00:00Good evening, you're watching Super 6 here on India Today.
00:03I'm Akshita Nathagopal.
00:04Over the next one hour, over the next 60 minutes,
00:07our full focus is going to be on the climate chaos across the country,
00:12particularly parts of North India.
00:14So our top focus is on what's happening in the national capital.
00:18There's been unprecedented rainfall.
00:20And what that's led to is the Yamuna River crossing the danger mark.
00:25We've seen this happening two years ago in 2023.
00:28It looks like, unfortunately, we're going to see that once again happen in Delhi,
00:33where the Yamuna is essentially going to sweep right through the streets of the national capital,
00:38leading to, of course, thousands of people being affected.
00:41And it means in the heart of the national capital, what we thought we'd never see again,
00:45it's going to repeat all over again,
00:47that you're going to have the Yamuna River waters flowing right through the heart of the national capital.
00:53Are we prepared for this kind of a disaster?
00:55What can we do to avoid it?
00:57What's the latest situation on the ground?
00:59I'm going to be telling you all about that and much more.
01:01We'll also be getting you ground reports from different parts of the country,
01:04worst affected right now by the floods.
01:07Let's begin with the headlines.
01:14Yamuna River crosses danger mark in Delhi.
01:16Water enters several low-lying areas along its banks,
01:19forcing people to move to safer places.
01:22India Today reports from Delhi's flooded zones.
01:23How people are evacuating at this point in time.
01:28Of course, the warnings have been sounded already,
01:31but a lot of people didn't realize that the water level will increase to the extent
01:35that a lot of things will get damaged within their homes.
01:39They're doing what they can right now to save whatever is there inside the house.
01:43Punjab reels under worst flood in decades.
01:50Over 1,300 villages submerged.
01:53Thousands impacted.
01:54Situation also remains grim in Himachal.
01:57Prime Minister Modi slams the abuse against his mother,
02:08gets emotional, calling it an insult to every mother in the country.
02:12Prime Minister Modi demands apology from RGD
02:15and Congress.
02:16NDA calls for Bihar Band on 4th September.
02:18The violence, the violence,
02:23has not given my mother.
02:26This violence, the violence,
02:32has given the millions of mothers and daughters.
02:35Big win for Maratha quota protesters in Mumbai.
02:43Maharashtra government issues resolution giving Khumbi status, OBC status.
02:49Marathas will now get reservations.
02:51Celebrations break up.
02:53No bail for Sharjeele Imam and Omar Khalid
03:04in connection with the 2020 Delhi rights case.
03:06Prosecution strongly opposes claims case
03:08not one of spontaneous rights,
03:10but a planned conspiracy with a sinister motive.
03:18First made-in-India chips unveiled by Prime Minister Modi.
03:22Modi pitchers, big Atmanirbar,
03:24semiconductor and critical minerals.
03:41The situation in the national capital in Delhi,
03:44extremely concerning right now.
03:47The Yamuna has been confirmed,
03:48has now crossed the danger mark.
03:50So it's flowing above the danger mark.
03:52What does that mean?
03:53Once it crosses the danger mark,
03:54essentially it then starts spreading out
03:56beyond the river banks.
03:58We've seen this happen in Delhi before, in 2023.
04:01And so it's not just low-lying areas,
04:04but several other parts of Delhi
04:05that could be submerged in the next 24 hours.
04:09Right now it's the low-lying areas near the river banks
04:11that are completely underwater.
04:14In these areas also,
04:15you are seeing essentially
04:17a lot of evacuations being done.
04:20There's been a surge in the water level
04:22because of the fact that water is being released by Haryana.
04:25We'll get your ground reports also
04:36on what the situation currently is
04:38in different parts of Delhi.
04:40The usual locations,
04:41which is those very close to,
04:43in fact,
04:43the Yamuna River,
04:45are all submerged.
04:47You see that on your screens,
04:48these people have been forced to move out.
04:50Some of them have moved to their rooftops.
04:52But it is even in parts of central Delhi,
04:54old Delhi,
04:55that you will see water flowing in
04:57in the next 24 hours
04:58unless something is done on an emergency basis.
05:00But looking at the kind of rainfall
05:02that we've seen,
05:03the water being released by other states
05:04because they have no choice,
05:06it looks inevitable
05:07that we're going to see scenes of 2023
05:09play out once again in Delhi.
05:11I want to take this across to Milin Sharma.
05:15She's joining us live
05:16with the latest updates.
05:18Milin, you're currently in Gurugram.
05:20What's the situation there?
05:22Well, Akshita's situation
05:28has become stable since yesterday.
05:30We witnessed how there were videos
05:32of rivers that were flowing
05:34on the roads in Gurugram.
05:36The district administration
05:38has been on its toes since then
05:40because there was a lot of backlash
05:41that was coming from the people.
