00:01All right, Essence Fest, y'all having a good time or y'all having a great time?
00:06Okay, that was really, really weak. I know we competing with Target over there,
00:09but are y'all having a good time or y'all having a great time?
00:12All right, awesome. Well, listen, I'm excited because this is probably one of my favorite
00:17things to do right here at Essence Fest. It is allowing you to get up close and personal
00:22with some of the founders who are creating beautiful pieces as entrepreneurs. Now, I said
00:27it before, but I'm going to say it again. How many of y'all watched QVC or HSM when you
00:32were younger? Maybe you still watch it now. Okay, yes. You like to see the products. You
00:36like to smell the products, but we're having our own QVC right here, right now. It's called
00:41a Founders Showcase, and we sprinkled a little melanin on it. We sprinkled a little Black Excellence
00:45on it. Is that okay with y'all? So we're going to meet some fabulous founders and learn more
00:49about their products. So this is a chance for you to really meet the innovative brands that
00:54we feature right here at the We Love Us stage. The founders that you're going to see also
00:59have booths. So if you like what you see, you can go and you can shop with them as well.
01:04So they also have served as mentors and founders to the new voices, entrepreneurs leading us
01:10right here at Essence Festival. You're going to hear their journeys. You're going to discover
01:14what inspired them to create their businesses. But more importantly, y'all going to see their
01:18product. All right. Y'all ready to get started? All right. Up first, we have Miss Alexander
01:24Alexandria Ali from F&W Style. Can we give her a round of applause?
01:31Now joining Miss Alexandria Ali is the one and only beautiful and amazing Bianca Tatum
01:40of Cree and Company. So as she is making her way over to her beautiful pieces, we're going to start
01:45with you, Miss Alexandria. Tell us a little bit about what is F&W Style and introduce us to your
01:51beautiful pieces. All right. F&W Style is a luxury leather handbag brand. We're based in Atlanta
01:58and we designed well-crafted, beautiful pieces that'll take the woman from day to night. You've
02:05probably spotted some of our bags on soap operas like Beyond the Gates, which we collaborated with
02:11them for the Chelsea Cat bag. Okay. Well, listen, we don't want to just see the bags. We want you
02:17to see
02:17you work the bags. So I want you to take one that you like, and we have created our very
02:22own. I'm
02:22going to step behind you for a second. We Love Us Stage runway right here because some of y'all
02:27are
02:28like, how do I actually wear these bags? And she's going to show you exactly how. So you said these
02:32bags can go from day to night, correct? Yes. Okay. Well, show us how to wear this bag during the
02:36day.
02:36Okay. Well, are you guys going to hype me up? Okay. All right. So we're just going to do a
02:43runway,
02:44you know, daytime. You just have it there. Then you can put it on your shoulders or on your arm
02:50and
02:50you're good to go. Okay. Yes. And it has a crossbody strap. Okay. Crossbody. How many y'all like
02:57crossbodies? Yes. You get crossbody and a handbag. All right. We're going to come over here to you,
03:01Ms. Bianca, because I don't know about you, but I love me a good earring. So tell us a little
03:05bit about
03:06your company, Cree & Company, and tell us besides earrings, what else do you offer the lovely ladies
03:12in the room? Hi, everybody. My name is Bianca. I'm the founder of Cree & Company. Cree & Company is
03:18a
03:18women's handmade jewelry brand. So I make everything that you see here and on my ears. I've been making
03:23jewelry since I was about 13, and now it's something that I do full time. If you've watched
03:28Sisters on BET or Bel Air on Peacock, you've probably seen them. Ho, ho, ho. We ain't going to push
03:34past that.
03:34Did you hear what she just said? Okay. Tell me again. If we watch what show, where have we seen
03:39this? Sisters on BET, on Andy. Andy's the main character. And then Aunt Viv on Bel Air. That's
03:46a big deal. Yes. Let's give it up. Let's give it up. All right. So talk us through some of
03:50your
03:50pieces. So these are some of my best sellers. These are the frame earrings. Although they're large,
03:56they're super lightweight. We also have polymer clay earrings at the bottom. They have a leather look,
04:01but they are polymer clay. And then we have the wooden earrings here with the feathers. These are
04:06super lightweight. And all of these, except for the frames, are all clip-on convertible. So we offer
04:13earrings, bracelets, necklaces. We have a few socks. We have a little bit of everything.
04:19She said these are clip-on and clip-on convertible. So that means if you have a pierced ear, you
04:25can wear
04:25them. But if your ears are not pierced, you can still look fabulous. That's what I heard. Okay.
04:29I love it. All right. I'm going to come back over to you, Miss Alexandria. I want to bring this
04:34one
04:34up for a second, because I know that sometimes when you go to places like this or ballgames that
04:39you have to have a clear bag. Can you talk us through this clear bag? And what makes this sexier
04:44than the average clear bag that you have to have with getting into stadiums and special events?
