hasn't had said anywhere across.
14:38Even in the court, when the TVK has submitted during the last hearing,
14:42there was no statement stating that the DNK government by then,
14:47even then ruling government hasn't stopped Mr. Vijay from attending any of his function.
14:52And even now, the DNK functionaries, even if it is in opposition,
14:58they haven't said anything that Vijay shouldn't go to theโฆ
15:01Let me tell you what happened in the Supreme Court a couple of days ago.
15:05Let me tell you what happened in the Supreme Court a couple of days ago.
15:08The Supreme Court made it very, very clear that you cannot use the court for political fora,
15:12saying that this is not a political forum, please take your politics elsewhere.
15:16They also said very, very clearly, how can we stop the executive of a state
15:20from visiting a certain district, from meeting family members
15:23and handing over government job certificates?
15:25What does that tell you, Harish?
15:27And now, I recall a response to that.
15:29And the counter-affidavit by the TVK's government leader has categorically removed the word
15:36that the DNK is trying to stop.
15:38The DNK is trying to stop visiting even by then and now.
15:42That has not been done at any cost of a given point of time.
15:46And even now, the CBI has been moved by the DNK functionaries,
15:51stating that there has been a misconception,
15:53the misinformation which has been spread by Mr. Aadha Varjuna,
15:57particularly stating that the DNK and the police force
16:00by then have made all the arrangements to kill the people in the stampede.
16:04That is a gross allegation which the TVK functionaries like Mr. Aadha Varjuna
16:10have categorically set.
16:11And that is the only point of contention by the DNK in the court.
16:15So, you have to take that as a cognizable offense,
16:18which has been deliberately made by Mr. Aadha Varjuna
16:21to make sure the public gets instigated
16:24and the manipulation are done,
16:26as usual they have did before the election.
16:28No, one second, one second.
16:29Yes, Aadha Varjuna.
16:30I'll come to Aadha Varjuna in a bit.
16:31Harish, I'll come to Aadha Varjuna in just a bit.
16:34Let me complain, let me complain.
16:35So, you don't have to twist the facts.
16:36So, you don't have to twist the facts.
16:38I'm not twisting any facts.
16:39So, then let me answer that.
16:40If you're going to allege that I'm twisting facts,
16:42let me answer it very clearly.
16:43So, please go ahead.
16:44Aadha Varjuna is an issue.
16:45Yes, I agree.
16:46We'll discuss that in just a bit.
16:47But I think we need to separate the two here.
16:48When I ask you a specific question saying
16:50why are there attempts to stop the Chief Minister
16:52from visiting Karoor?
16:53Are you suggesting the DMK is okay
16:55with the Chief Minister visiting Karoor?
16:57Or is there allegation that there will be
16:58influence or witnesses because he visits Karoor?
17:01Yes or no?
17:02Actually, that was not even a point of consideration
17:05even when the DMK was in power
17:07or even now when it is in the leader of opposition
17:10have categorically said that
17:12how can Mr. NK Salen or the DMK functionaries
17:16can stop someone?
17:17Even when during an opposition
17:19they are putting the same claim
17:21when they were in the opposition
17:22when there were being a new party by then.
17:24So, you don't have to make sure
17:26these kind of allegations
17:27which will never ever go down with the people
17:30in a good taste.
17:31Having said that,
17:32whether this Karoor incident should be avoided,
17:35yes, of course, it can be avoided.
17:36It could be avoided
17:37by Mr. Vijay coming to the right spot
17:39Namakkal by the right time
17:41which was being proclaimed to be at 8.45.
17:44But he was started from Chennai itself by 9 o'clock.
17:47So, these kind of deliberate attempts
17:49of seven hours of delay
17:51coming to Karoor
17:52manually
17:53which is being declined at that point of time
17:55which can be avoided.
17:57But Mr. Vijay is the only sole reason
17:59for gathering those kind of crowd
18:01to gather from different parts of the districts
18:05across nearby.
18:06So, having said that,
18:08you don't spin the narrative
18:09or the media narrative.
18:10One second.
18:11There is no media narrative.
18:12I think it's very unfair, Harish,
18:13that you constantly keep trying to target me like this.
18:16Then...
18:16It's very unfair.
18:17I ask you a question.
18:18I ask you a question,
18:19you answer it.
18:19Fair enough.
18:20The same narrative being spread by media
18:22is unnecessary.
18:23One second.
18:24Let me complete.
18:25It is not...
18:25I am not pinpointing you.
18:27It is a wholesome media narrative.
18:29No, no.
18:29I take great offence to that.
18:31I look at it as being pinpointed
18:32of me if you say media narrative.
18:33So, let's not go into that, please.
18:34Let's not go into that.
18:36The questions I asked,
18:37Harish, you can go ahead and answer.
18:38Let me bring in Satya Kumar of the DVK also on this.