05:44You saw that 20-kilometer-long video
05:46of the jam that emanated
05:48right from Gurugram up till Delhi,
05:50which is why the district administration
05:52has said today that all hands are on deck.
05:55But the question is,
05:56why isn't this done
05:57before the monsoon season begins?
05:59Because there have been recurrent warnings
06:02that have been given
06:02by the Indian Meteorological Department
06:04that says that orange alert
06:06will be issued for the entire state of Haryana.
06:10That includes Gurugram as well,
06:12which, by the way,
06:13gives the state the highest number
06:15and highest amount of tax
06:17where civic amenities
06:18like proper roads,
06:20drainage doesn't exist.
06:22A very viral video yesterday
06:23came from just outside
06:25the 100 crore apartments
06:26where there was water everywhere.
06:29And this is why
06:31the district administration
06:32wakes up at the last moment
06:33to contain the problem.
06:35There have been very incremental rains
06:37today in Gurugram,
06:39but of course,
06:40the IMD maintains
06:41that very heavy to moderate rainfall
06:44could continue this evening.
06:45We're going to track the latest updates
06:47that come in from Gurugram as well.
06:49From what you're telling us,
06:50Milind, right now,
06:50the situation under control there.
06:52But in Delhi,
06:53with the Yamuna flowing above,
06:55the danger mark,
06:56situation very concerning.
06:57Let's get you some of those images
06:59of what currently Delhi
07:01and other parts of the north
07:02look like.
07:03There's a red alert issued
07:04by the med department,
07:05so no respite expected right now.
07:07These are images
07:08from Himachal's Chamba district
07:10where landslides have blocked
07:11several roads,
07:12including the Chamba-Pattankot highway.
07:14And streets have turned
07:16into muddy streams
07:17as you see there on your screens.
07:22Relentless rains continue
07:23in Uttarakhand.
07:24Both the Alatnanda
07:25and Mandakini rivers
07:26are flowing above the danger mark
07:28in Rudra-Prayag.
07:29Waters reached homes
07:30along the river bank.
07:36A tragic incident there.
07:38A leopard drowned
07:39in the swollen Kosi river
07:40between Almora and Ramnagar
07:41in Uttarakhand.
07:42The flash floods
07:43triggered by heavy rains,
07:44not just endangering
07:45human settlements,
07:46but also taking a toll
07:47on wildlife.
07:48After nearly 3 lakh
07:53of water was released
07:54from the Hadnikund Barrage,
07:56flood threat is looming
07:57larger over parts of NCR,
08:00which is Noida,
08:01as well as Delhi.
08:06A heavy downpour
08:07has led to flood-like conditions
08:09in Rajasthan too.
08:11Several areas of waterlogue,
08:12normal life being badly hit.
08:14Almost every state
08:15in the north right now
08:16is struggling.
08:22We've never seen
08:23this kind of a situation
08:24in parts of North India.
08:26Usually the monsoon
08:27brings a huge amount
08:29of rainfall, yes.
08:30But what we've been seeing
08:31with every single day,
08:32the amount of rainfall
08:33only increasing,
08:34non-stop red alerts,
08:36flooding,
08:37rivers all swollen,
08:38it's led to a situation
08:40in Delhi today
08:40where you're going
08:41to be seeing parts
08:42of the national capital
08:43completely underwater,
08:45where Delhi will look
08:45almost like an island.
08:47It's happened before,
08:48two years ago in 2023,
08:50and I remember reporting there
08:51from the streets of Delhi.
08:53Most of Delhi
08:54was unrecognisable
08:55at that point.
08:56Today, just a few hours ago,
08:58the Yamunas crossed
08:59the danger mark.
09:00So there's a serious threat
09:01of severe flooding.
09:03The government is saying
09:04that we are keeping
09:05a close track
09:05on the current situation.
09:07They've urged all those
09:08living in low-lying areas
09:09to move to be evacuated
09:12into relief centres.
09:13But if this continues,
09:15you're going to see
09:16the situation even perhaps
09:17a lot worse than 2023.
09:19Heavy rains have brought
09:37Delhi NCR to its knees.
09:41Streets turned into streams.
09:42And chaos unfolded
09:47in the national capital,
09:48exposing the city's
09:49crippled infrastructure.
09:55Low-lying areas of the capital
09:57completely submerged.
09:59There were long traffic jams.
10:01in some areas,
10:04residents were forced
10:05to take shelter on roofs.
10:10Authorities used boats
10:11to shift residents
10:12in affected areas
10:13to safe locations.
10:14people are evacuating
10:16and evacuating
10:17It's right behind me.
10:18This is how people
10:19are evacuating
10:20at this point in time.
10:21Of course,
10:22the warnings have been
10:23sounded already,
10:24but a lot of people
10:25didn't realize
10:26that the water level
10:27will increase
10:28to the extent
10:28that a lot of things
10:29will get damaged
10:30within their homes.