04:49Yeah. We wanted to make a clear bag that was more elevated. So you see it's made with genuine Italian
04:55leather. It has the metal feet on the bottom of it. And even the plastic PVC that we use
05:02is beautiful and made to last. It has our chain straps so you can wear a crossbody. We like
05:08a crossbody. Or you can wear it and shorten it as well. So this was really made for the woman
05:14that's going to the sporting event. She's going to the conferences, but she wanted it to be more
05:19elevated. And that's who we designed it for. And we have it in so many colors, red, blue, green,
05:25all the colors. So come see us at our booth. And tell us, what's your booth number?
05:315404 and 5405. 5404 and 55?
05:375405. It's a double booth.
05:385405. She got a double. She big time. She said, I got a double booth. Okay.
05:42Oh, we have a client right there that you must have just shopped with us because that's our bag
05:46right there. Yes. Okay, client. All right. Well, listen, client. We like to do things a little bit
05:51fun. All right, client. Let's see what you got, client. Pull it out the bag, client. Let's see
05:54what you got. Let's see what you got.
06:00Oh, yes.
06:02All right. Come on now. Give us a little walk right here. Show us the wares.
06:05Show up. Yeah. Let hubby hold the bags. All right. She just turned to a model. All right.
06:10Let's go. All right. Come on. Yeah, girl. You better give it to us. You better give it to us
06:15at Essence Fest. I love it. Yes, ma'am. It looks good on you. It does. All right. Thank you
06:23so much.
06:23All right. So I'm going to come back over to you, Bianca. So people are probably looking at these
06:28earrings and being like, those are nice, but maybe it's something a little bit different. Where can I
06:33wear these earrings to? Give us some ideas on how we can pair this up and what can I wear
06:38with these earrings? So you can dress these earrings up or down. They are meant to elevate
06:43your look. So if you decide to wear jeans and a t-shirt and you want to put on a
06:48nice pair
06:48of heels, these earrings will elevate your outfit. Some of the styles that I have that aren't shown
06:54here, you can wear them with gowns. I've had a few clients buy them to wear with gowns. So if
06:59you
06:59want to go to the movies on a date or if you just want to go to the grocery store,
07:03I usually wear
07:04these and we have them in all colors. Something like this in black is really simple. So you can
07:09dress up or down with them. All right. And one more time as we're about to wrap it up. Bianca,
07:14if they want to shop with Korean Company, what booth can they go to? So we are located right to
07:18the right, right here beside the Coca-Cola stage. And we are 100% online. We ship all
07:26over the world. It's www.koreancompany.com. And all of our socials are at Korean Company. And we're
07:32right beside the Coca-Cola stage. Corner booth and it's all orange. You can't miss it. All right.
07:38Orange. Can't miss it. Miss Alexandria, really quickly for the people, if they want to shop
07:42your handbags, where can they go? Booth number one more time. Okay. Booth 5405 and 5404. And we're
07:50over here to the right. It's the colorful booth. You guys got to come check it out. And then also
07:56online at FW Style. All right. Can we give these ladies a round of applause? All right. Well, stick
08:03around for just a second. If you loved what you just saw, we have a couple more amazing founders
08:08who are going to showcase their products. So stick around. We're going to set them up
08:12and be back to you shortly. Thank you so much, ladies.
08:17The ladies is pimps tonight. Living inside a dream.
08:24All right, everyone. Everyone's still having a good time at Essence Fest 2026. Now, I'm just
08:30curious. By a show of hands, how many of y'all, it's your very first time here? First timers?
08:35Okay. There's a couple. So y'all, y'all veterans. Y'all be coming here every year. All right. That's
08:39good to know. All right. We're going to keep this conversation going as we're highlighting
08:43amazing founders and business owners who are doing great things. So this is about us featuring
08:49innovative brands, but more importantly, allowing you to see and hear what they do on an everyday
08:55basis and how they are growing. So up first, we have Miss Brittany Adams, Focus, and Frame Eyewear
09:02is her company. Let's go ahead and give Brittany a round of applause.
09:08Now, I'm just curious. How many of you know, as black women, it is important to take care
09:14of your health? Okay. Well, we're going to have a conversation about that as well, because
09:18what we want to do right here at the We Love Us stage is give you some amazing products,
09:23but we will also want you to get healthy as black women so you can continue to live and thrive.
09:29So joining us to talk about that is Chantille Thomas of Black Women's Health Imperative.
09:37All right. So as we get started, I'm going to first start with the one and only Miss Brittany
09:43Adams, because we saw her before, but we're seeing her again. I love seeing you on this stage.
09:48I love being here. All right. So tell us a little bit about what is Focus and Frame Eyewear?
09:53So Focus and Frame Eyewear, we do prescription and non-prescription glasses online. So you find
09:59the products you love, you upload your prescription right there, and we mail it to your house. We'll
10:04mail it everywhere, including Canada. Well, the United States and Canada, we've sold to about 40
10:09states already. And so we really, our thing is we want to help you see and feel seen. So our
10:15glasses
10:16are going to really reflect that with different colors, styles, and textures.