18:41Mr. Satya Kumar,
18:42you know,
18:42one of the constant contentions
18:44that the DMK is raised
18:45is the comment made by Mr. Adhavarjuna.
18:47And their contention is
18:48it's simply uncalled for
18:50when an investigation is underway
18:51to point fingers and claim conspiracy.
18:55Akshita,
18:56a couple of days before
18:57they did go to the...
18:59DMK did go to the Supreme Court.
19:01Supreme Court has given
19:02a clear, clear observation.
19:05If there is a political speech
19:08given by any minister,
19:10those things have to be dealt
19:11in a political way.
19:13So, there are two things.
19:15Nothing stops...
19:16The Constitution of India
19:17doesn't stop you from
19:19freedom of speech and expression.
19:21That's the observation of the Supreme Court.
19:23You can go and check
19:24the observation of the Supreme Court.
19:25So, a minister,
19:27sitting minister,
19:27speaking about the former minister
19:29of the other party,
19:31you can't stop.
19:32It's a political debate
19:34or a political statement
19:35that has to be dealt politically.
19:37So, when it comes to
19:38a matter of investigation,
19:39the investigation is overseen
19:41by the former,
19:42that is,
19:43retired justice,
19:44Ajay Rastagi.
19:45And under him,
19:46the investigation is going on.
19:47It is a Supreme Court
19:48monitored investigation.
19:49As a chief minister of the state,
19:51my leader Talabati Vijay
19:52has duty
19:53to meet the victims.
19:55Duty to meet the victims.
19:57And he is trying to give
19:59excretia
19:59and compassionate
20:02fund for them
20:03and also
20:04giving them
20:04a government job.
20:06Accordingly,
20:07he is doing
20:08the duty
20:08of the chief minister
20:09as the head of the state.
20:11So,
20:12no law
20:12in the country stops.
20:14No order of the court
20:16is there
20:17that he should not meet.
20:18And accordingly,
20:19revisiting the
20:20old story
20:21that happened
20:22where it is a state's failure.
20:24And by the way,
20:25CBI has not
20:26arrived anybody,
20:27arrayed anybody
20:28as accused.
20:29CM Vijay
20:30is not accused
20:31in CBI investigation.
20:34Even
20:34in the case
20:35filed by the state
20:37Kaurur police station
20:38before the investigation
20:40was transferred
20:41to CBI
20:42by the Supreme Court.
20:43CM Vijay
20:44is not accused.
20:45So,
20:46even the state
20:47has not accused him.
20:48Then where is the question
20:49of the spokesperson
20:51of DMK
20:51or anybody
20:52who is supporting DMK
20:53can
20:55charge him with the...
20:56The constant charge,
20:57Mr. Satya Kumar,
20:58is that a visit
20:59by the chief minister
21:00right now to Kaurur
21:01will influence the case,
21:02will influence witnesses.
21:05See,
21:05he is
21:06a chief minister
21:08of the state.
21:09You cannot
21:10restrict him
21:10meeting
21:11any
21:13person in the state.
21:14That's what
21:15the Supreme Court
21:15says.
21:16It's an observation
21:17by the Supreme Court.
21:19Accordingly,
21:20the law,
21:21there is no law
21:22which prohibits
21:23or restricts
21:25the chief minister
21:26of the state
21:26to meet
21:27anybody in the state.
21:28I'll give an example.
21:30There are so many,
21:31there are so many cases
21:32filed against the state
21:33by a citizen,
21:34but chief minister
21:35can meet
21:35any citizen.
21:38That means
21:39he's influencing
21:40anybody.
21:41Law doesn't
21:42prohibit.
21:43So,
21:43Harish,
21:44your response
21:44to that,
21:45that as chief minister,
21:46he has the right
21:47to go to Kaurur,
21:47he has the right
21:48to visit.
21:49Who is DMK
21:49to say,
21:50who is Mr.
21:51even Stalin
21:52to say,
21:52that chief minister
21:54should not visit
21:55any of the victims?
21:57Harish.
21:57That too.
21:58That too.
21:59When the victims
21:59are getting benefit,
22:00it is a DM case
22:03conspiracy
22:03to see to that
22:04the victims
22:04don't get the benefit.
22:06Harish,
22:07your response?
22:08Mr. Satya Kumar,
22:09we are not denying
22:10that CM can visit
22:11anyone at any given
22:12point of time.
22:13He is having
22:14a bunch,
22:14lot of criminals
22:15in his cabinet.
22:16So,
22:16he has any kind
22:17of liberty
22:18to go and meet
22:19anyone at that
22:20point of time.
22:21Given state of the fact,
22:22he is saying
22:23that the compassionate
22:23ground should be
22:24given to the 31 people.