10:32They're doing
10:32what they can right now
10:33to save whatever
10:35is there inside the house.
10:36It looks like,
10:37you know,
10:37some dry eatables
10:38that they've managed
10:39to kind of salvage.
10:41This is what the people
10:42will pretty much
10:44be surviving on.
11:09Adding to the city walls,
11:11the gates of the
11:11Hathnikund barrage
11:12in Haryana are open,
11:14pumping out water
11:15downstream,
11:16raising the water level
11:17of Yamuna in Delhi.
11:20The river has now
11:21crossed the danger mark.
11:26Guru Gran
11:27witnessed a similar situation.
11:30Several roads
11:30were waterlogged,
11:34vehicles broke down
11:35and scores of people
11:36left stranded.
11:37The Jaipur Highway
11:40on Monday night
11:41saw bumper-to-bumper
11:42traffic jam
11:43that stretched
11:43for kilometres.
11:48With the Met Department
11:49predicting more rains,
11:50all corporate
11:51and private institutions
11:52were advised
11:53to ask their employees
11:54to work from home
11:55on Tuesday.
11:56The picture
11:59which we are bringing
12:01you right now
12:01is a bigger question
12:03for the authorities
12:03in Golgaaf.
12:05This is an underpass
12:06at Rajiv Chowk,
12:07which is essentially
12:08the pathway
12:09for the pedestrians,
12:10those who want
12:11to take a walking route
12:14to different parts
12:15from Rajiv Chowk.
12:16You could read there
12:17the passes towards
12:19Naharpur Rupa,
12:20the mini secretariat,
12:22as well as
12:23Anaj, Mandi.
12:24And what we see
12:26is that
12:26it's not just
12:27knee-deep
12:28or west-deep water.
12:30The water level
12:31has reached
12:31to the extent
12:32that it is almost
12:33going to touch
12:33the upper roof
12:35of this subway.
12:39For Delhi NCR,
12:40the monsoon spell
12:41is far from over.
12:43With more showers
12:44predicted through the week,
12:45the rain fury
12:46is set to bring
12:47more distress.
12:49With Sneha Mordani
12:50and Amit Bhardwaj,
12:51Bureau Report,
12:52India Today.
12:56Let me bring in
12:57Shreya Chatterjee.
12:58She's joining us
12:59live from Delhi
13:00from one of the
13:01affected areas
13:02where already
13:02there's been flooding
13:03because these are
13:04low-lying areas
13:05along the Yamuna banks.
13:06Shreya,
13:07what's the current
13:07situation with the Yamuna
13:09flowing above the danger mark?
13:10Are we expecting
13:11that, you know,
13:12the water will then
13:13enter into the city
13:14as well by tomorrow?
13:15Well, the reason
13:20that is being expected
13:22is largely because
13:24Akhita, post 8pm,
13:26we will largely be
13:26seeing the low-lying
13:27areas across the Yamuna
13:28overflowing because
13:30the danger mark
13:31has already been crossed.
13:32We've been showing
13:32the pictures from
13:33Yamuna Bazaar
13:34since morning.
13:35So today, we tried
13:36to come near the
13:36Kalindi Kunj area
13:37of Yamuna.
13:39The floodplains
13:40are yet to get affected
13:41but Yamuna has
13:41completely been flowing
13:43above the danger mark
13:44here as well.
13:45but post 8pm
13:47is when we will
13:47likely be seeing
13:48the picture getting worse
13:50is what experts
13:51are suggesting.
13:52Yamuna Bazaar
13:53has been completely
13:53inundated
13:54as we've been showing
13:55since morning.
13:56People have been evacuated
13:57with Hatini Kund Baraj
13:59releasing more
13:59water continuously.
14:01It's most likely
14:02that we will see
14:03the national capitals
14:05get affected tomorrow
14:06but preparations
14:06have been well
14:07put in place
14:08but with the rain gods
14:09not really cooperating
14:10we probably are looking
14:12towards a flood-like
14:13situation
14:14in the national capital.
14:15Has there been
14:16any sort of alert
14:17given Shreya
14:18by the authorities
14:19asking those
14:20not just in low-lying
14:21areas but parts
14:22of old Delhi etc
14:23that got flooded
14:23in 2023
14:24to also move out?
14:25Yes, Akshita there has
14:30been alerts especially
14:31across the Lohapul
14:32the ISBT area
14:34the monastery region
14:35all those areas
14:37near Majanuka Teela
14:38which was inundated
14:38during 2023
14:39there has been alert.
14:41The good thing
14:41this time is
14:42that there are paths
14:43from the Rajgat area
14:44towards the ring road
14:45where cemented
14:47preparations have been
14:48made so that
14:49the gushing water
14:50does not overflow
14:50to the roads.
14:51whether that will
14:52stay in place
14:53or not
14:53is something
14:53that we'll only
14:54get to understand
14:55once tonight crosses
14:57because the actual effect
14:58of the water
14:59that has been released
15:00from the Hathinikund Baraj
15:01will be visible
15:02in all these low-lying
15:03plain areas
15:04that I'm showing you
15:05right now
15:05post-evening
15:06but Yamuna Bazaar
15:07because it's one of the
15:08most low-lying areas
15:09we're already seeing
15:10the situation grim there.
15:11Okay Shreya
15:12thanks for joining us
15:13with those details.
15:14Let's hope
15:15that the Yamuna water levels
15:17come down overnight
15:18highly unlikely
15:19because as we speak
15:20even right now
15:21it continues to pour down
15:23in the national capital
15:24and it's not just the rain
15:25it's the fact that
15:26in other states
15:27across the national capital
15:29surrounding the national capital
15:30also
15:31there has been
15:31unprecedented rainfall
15:33so they're forced
15:34to release water
15:35release Yamuna water
15:36so that these states
15:37don't get completely
15:37inundated either.
15:39It's a catch-22
15:40situation of sorts
15:41because if you don't
15:42release the water
15:42Haryana for example
15:44will get completely
15:44flooded out
15:45and they're already
15:46grappling with
15:47a terrible situation.
15:48Let's get you now
15:49a ground report
15:50filed by Sneha Mordani
15:51she's been out
15:52for the last
15:53many hours
15:55tracking the situation
15:56what you see
15:57on your screens
15:57is also a sense
15:58of really
15:59how we've been seeing
16:00the Yamuna water levels
16:02moving up and down
16:03in the last 24 hours
16:05it's been rising up steadily
16:07which is why now
16:08it's reached that limit
16:09of 205.7%
16:11that's the exact point
16:12205.8 meters
16:14is when they say
16:16that look
16:16it's crossed the danger mark
16:17so it's gone about that
16:18it's about 206 now
16:20very very worrying this
16:21here's a ground report
16:22by Sneha
16:23just to give our viewers
16:30an idea
16:30about how things are
16:31right now
16:32we are in Delhi's
16:32civil lines area
16:33and this is how
16:35the river Yamuna
16:36looks like
16:36at this point in time
16:37this is roughly
16:39around 205
16:40to 206 meters
16:42is what the height
16:43of the river is
16:44of course
16:44it's completely swollen up
16:45but what the authorities
16:47here are telling us
16:48is that the level
16:49of the water
16:49is going to even
16:50go up
16:51even further
16:52up to 250 meters
16:54is the anticipation
16:55and that's the reason
16:56why on this boat
16:57and there are several
16:58boats like this
16:58the rescue work
17:00is going on
17:01the boats like this
17:02in fact
17:03take rounds
17:04this kind
17:05and this is the kind
17:06of a boat
17:06that I am in
17:07also at this
17:08point in time
17:09they check
17:10if anybody
17:11is in trouble
17:12in this area
17:12all of these
17:14food items
17:14is what they
17:15managed to save
17:15this is in fact
17:19from a shop
17:19that they managed
17:20to save
17:21well the warnings
17:30were sounded off
17:30but perhaps
17:31they didn't have
17:32an idea
17:32that the water
17:34level will go up
17:34to this extent
17:35this is what
17:36they managed
17:37to save
17:37from this shop
17:38this is in fact
17:46something that
17:47happens year
17:48after year
17:48but not to that
17:49extent
17:49they've been
17:50telling me
17:50that since
17:512023
17:52things had
17:54gotten really
17:55bad
17:55and it's this
17:56year that they
17:57see the water
17:57levels in the
17:59river have really
18:00gone up
18:00and is expected
18:02to go up
18:02even further
18:03and that really
18:04is the worry
18:05if you have
18:06a rooftop
18:06then you are
18:07alive and at
18:08least you are
18:09dry like these
18:10people most
18:10people living
18:11right below
18:12here don't even
18:13have that luxury
18:14people are in fact
18:28people are in fact
18:40setting up their
18:42temporary structures
18:43you know they've
18:44managed to salvage
18:45whatever they can
18:46some say that
18:47they have
18:47no food to eat
18:49and also
18:50they've managed
18:51to just you know
18:52come up to the
18:53rooftops
18:53and as you can
18:54see in these
18:54pictures if at
18:55all you can
18:55I hope you do
18:56there's a woman
18:57in fact who's
18:58trying to cook
18:59that is how
19:00people are
19:00managing
19:01but those
19:02people who are
19:02living in these
19:03low-lying areas
19:04are really
19:05suffering
19:05they rather just
19:06you know
19:06stick on
19:07stay put on
19:08the rooftops
19:08of their homes
19:09so that they
19:10can just manage
19:11to you know
19:11wait for the
19:12water levels
19:12to recede
19:12but that isn't
19:13even an
19:13expectation