22:26There are thousands
22:27and lakhs of people
22:28who have been
22:28gathering to appear
22:29for 26 group
22:31on exams
22:32of the TNPSC.
22:33There have been
22:33a 10 lakhs
22:35application
22:35that have been
22:36filed in Tamil Nadu
22:37TNPSC exams.
22:38And you are giving
22:39a 31.
22:39We are not saying
22:40that or denying
22:41that the excretia
22:42amount should be
22:43given to all the victims.
22:44Yes, of course,
22:45that has to be done.
22:46But coming to a point
22:47where they have come
22:48to see a leader
22:49with an unruly mob
22:51which has been
22:52deliberately gathered
22:53to the crowds
22:54by an intentionally
22:55by seven hours
22:56of delay
22:57by then
22:57Mr. Vijay.
22:59By then,
22:59he was an actor
23:00not as a CM
23:01but only after
23:03deliberately
23:03or unfortunately
23:05or fortunately
23:05he has become
23:06a CM as of now.
23:08But having said
23:08that,
23:09he is misusing
23:10his power
23:10by giving
23:11a 31
23:12TNPSC group
23:13for exams
23:14sorry,
23:14group on exams
23:15postings
23:16to another
23:16victims
23:17who have been
23:18falsely
23:19came to a show
23:20or what you can say.
23:23that kind of
23:23gathering
23:24should have been
23:24avoided.
23:25Again,
23:26again the question
23:26Harish
23:27and yes,
23:27I know that
23:28both sides
23:28are claiming
23:28conspiracy.
23:29One is saying
23:30the DMK
23:30the erst-12
23:31DMK government
23:32is to blame.
23:33You are citing
23:33that Vijay
23:34is to blame
23:35for turning up late.
23:36Ultimately,
23:36the investigation
23:37will determine that.
23:38But as Chief Minister,
23:39surely he has a right
23:40to meet the victim's family.
23:41Surely he has a right
23:42to hand over
23:42that government job certificate.
23:45No one is denying
23:46that Achita.
23:46We are not saying
23:47that Mr. Vijay
23:48shouldn't.
23:49We are no one.
23:50No one is no one
23:51to go ahead
23:51and say the CM
23:52shouldn't attend
23:53any functions.
23:53To suggest
23:53influencer witnesses
23:55then.
23:56Of course,
23:57of course.
23:57Because those
23:58victim families
23:59are going to get
24:00these set of jobs.
24:01And the same
24:02victim family
24:03has to appear
24:03with a CBI inquiry.
24:05So when you go
24:06and deliberately
24:07give an expritia
24:08in the form of
24:09compassionate grounds
24:10or job fair
24:11to all the victim family,
24:13it will bring them
24:14to suppress
24:14their ideology
24:15or suppress
24:16their state
24:17So they shouldn't
24:18get any help
24:18right now.
24:19Your situation
24:20is there should be
24:21no one.
24:21No, no, no, no.
24:22Please don't do that.
24:23So what is the
24:24right time then?
24:25I have to ask
24:25what is the
24:26right time?
24:27Let me complete
24:28because then
24:30DMK government
24:31has given
24:32an announce
24:32of 10 lakh
24:33rupees
24:34and Mr. Vijay
24:34by then as an actor
24:35have given
24:36a 20 lakh
24:37as an expritia
24:38amount.
24:38Having said that,
24:39if there is
24:40any kind of
24:41government jobs
24:42should be given,
24:43it has to be
24:43directed to the
24:44CBI court
24:45where there is
24:46an already
24:46a subjudious matter
24:47pertaining to this.
24:49tragedy has been
24:50there.
24:51So why you have
24:51to go ahead
24:52and push yourself
24:53and at this
24:55same point of
24:55time,
24:56they have made
24:56a deliberate
24:57attempt to
24:57bring back
24:58the ADMK
24:58MLA by
24:59resigning
25:00his MLA
25:00constituency
25:01and bringing
25:03down another
25:05TBK.
25:07It is the
25:08kind of
25:08campaign format.
25:10So it is
25:11nothing new.
25:12Mr. Satya Kumar,
25:13your response?
25:15See, just
25:16because the
25:17spokesperson
25:17or the
25:18DMK
25:19supporter
25:20keeps on
25:20saying that
25:21ADMK people
25:22have been
25:22influenced to
25:23come to
25:23TBK,
25:24I would like
25:24to clarify
25:25because it is
25:26every day
25:27this has become
25:28the speech
25:29of the DMK
25:30and also the
25:31issue of the
25:32DMK.
25:33Answer is
25:33very simple.
25:34We have come
25:35to power
25:35with the
25:36mandate of
25:37the people.
25:37Post-poll,
25:38people are
25:39joined voluntarily.
25:40They have the
25:40right to resign.
25:42Can anybody
25:42deny that
25:43they don't
25:43have the
25:43right to
25:44resign as
25:44an MLA?