19:14it's going to
19:15be a bigger
19:16challenge and a
19:16bigger problem
19:17and I can foresee
19:18that coming
19:18and I got into
19:19this water
19:20and let me tell
19:21you that my
19:21legs are itching
19:22already
19:23you know
19:23this is water
19:24which is from
19:24the sewage
19:25it's mixed
19:26with the river
19:26water
19:26there are toilets
19:27here
19:27there are residents
19:28so urine
19:29stool
19:29everything in
19:30this water
19:31imagine the
19:31extent of disease
19:33that is waiting
19:35you know
19:36to affect these
19:37people once the
19:38water level
19:38recedes in this
19:39area
19:40this time around
19:41the water levels
19:41are extremely high
19:42forcing people
19:43out of their
19:44homes
19:44and they really
19:46have no other
19:47solution but to
19:48wait it out
19:48but also I'd like
19:49to tell in fact
19:50our viewers that
19:51there is another
19:51problem attached
19:52to this
19:52this always used
19:54to be the natural
19:54flow of water
19:55you know it
19:56wasn't like the
19:56water is
19:57the river is
19:58you know creating
19:59problems
19:59it's us humans
20:00who are creating
20:01these problems
20:02because this was
20:03always where the
20:03river flowed
20:04there's been
20:05construction in
20:06these areas
20:06these residential
20:07colonies have
20:09come up
20:09there are roads
20:10that have been
20:10set up
20:11right behind
20:12where we are
20:12there are
20:13structures that
20:14have been
20:14constructed
20:15hence the river
20:17I would say
20:17is just reclaiming
20:18its place
20:19water with
20:20Simran and
20:21Sanjay
20:21in New
20:22Delhi's
20:22Neha Mordani
20:23for India
20:23today
20:23so we're
20:26going to
20:26continue
20:26tracking
20:27very closely
20:27the situation
20:28in the
20:29natural capital
20:30because like
20:30I said
20:30it's not
20:31looking good
20:31the next
20:3224 hours
20:33you're going
20:33to see it
20:34going from
20:35bad to
20:35worse
20:36that it's
20:36not just
20:36the low
20:36lying areas
20:37but several
20:38other parts
20:38of the
20:39capital
20:39where the
20:40water
20:40could spread
20:41because it's
20:41expected that
20:42the water
20:42levels will
20:43go up
20:44in the next
20:44few hours
20:45particularly
20:45through the
20:46night
20:46there's
20:47also a
20:47forecast
20:47from the
20:47med
20:48department
20:48of
20:48continued
20:49rainfall
20:49tonight
20:50in Delhi
20:51in Noida
20:52as well
20:52as in
20:53Gurugram
20:53but this
20:54has been
20:55essentially
20:55the story
20:56that we've
20:56been tracking
20:56across
20:57North India
20:58you talk
20:58about
20:58Gujarat
20:59Rajasthan
21:00Himachar Pradesh
21:01Jammu
21:01it's pretty
21:02much
21:03unprecedented
21:04rainfall
21:04that's
21:05led to
21:05flooding
21:06that's
21:07led to
21:07flash floods
21:08landslides
21:09what not
21:10there's been
21:10so much
21:11of damage
21:12to life
21:12to property
21:13as a result
21:14of nature's
21:15fury
21:16let's get
21:16you a
21:17look at
21:17what's
21:18the
21:18situation
21:18in different
21:18parts
21:19of the
21:20country
21:20from the
21:40hills to
21:41villages
21:41and cities
21:43in the
21:43plains
21:43nature's
21:46fury
21:47has sent
21:47North India
21:48rain
21:49last month
21:59Uttarakhand
22:00was ravaged
22:01by flash floods
22:02landslides
22:03and cloud
22:04bursts
22:04now the same
22:07nightmare is haunting
22:08Himachal Pradesh
22:09in Manali
22:11incessant rains
22:12have wreaked
22:13havoc
22:13a historic
22:16bridge
22:16connecting the
22:17old and new
22:18parts of the
22:18town
22:19has collapsed
22:20forest
22:21it was a dry
22:21passage
22:22it was a dry
22:22passage till yesterday
22:23but now since the rain
22:24last night and the
22:25incessant rain since
22:26morning this entire area
22:28is almost washed out
22:29and the water and you can
22:31judge from the speed of
22:32the water that what kind
22:33of speed this water has
22:34attained and there is no
22:35end to the rain there's no
22:36end to the rain it's raining
22:38very very heavily it's told to
22:39be the orange or the red
22:40alert here
22:41in Kullu a building under
22:47construction was damaged due to
22:49landslides
22:50this is the very same stretch
22:56that bore the brunt of
22:58landslides in 2023
23:00meanwhile Punjab is
23:11drowning in distress
23:16twelve districts are now
23:17under red alert
23:18as rivers
23:19chinob
23:20sutlej
23:22and ravi
23:23swell beyond
23:24danger marks
23:27rescue operations are underway
23:30hundreds have been evacuated
23:32and shifted to relief camps
23:34Punjab chief minister
23:35bhagwanthman
23:36visited the flood affected
23:40here we are in a boat at
23:41firospur's
23:42nahala
23:43lavera village
23:44where the depth of this water
23:45is either on the pedicrop
23:48at 3 to 4 feet
23:49or at 15 to 20 feet
23:51and you can imagine that this
23:52complete stretch
23:54the sutlej has been widened up
23:56to 8 kilometers
23:56people are waiting
23:58that when the boat will come
23:59so when there are water bottles
24:01or the ration will be distributed
24:03to them
24:03drones are being used
24:08in ajnala sector
24:09to send water
24:10milk powder
24:11and dry ration
24:13in flooded areas
24:14this year monsoon
24:17is rewriting
24:18record books
24:19Punjab has seen
24:21its worst strains
24:22in nearly 40 years
24:23the med department
24:25has warned of
24:25more rains
24:26in september
24:27with aseem bassi
24:28and aman bharadwaj
24:30bureau report
24:31india today
24:32okay i want to bring in
24:35aman bharadwaj
24:36on this broadcast
24:37he's reporting
24:37live from firospur
24:38which is one of the worst
24:40affected districts
24:41in punjab right now
24:42aman what's the current situation
24:44i can see the rescue
24:45and relief efforts
24:46continue behind you
24:47exactly and you see
24:53here the sutlej breach
24:56breach this habibke village
24:58where there are 15 villages
25:00and firospur city
25:01is just 5 kilometers
25:03so army has
25:04from taken charge here
25:06to build a dam here
25:08to stop this breach
25:10to stop sutlej
25:11entering the villages
25:12and firospur city
25:13and also 50 persons
25:15of the army
25:16local administration
25:18are in coordination
25:19we'll cut across to
25:20colonel satyajit gojse
25:22who's been looking after
25:24the engineering work here
25:26and himanshu tanwar
25:27who is the commanding officer
25:28sir what is the situation here
25:30from how many days
25:31you've been working
25:31and what actually happened here
25:33so because of the
25:35incessant rains
25:36which were occurring
25:36since last about
25:37three to four days
25:38and before that also
25:39the level of the water
25:40in river satelaj
25:41has increased considerably
25:42and this coupled
25:44with the strong
25:45flowing currents
25:45has led to formations
25:46of deep whirlpools
25:49in the river
25:49and these whirlpools
25:50were covering the
25:51banks of the berm
25:53considerably
25:53now if this would have
25:54continued further
25:55then this would have
25:56damaged the burn
25:57ultimately
25:58the present location
25:59where we are
26:00is called as
26:00left margin bun
26:02this is an important
26:03structure because
26:04it stops the
26:05egressive water
26:05into the
26:06Ferozpur city
26:07so the protection
26:08of this bun
26:08is extremely critical
26:09so when this
26:10imminent danger
26:11was sensed
26:11based on the
26:12recreation
26:12from the civil
26:13administration
26:13a team of
26:14golden arrow
26:15engineers
26:15had come on ground
26:16they assessed
26:17the situation
26:18they carried out
26:19complete analysis
26:20of the situation
26:20at hand
26:21how many bags
26:22are there
26:23sandbags
26:23which have been
26:24placed
26:24so the water
26:25has been
26:26stopped
26:26from breaching
26:27so as of now
26:28this is a work
26:29in progress
26:29so till date
26:30approximately 45,000
26:31sandbags
26:32have been filled
26:32and out of
26:33which they have
26:34made around
26:34350 crates
26:35which have been
26:36lowered along
26:36the berm
26:37of the river
26:37so this has
26:38led to partial
26:39stabilisation
26:39of the ground
26:40but we need
26:41to work more
26:42at least for next
26:424 to 5 days
26:43so that this gets
26:44completely stabilised
26:45how many villages
26:46are there
26:46other side
26:47as you mentioned
26:485 km
26:49is the Ferozpur city
26:49as well
26:50so this was
26:50the only breach
26:51here
26:51or other
26:52other part
26:53was also there
26:53so this left
26:55margin band
26:56is running
26:56all along
26:56but because
26:57of the whirlpools
26:58which were
26:58forming here
26:58the imminent
26:59danger
26:59was in this
27:00stretch
27:00so therefore
27:01we have
27:01contained this
27:02otherwise
27:02in rest
27:03of the places
27:03since the
27:04flow of the
27:04water
27:04was laminar
27:05so there
27:05was no such
27:06threat
27:06to the band
27:07proper
27:07how many
27:11persons are here
27:11and what sort
27:12of coordination
27:13are you getting
27:13here
27:14what is the
27:14response
27:15from the locals
27:15and what is
27:17the current
27:17situation
27:18according to you
27:18see
27:18golden arrow
27:19division has
27:20provided 11 columns
27:22and out of those
27:2311 columns
27:23four columns

27:29as well as
27:30of villagers
27:31so far these

27:39and they have

27:40facilities
27:40and 8 to

27:42and other
27:44than that
27:44there are
27:447 more

27:45who are
27:46directly
27:46involved
27:47in
27:47controlling

27:50due to

29:51Chief Minister Bhavad Maham there interacting with those who have been affected by the floods.