25:45They are
25:45resigning as
25:46an MLA.
25:46They are
25:47coming to
25:47our party.
25:48They are
25:48recontesting
25:49the election
25:49in their
25:49capacity.
25:50Wherein my
25:51leader is
25:51going to
25:51campaign for
25:52them.
25:52It is a
25:53normal
25:54election process.
25:55Okay.
25:57Let's stick
25:57to the final
25:58answers.
25:59Why is DMK
25:59keep on
26:00saying
26:00the case
26:02is
26:03happening
26:03tomorrow
26:03in
26:04Karur?
26:05Mr.
26:05Satya Kumar,
26:05the question
26:06also that will
26:06come up is
26:07why did it
26:07take so long
26:08for Vijay to
26:09visit Karur?
26:10Why is this
26:11the first
26:11visit after
26:12the stampede
26:12that took
26:12place in
26:13September?
26:14Exactly.
26:15Akshita,
26:16one thing that
26:17we need to
26:17remember,
26:18my leader
26:18Talabadi
26:19Vijay wanted
26:20to visit
26:20Karur in
26:21the month
26:21of October
26:22November
26:22itself.
26:22We gave
26:23letters to
26:24the police
26:24to visit
26:25Karur and
26:26we also
26:26tried to
26:27get a
26:28hall there
26:29to meet
26:29the victims.
26:30The police
26:31denied the
26:32permission,
26:33citing various
26:33reasons and
26:34the court
26:36also gave
26:36the SOP
26:37only in the
26:37month of
26:37January,
26:38if you
26:38remember.
26:38even today
26:40after becoming
26:40chief minister,
26:41we are
26:42complying with
26:42the SOP
26:43issued by
26:43the Ernst
26:4412 DMK.
26:45We have
26:46not scrapped
26:46it.
26:47In the
26:47January month
26:48they gave
26:48a SOP to
26:49say only
26:495000 people
26:50can attend
26:50the meeting.
26:51We strictly
26:52follow the
26:52executive action.
26:53And even
26:54now,
26:54tomorrow's
26:55meeting also,
26:555000 people
26:56are allowed.
26:57We are
26:57allowed only
26:584999 or
26:59whatever.
26:59We are
27:00allowing inside.
27:01For a
27:01simple reason,
27:01we are
27:02complying with
27:02the law.
27:03At that
27:03point of
27:04time,
27:05DMK
27:05government
27:05declined
27:06permission.
27:07Declined
27:08permission.
27:08State denied
27:09the permission.
27:10So we are
27:10not able to
27:11visit.
27:12Subsequently,
27:12election happened.
27:13Even during
27:13the election,
27:14we did not
27:14get any
27:14kind of
27:15opportunity
27:15to rally.
27:17We formed
27:17the government
27:17now.
27:18Even when
27:19our government
27:19is there,
27:20we are trying
27:20to ensure
27:21that there is
27:21complete
27:21security.
27:22My leader
27:23is not
27:23visiting
27:24Karur.
27:25To see
27:25to that,
27:26he meets
27:26the victims
27:27and addresses
27:28Karur.
27:28Okay.
27:29I am going
27:29to wrap
27:29this up right
27:30now.
27:30I am going
27:30to wrap
27:31this up.
27:31Thank you
27:31gentlemen
27:32for joining
27:32me.
27:33We will
27:33see what
27:33happens
27:33tomorrow.
27:34Karur,
27:35finally,
27:35Chief
27:35Minister
27:36Vijay is
27:36headed there.
27:37Tomorrow morning
27:37we will be
27:38getting you
27:38all the live
27:39updates and
27:40of course,
27:40the spotlight
27:40will be on
27:41the messaging
27:41from Chief
27:42Minister
27:43Vijay to
27:43those victims'
27:44families.
27:44Remember,
27:45the TVK,
27:46Vijay himself
27:47constantly
27:47maintained that
27:48that stampede
27:49was a result
27:50of a conspiracy
27:51by the DMK.
27:52So we will
27:52track that very
27:52closely.
27:53Let's cut
27:53across to
27:53breaking news
27:54coming in.
28:00The Vijay
28:01government has
28:02now challenged
28:03the Madras
28:04High Court
28:04verdict on
28:05reservation for
28:05Muslim converts.
28:07They have
28:07approached the
28:08Supreme Court
28:08challenging the
28:09Madras High
28:09Court order.
28:10Essentially,
28:11the judgment
28:11from the Madras
28:12High Court
28:12held that a
28:13person converting
28:14to Islam is
28:15not entitled to
28:16claim reservation
28:17under the
28:18backward classes
28:18category.
28:19The High Court
28:20had struck down
28:21a 2024
28:21government order
28:23essentially when
28:23DMK was in
28:24power.
28:24a 2024
28:26government order
28:27extending benefits
28:28to those who
28:29have converted
28:30to Islam.
28:31Madras High
28:31Court deemed
28:32it unconstitutional.
28:33And now
28:34you've got the
28:34TVK government
28:35pretty much
28:36following the
28:36line of the
28:37DMK filing a
28:38petition before
28:39the Supreme
28:39Court challenging
28:40the Madras High
28:41Court order.
28:41What they want
28:42is that those
28:42who have converted
28:43to Islam also
28:44get the benefits
28:45of quota be
28:47eligible for
28:48reservation.
28:49Pramod Madhav
28:49is joining us
28:50with more details.
28:51So on this,
28:52Pramod,
28:52explain to us
28:53really what the
28:53government's
28:54stand is,
28:54on this issue.
28:55What did the
28:56Madras High
28:56Court say
28:56earlier?
28:58Afitha,
28:58this is a case
28:59that actually
28:59starts back
29:00in 2015
29:00where a person
29:01who was a
29:02born Hindu
29:02from Tindu
29:04Tutukudi
29:04Ramnathapuram
29:05area,
29:05he got
29:06converted
29:06and in
29:072016 he
29:08had applied
29:08for a BC
29:09certificate which
29:10comes under
29:11the category
29:11of Muslims
29:11in the state
29:12of Tamil Nadu.
29:13Close to
29:13eight sub-sex
29:14are there
29:14and he
29:15apparently
29:15tried to
29:15get a
29:16we've been
29:16told that
29:17he wanted
29:17to get a
29:18BC certificate
29:18from one
29:19of those
29:19categories
29:20and this
29:20case,
29:21apparently
29:21Afitha
29:22refused to
29:22give it
29:22and this
29:23case
29:23actually
29:23went ahead
29:24and came
29:24to the
29:25Madras High
29:25Court.
29:25In 2024
29:26the court
29:27has gone
29:27ahead
29:27and this
29:28particular
29:28verdict was
29:29given
29:30stating that
29:30a person
29:31converting
29:31to Muslim
29:32cannot go
29:33ahead
29:33and get
29:34a BC
29:35certificate.
29:36What
29:36happened
29:36in 2026
29:37June
29:37actually?
29:38So what
29:38happened
29:39is that
29:39amidst
29:39this
29:40a G.O
29:40was passed
29:41in regarding
29:43this particular
29:43manner
29:43which the
29:44court has
29:44gone ahead
29:45and taken
29:45a different
29:46stance
29:46and this
29:46is where
29:47now the
29:47Tamil Nadu
29:48government
29:48has approached
29:49the
29:49Madras High
29:50Court.
29:50Even
29:50before that
29:51former
29:52judges
29:52spoke
29:53on this
29:53matter
29:53claiming
29:54that
29:54the
29:54earlier
29:54Madras
29:55High
29:55Court
29:55apparently
29:56went
29:56outside
29:57the
29:57part
29:58of
29:58the
29:58legality
29:58of
29:58the
29:58case
29:59and
29:59it
30:01looks
30:01like
30:01after
30:02discussions
30:02with
30:03the
30:03legal
30:03team
30:03Tamil Nadu
30:04government
30:04has taken
30:04this
30:05particular
30:05decision
30:05now.
30:06Just stay
30:06with me
30:06Pramut
30:07because we've
30:07got big
30:08breaking
30:08news
30:08coming in.
30:09Let's
30:09cut across
30:10to that.
30:11And this
30:12is big
30:12news
30:13coming in
30:13for Vijay
30:14fans who've
30:15been waiting
30:15for his
30:16last
30:16film
30:17Jananayaghan's
30:18release.
30:18The big
30:19update is
30:19that it's
30:20been now
30:21cleared by
30:22the
30:22censor
30:22board
30:23with an
30:23A
30:23certification
30:24given.
30:26Jananayaghan,
30:27it looks like
30:27the decks
30:27are cleared
30:28for the
30:28film's
30:28release.
30:29It's
30:29faced
30:30seven
30:30months
30:31of
30:31uncertainty
30:32and now
30:32the film
30:33has finally
30:33been cleared
30:34by the
30:34central
30:35board
30:35of
30:35film
30:36certification
30:37the
30:37CBFC
30:37with an
30:38A
30:38certificate
30:39and that
30:40brings an
30:40end to
30:41one of
30:41the most
30:41unprecedented
30:42certification
30:43delays
30:43in recent
30:44Tamil cinema.
30:45Now the
30:46film what we
30:47are hearing
30:47the runtime
30:48stands at
30:48three hours
30:49and three
30:50minutes.
30:50We're still
30:51figuring out
30:51exactly when
30:52the release
30:53is going to
30:54be but
30:55sources telling
30:55us that it's
30:56expected to
30:57hit theatres
30:57in just
30:58about two
30:58weeks from
30:59now on
30:59July 23rd
31:00or 24th
31:01but we will
31:02await official
31:03confirmation on
31:03that.