29:57There are so many, almost lakhs, who have been displaced as a result of the floods in parts of Punjab.
30:04And the Chief Minister getting visibly emotional, wiping off tears as he was meeting with a woman who broke down while speaking about how she's lost everything in these floods.
30:14Just imagine for so many people what they called home for years, for decades together, washed out now.
30:21They have nowhere to go back. They're stuck in these relief centres. All their belongings gone forever.
30:27And just imagine what they're currently going through.
30:30In such a situation, of course, the need of the hours for the administration also to step up and help.
30:36But let's play out for you what Arvind K. Jawaharl, former Delhi Chief Minister, has to say on the situation in Punjab and how the ARP is helping.
30:42I want to talk about the need.
30:47Punjab is not only a country's country.

33:02Okay, so that's Arvind Kejriwal there appealing for everyone to come forward and help the people of Punjab.
33:16I also want to get a quick update from Aseem Bassi on the situation in Himachal Pradesh.
33:21The last many weeks we've been seeing landslides, flash floods and parts of Himachal.
33:27Many would say it's our own doing what's happening right now
33:31because of the kind of unscientific development planning that's taken place in these areas.
33:35We're paying the price essentially for all of that unplanned development.
33:39Aseem Bassi is live from Manali.
33:40Aseem, you've been filing some truly heartbreaking reports of the kind of damage being reported in these hill towns.
33:47Take it away, what's the situation currently?
33:49We understand that there's a prediction for more rainfall in the coming days as well.
33:53Yes, I think this is rain which is creating havoc on Himachal Pradesh.
34:00And now also today it was a red alert.
34:02Since 5 a.m. it is raining quite heavily.
34:04Now also you can see in the frame that it is raining quite heavily.
34:08In Manali, devastation has gone up.
34:10The water levels have gone up.
34:12The bridges are overflowing.
34:14The losses to the vehicles are done.
34:15The highways are done.
34:16And you can see in the visuals that how a thick cloud envelop is around Manali bringing more and more threat to the situation.
34:25Because this is Manali which faced lots and lots of troubles and lots and lots of infrastructure losses.
34:31NH3 was washed away from many, many, many places.
34:34And today we went to old Manali where you saw a bridge was submerged totally.
34:39A vehicle was stuck there and could not be brought out.
34:42There have been many instances.
34:43In Chamba also it was flash flood in Sultanpur.
34:46In Kulu it's been raining incessantly.
34:48So in Manali also.
34:49Since 5 a.m. it was a red alert today and it is still raining, continuous rain and thick clouds hovering over.
34:56Although there are predictions that this weather may clear up.
34:59But you know as the monsoon has been aggressive, the weather has been very, very unpredictable.
35:04So we hope that the rain stops.
35:06Then only the restoration work and the rehabilitation work will pick up pace.
35:10Asim, can you run us through the worst affected districts right now?
35:13You know Himachal is one of those states that's also seen a very high debt toll unfortunately.
35:19You know it's not just been one incident.
35:20It's been two, three incidents that have taken place in the span of the last many weeks.
35:25Do we have an exact figure right now from the government on the debt toll, on the casualty count?
35:30Well, I think the worst test has been Chamba as far as the casualty is concerned.
35:37In the recent days, Chamba after 9th of August till date has lost around 16 people.
35:43They were pilgrims going to Mani Mahesh.
35:45They were on a Mani Mahesh Jatra.
35:46But the administration swung into action because they got stuck into rains and flash floods.
35:5116 casualties were there.
35:52But Manali, as far as the Kullu is concerned, be it Kullu as well as Manali, it has faced the maximum infrastructure loss.
36:01The bridges have gone.
36:01The Kullu-Manali Highway, which is a four-lane, has broken from seven to eight places.
36:08And 100 to 150 meters of roads have been swept away.
36:11That is the kind of damage.
36:12The bridges have been lost.
36:14The foot bridges, the cafes, the shops, the houses, they all have broken down.
36:18And today also, Chamba saw basically flash flood in Sultanpuri region and flash floods taking place.
36:26Chief Minister Sukhvinder Sukhu told in Vidhan Sabhad that Himachal Pradesh is declared as the disaster-affected state.