31:04So Pramod,
31:05you know there's
31:05been so much
31:06buzz over
31:07Jananayaghan and
31:08now finally the
31:09censor board has
31:10given the
31:11go-ahead after
31:11delay after
31:12delay and now
31:13it looks like in
31:14the next two
31:14weeks this film
31:15could release.
31:17It surely is
31:17Akshita.
31:18I know very
31:18interestingly what
31:19happened is that
31:20like this is the
31:21kind of movie that
31:22has the last movie
31:23of the chief
31:23minister Vijay and
31:25not just that you
31:25know even before
31:26this could be
31:27released it actually
31:27was leaked on
31:28the internet and
31:29close to 1.6
31:30crore people have
31:31watched this movie
31:31so far.
31:32But amidst all
31:33this achievements I
31:34mean the movie
31:35crew is very keen
31:36about releasing
31:37this particular movie
31:37claiming that it
31:38is a promise that
31:39was made by the
31:39TVK leader to
31:40their fans that
31:41this will be his
31:42last movie and
31:42quite a lot of
31:43people are still
31:43waiting to watch
31:44the movie in
31:45theatre now the
31:45CBS certificate has
31:46been issued on
31:479th of July and
31:48also the category A
31:50has been provided
31:50to it.
31:51What are the cuts
31:51what are the
31:52details made that
31:53we are still
31:54awaiting and we
31:55believe that the
31:57movie could be
31:57released either on
31:5823rd or 24th
32:00July and you know
32:01recently we also
32:02had a conversation
32:02with a very
32:03important person
32:03where it was
32:04said that this
32:04could happen
32:05anytime soon so
32:06it looks like it's
32:07happening right
32:07now Akshita.
32:08Details that you've
32:09been able to pick
32:10up from your
32:10sources on why
32:11this has been
32:11given an A
32:12certificate because
32:13from what we
32:14could make out
32:14from the trailer
32:15sure it's loaded
32:15with a whole lot
32:16of political
32:17messaging because
32:18this was in fact
32:19said to be you
32:20know Vijay's last
32:21film it was
32:21supposed to
32:22release before in
32:23fact the election
32:24season kicked off
32:25that didn't happen
32:25which is why it
32:26was full of
32:27political messaging.
32:28What's led to
32:29getting an A
32:30certificate do you
32:30know?
32:31It surely is Akshita
32:32in fact like quite a
32:33lot of like violent
32:34scenes and action
32:35scenes are there in
32:35this particular movie
32:36and quite a lot of
32:37you know politically
32:38innovative kind of
32:40dialogues and
32:41comments are also
32:42particularly in that
32:43particular movie so
32:43that's why it's been
32:44said that considering
32:45the violence and
32:46such it would be
32:46given a category A
32:48for this particular
32:49movie but very
32:50interestingly we still
32:50don't know what are
32:51the cuts that we
32:52made we are still
32:53waiting for details
32:54about any kinds of
32:55cuts or anything has
32:55been done to the
32:56movie changes to
32:57any particular names
32:57or something so
32:58we are waiting for
32:59the details as well
33:00Akshita.
33:00We'll wait for those
33:01details unlikely really
33:02that any of the
33:02political messaging
33:04will be cracked down
33:05upon because we're
33:06no longer in
33:06election season there's
33:07no question of any
33:08sort of model code of
33:09conduct but we'll
33:10wait for those
33:11details Vijay fans
33:12for all of you who
33:13have been waiting
33:13for his last film
33:14Jan and I again's
33:15release it looks like
33:16in another two weeks
33:17the film will finally
33:19see the light of day
33:19thanks very much
33:20Pramod for those
33:21details.
33:25Union Minister
33:26Bandi Sanjay's son
33:27Bandi Bagirat has
33:28been granted bail for
33:29a second time the
33:30first time around he
33:32received bail to write
33:33an exam as of life
33:34must go on despite
33:35being booked in a
33:36POXO case now he's
33:37been granted regular
33:38bail with a bond of
33:39one lakh rupees I'll
33:40remind you again the
33:41case here he's the
33:43son of a union
33:43minister he's been
33:44booked in a POXO
33:45case the allegations
33:46against him were of
33:47sexually assaulting a
33:4917 year old girl of
33:51harassing her of
33:52emotionally manipulating
33:53her and now the son
33:55of union minister has
33:56been told don't tamper
33:57with evidence you've
33:58been granted regular
33:59bail I'm not going to
34:01contest the fact that
34:02bail is everyone's
34:03right but just for a
34:04moment think of the
34:05victim and her family
34:07think of what it took
34:07to file a complaint
34:09first against a
34:10minister's son a union
34:11minister's son and now
34:12have that man out on
34:14bail because at the
34:15heart of every POXO
34:16case he's booked under
34:18POXO because a minor
34:19is involved this is
34:21beyond just a legal
34:22battle a child a family
34:24seeking justice and so
34:25everyone's going to be
34:27talking about that
34:27whether the survivor
34:28feels protected heard
34:30whether she's been
34:31treated with dignity
34:31regardless of who the
34:33accused is especially
34:34when the accused is
34:35political connections
34:36access to power
34:37influential responsibility
34:39of the system becomes
34:40even greater to ensure
34:41that justice is not only
34:42done but seen to be
34:44done that for now
34:46doesn't seem to be the
34:47case
34:50there's now officially a
34:52Donald Trump airport
34:53the Palm Beach
34:54International Airport of
34:55Florida has been
34:56officially renamed
34:57President Donald J.
34:59Trump International
34:59Airport and for now
35:02while in fact this
35:03decision has been taken
35:04in the new code for the
35:06airport will be DJT and
35:09that comes into effect in
35:10August the announcement
35:12was actually made from
35:13inside an aircraft that
35:15was just about to land at
35:16the airport and the video
35:18has been shared by Donald
35:20Trump as well
35:42here we go it's official
35:46understand the president
35:49okay let's move on from that
35:51news break and get you a
35:52ground report from
35:53Vyanada in Kerala two days
35:55ago a landslide had struck
35:57in fact a tunnel project
35:58site now the rescue
36:00operations continue the death
36:02toll continues to mount
36:03you've got several multiple
36:05political high-profile visits
36:06to the site but one question
36:07remains was this a man-made
36:10tragedy or was this a natural
36:11disaster like what happened two
36:13years ago in Vyanada at this
36:15point as the rescue operations
36:16continue the top priority of the
36:18government is also to get that
36:20question answered he has a
36:21ground report by Shibimbo
36:27three days since disaster
36:30struck Vyanada once again
36:31forcing residents to relive the
36:35haunting memories of the
36:36catastrophe that devastated the
36:38region in 2024
36:45another trail of grief another
36:48chapter of loss another community
36:51pushed back into its worst nightmare
36:56the death toll is climbing several
36:59people are still missing rescue teams
37:04operations are pressing on through
37:06unstable territory battling harsh
37:08conditions in a desperate race
37:10against time to find survivors
37:15the rescue operations are taking place
37:17by dividing the region into four
37:18zones the first and the third zone is
37:20where the authorities say has a
37:23possibility of you know recovering
37:26more people more bodies is what the
37:28authorities say so the focus will be
37:31on the first and the third zone when
37:32the landslide took place in Churumala
37:33Mundakai a lot of bodies were recovered
37:35from the river so today that focus
37:37will be on the river also but the
37:40first and third zone that will be the
37:41main focus is what the
37:43administration has informed
37:48amid the ongoing operation leader of
37:50the opposition Pinarei Vijayan accompanied
37:52by CPIM State Secretary MV Govindan
37:56visited the affected area to assess the
37:59ground situation and review the rescue and
38:01relief efforts but the story is no longer
38:06just about the rescue mission it is also
38:09about accountability why did this happen
38:12again could it have been prevented
38:18former chief minister Vijayan alleged
38:21serious lapses in preventive measures
38:23claiming that excavated mud and debris
38:26were not cleared despite authorities
38:28having a two-week window to act he argued
38:32that those failures must now come under
38:34serious scrutiny
38:50a day earlier the chief minister had also taken
38:53cognizance of the tragedy and sought a report into the cause of the landslide as the investigation
39:01gather space the spotlight has turned on the construction company executing the tunnel project facing allegations of unscientific mud dumping
39:13for why not this is no longer just another landslide it is a test of
39:18accountability a question of whether warning signs were ignored and whether yet another tragedy could have been prevented
39:26with Shibimol KG from Wayanad
39:29Bureau report India today
39:35Shibimol joins us live right now from Wayanad where the operations continue two days in Shibbi
39:41we're still getting a sense of really the scale of the tragedy what's really leading to these delay in rescue
39:48operations why have they not been able to call it off and find all those missing just yet
39:57well Akshida the main task is the rain it's been raining non-stop
40:01you know compared to yesterday there was slight relief from rainfall today because in the afternoon the sky was clear
40:06the sun started shining a bit so that's when we that's when the rescue operators actually recovered three bodies today
40:12they were not able to recover anybody yesterday any bodies yesterday find any of these missing people yesterday but today
40:18thankfully there was a relief from rainfall and that's why they could recover three bodies today
40:22but there are two more people missing so there is no way they can stop the rescue operations without finding
40:29these people
40:29and it's not like what happened in 2024 they did not really have a data of who were the people
40:35missing yes to some extent they could find a data but the number was huge the magnitude was huge but
40:40most of the bodies recovered were in unidentifiable situation but that's not the case here the government the administration has
40:47a data of the missing people because they knew who were around this time who were at this location when
40:53this incident took place most of them were laborers
40:56so the labor the construction company has a data of the details of these people missing so so in that
41:02case they cannot end this or you know put it as missing cases or anything they will have to find
41:08these people two people missing since they found three people to three bodies today they're hoping that by tomorrow at