36:34And he himself claimed that around 3,500 crores, more than 3,500 crores losses have been faced by Himachal Pradesh till now.
36:42But yes, the casualty count over the entire mountain season has been very, very high in Himachal Pradesh.
36:47All right, we'll closely track the situation.
36:50Stay safe out there, Asim, as we closely track what's happening in Manali and so many other parts of Himachal that have been badly impacted across the north.
36:59And I'd say largely it is, in fact, in the hills that we've seen the maximum impact right now of this kind of monsoon.
37:07You know, we've seen heavy, heavy rainfall, cloudbursts, flash floods, landslides taking place.
37:12All of it also resulting, unfortunately, in a huge number of casualties.
37:17So right now, you look at Rajasthan, you look at Gujarat, Punjab, Delhi and the national capital region in all, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, every single one of these states, unfortunately, is reeling under a massive flood crisis.
37:31Which is why, even in Delhi right now, you're seeing the Yamuna water levels at this level because of the fact that even in the other states there's been no respite.
37:40So the water levels continue to go up. There's no option but to open up these dams.
37:45And so the natural flow of the river, it's going ahead and reclaiming all that's been taken up along the riverbanks where we've ensured development.
37:53And for which, of course, there are people who spent crores of rupees for that perfect riverbank view.
37:59They're now paying the price, unfortunately, for our planners not having thought this through.
38:03So for unplanned development, this is the price we're paying.
38:07And we're just hoping that in the next 24 hours in Delhi, we don't see the national capital essentially being swallowed up by the Yamuna.
38:15Let's talk also about Punjab.
38:17We've been getting your ground reports there of thousands being displaced, of homes being destroyed.
38:22There's also been a wave of compassion, fortunately.
38:25Prominent voices from the entertainment industry are now stepping up in meaningful ways to help Punjab rebuild and recover.
38:32Many of these artists are from Punjab.
38:34They're headed back to their hometowns, trying to help in every way they can.
38:43Farmlands submerged, homes destroyed and thousands of families displaced.
38:50Punjab is facing one of its worst flood crisis in recent times.
38:55With roads, power lines and other basic facilities badly hit, the state is struggling to protect both people and animals.
39:07But amid this devastation, a silver lining shines through.
39:13Prominent voices from the entertainment industry are stepping up in meaningful ways to help Punjab rebuild and recover.
39:21Diljeet Dosanj has stepped in to adopt 10 flood-hit villages via Sanj Foundation, five each in Gurdaspur and Amritsar.
39:31The foundation is working closely with local NGOs and district administrations to coordinate immediate relief and long-term rehabilitation.
39:39Singer Amy Virk has stepped up to support victims of the recent devastating floods in Punjab in Punjab.
39:45In a heartfelt humanitarian gesture, Amy and his team have announced the adoption of 200 homes to provide shelter and long-term support for families who have lost everything in the floods.
39:57Meanwhile, Satinder Sartaj has taken his foundation to the frontline, working relentlessly in the Ferozpur and Fazilka districts.

40:15Sharing visuals from the ground on social media, the singer highlighted the severity
40:43of the situation and urged everyone to contribute to relief efforts.
41:12Punjabi pop star Guru Randhawa, in a show of solidarity, launched a relief fund for flood
41:17victims, encouraging his followers to contribute generously.
41:21On the other hand, Karan Aujla has also donated a motorboat to Initiators of Change.
41:39A Ludhiana-based NGO to ensure volunteers can reach the flood-affected areas and provide
41:46timely relief.
41:47Now, the wave of compassion hasn't stopped with Punjab's own voices.
42:02Bollywood, too, has joined the chorus of support.
42:13So, Nusood, who hails from Punjab, shared a heartfelt video on X, highlighting the ground situation
42:20in Firozpur, Taran Taran and Fazilka.
42:22To be continued, please share those with you.
42:37Sanjay the two expressed his solidarity with those affected
43:03while Shilpa Shetty Kundra shared her concern and shared a note on social media.
43:09Preeti Zinta also highlighted the widespread destruction in North India
43:13due to floods and landslides and prayed for everyone's safety.
43:17Amid the devastation caused by floods following the torrential rains this month,
43:23Punjab has once again shown its indomitable spirit.
43:27Communities across the state have mobilized relief on an unprecedented scale
43:32where administrative response faltered, voluntary efforts have surged forward.
43:51With Pranjali Sethi Entertainment Bureau, India Today
43:55Let's hope that the situation eases.
44:05As of now, not looking good because the Med Department has already issued a heavy rain alert
44:09for many of these states, including the national capital.
44:13If you live in any of these states, stay safe out there.
44:16You can trust us here on India Today to get you all the latest updates.
44:19Our reporters have spread themselves across the worst affected districts
44:23in their respective states to get you a sense of what the current situation is.

44:31But that's all I have time for in this edition of Super 6.