41:14least they can finish off the rescue operations and find these two missing people also all of them are natives
41:20not natives of kerala they were all part of the construction work of the tunnel project
41:24that was ongoing here since the last few months okay we'll keep tracking the latest updates thanks for getting asked
41:31that ground report
41:33let's get you a sense also what's the situation been like in the last 24 hours in delhi and in
41:39the entire national capital region because the monsoon has brought with it extremely heavy rainfall the likes of which the
41:45capital isn't used to and so what did that lead to water logging and several other problems largely in the
41:50national capital region while delhi didn't see too much of water
41:54water logging or any of those mishaps it was in fact in the surrounding areas of noida of gurugram in
42:01ghaziabad that you saw maximum impact
42:10delhi
42:11delhi
42:12delhi
42:14gaziabad
42:17noida
42:19gurugram
42:22this is a state of affairs in the national capital region
42:25a fresh spell of downpour led to massive water logging
42:29traffic jams and endless problems for residents in the capital city and its satellite towns
42:37in delhi two trees came crashing down in east of kailash temporarily disrupting traffic
42:44even the elite including our mps were not immune to water logging with flooded streets reported outside their apartments
42:51this particular picture from the national capital from lutean zone exposes the preparation of the agencies civic agencies in the
43:01national capital more so in the lutean zone which comes under the ndmc we are standing right in front of
43:10the apartments where several member of parliaments live and the reason being is that there is no possible way for
43:20this
43:21water to get out and somebody from the ndmc has to come here
43:26literally open the manhole in order to ensure that the water logging is dealt with
43:35the nh24 which connects akshadam to merit witnessed massive water logging
43:40right now from where from where i am reporting is the area which falls between vijainagar and lalko of ghaziabad
43:47and here you can see as to how massive water logging can be witnessed
43:52various vehicles can be seen stuck in traffic
43:57and this is certainly causing havoc on the lives of common man
44:03people are facing a lot of problems due to incessant rain
44:09the bjp government in delhi on the other hand posted pictures of clear roads despite heavy shots
44:14it claims the situation has improved
44:43in gazaabad's vasundra area a section of the road near atal chowk
44:46caved in a car and a bike plunged into the sinkhole other parts of ghaziabad to witness water logging
44:53and traffic crawling at a snail's pace
44:56look at this how these cities are literally in dating submerging the sindrapuram and not just one road
45:02if i could say they're probably a low line area that could be affected
45:05look at this the whole 70 80 feet wide road has gone totally submerged
45:11but moreover it raises the question on the cleaning up the monsoon preparedness
45:15despite knowing that there has been delayed in the monsoon on and off there could be situation of the heavy
45:20rains
45:20look at this all the drainage line looks totally overflowing hardly any preparations done
45:29several sectors in noida were also affected
45:31i'm right now in film city sector 16 noida and you can see the roads are hardly visible
45:37the roads are submerged in water and this shows that the noida authorities were just not prepared for these rains
45:44the drainage system was not made ready for these rains
45:47and people are struggling walking through this contaminated water to reach to reach their destinations
45:56water logging in delhi ncr is not new it happens every year
46:00but the question remains why has the situation not improved
46:03despite repeated assurances from governments and authorities
46:15it's not just delhi in the national capital region
46:18let's give you a sense of what the situation courtesy the monsoon has been across the country
46:26heavy rainfall continues to lash mumbai with severe water logging disrupting western railway cells
46:32the med department has forecast more rainfall accompanied by strong winds over the next few days
46:38so the city is on high alert
46:42heavy monsoon showers battered surat inundating low-lying areas and throwing normal life completely out of gear
46:48there was traffic coming to a complete halt flooding in residential neighborhoods
46:54and commercial hubs disrupted as well
46:58heavy rainfall triggered a major landslide in utarakhand's theory leading to collapse of a house
47:03the landslide occurred at around 4 pm yesterday following which authorities evacuated people who were in roadside stalls
47:10and workers shelters as a precautionary measure
47:16another utarakhand city haridwar is witnessing severe water logging following heavy downpour
47:21so vehicles were seen going through in fact the flooded streets and underpass were seen completely submerged
47:30an over 100 year old clock tower at korikod railway station collapsed
47:35with a large portion of the structure crashing onto the platform
47:38the tower had reportedly been marked for demolition before the incident
47:48and with that roundup i'm wrapping up this edition of super six thanks very much for tuning in on the