10:19She says, seen and be seen. I love that. I love that. You need to put that on a t
10:24-shirt
10:24if you haven't already done that already.
10:26It's on the magnets that's passing around.
10:29I love it. Okay. So I'm going to go ahead and come over to you, Miss Chantille. Now there's
10:33a lot going on right now. I'm sorry.
10:35Okay. There's a lot going on right now. Tell us why that black women should be concerned
10:40about their health right now.
10:42Sure. Black women should be concerned about their health, considering the gaps, barriers that
10:47are in care presenting due to social determinants of health. We're always underserved and overlooked.
10:52We're always the last thought. And unfortunately, sometimes we tend to put ourselves last on our
10:57list. We got superwoman syndrome. We'll save everyone in the world before we save ourselves.
11:03I'll get to her later. I'll get to myself later, but I can get to the kids, the husband, whoever
11:08first.
11:09So let's stick with you for a second. Give us a quick tip, right? Because we hear it all the
11:13time.
11:14Put yourself first. Don't wait till your cup is empty. Give us one quick tip that we
11:18can do to put ourselves first as black women.
11:22Schedule yourself on your calendar and pay yourself first. You are a bill. You are a bill.
11:28And that bill can go towards self-care and self-maintenance, which there's a difference,
11:32right? Self-care goes beyond just getting your nails done. Self-care is actually making time
11:37to see your practitioners, making sure that you actually like your providers and that you're
11:41receiving quality care. Oh, I love that. That was a whole masterclass in about two seconds,
11:46right? She know her stuff. Okay. I'm going to come over to you really quickly. Let's talk
11:50about your reasoning or your inspiration around focus and frame eyewear. Why eyewear? Why glasses?
11:57You know, it actually goes hand in hand with Chantel was saying. It's about, so glasses, why
12:03they are very fashionable and it helps to show up. It's really also a medical device. It's something
12:08that you need to see. And I find that as women of color and people of color, we deprioritize
12:14these things like glasses because there's so many things always happening. And so that goes into how
12:21we just do everything about our business, including our pricing. Being about half the price of your
12:26optometrist's office, it allows you to continue to get your glasses, to continue to take care of
12:31yourself as you should. And again, that just goes into us really, truly wanting our customers to feel
12:36seen. Well, listen, we want to see what you got to offer right here. So walk us through a couple
12:41of these glasses that are on display right here. Okay. So this is one of my favorites. This is the
12:46Harlow frame. So this frame is for, it's unisex men and women. It comes in about six different colors.
12:53It's that bold shape. It'll come out just how you want it. Listen, can we get a little modeling?
12:58Yes. Come on. Yes. So we really love that style. It comes in red, black, brown, green, because we
13:07believe you should be able to look how you feel, whether you're going to brunch or you're going to
13:11church or you're hanging out with your kiddos. So this is my, one of my favorite frames. And then, ah,
13:17oops. So another one is here. I love this ombre. It's a great men's frame or women's. It's another
13:24unisex frame. And again, it's showing those little pops of color in our everyday style. And I just love
13:30that about the versatility of frames. And that's what we're bringing. We also have children's frames
13:36as well. So these are blue light glasses. So when they're on those computers for a long period of
13:40time or they're playing games, this is going to help them with those migraines and those headaches
13:45in that extended period of time. All right. Listen, they like the demonstrations. I'm going to give
13:51these back to you. So I'm going to come over to you for a second, right? What are some of
13:55the things
13:56that black women might be doing and they don't even know that's affecting their health? Let's
14:00talk about awareness. Sure. Um, I don't think that black women recognize our autonomy when it comes
14:06to our healthcare, um, outside of it being like open season and enrollment for when we can pick our
14:12and change our providers and our insurances, knowing that you don't have to like always your
14:17provider. And if you don't push back, um, owning the time that you have with them, oftentimes the
14:22provider will come in and it seems like they have a script, they have a checklist, have your own
14:26checklist too. And also say, wait a minute, I'm not done yet. I'm bringing a friend. If you don't
14:31understand what's going on and say, I want backup because I'm not really sure what's going on.
14:36Asking questions, having the questions prepared and written down, asking to record this and make sure you
14:40also document it. And can you put it in my chart and give me like a printed copy with so
14:45much AI
14:45and like automated systems? Sometimes things can get confusing or this get in your chart and that's
14:50not supposed to. So making sure that you know the power that you have, if you can send your fries
14:55back, I always say send your provider back. It's not working. If it's not a good fit with your
14:59therapist, it doesn't have to be a good fit with your gynecologist. I know that's right. All I heard
15:04was advocate for yourself in any way that you can. Okay. So as we wrap this up, Chantel, can you
15:09tell us
15:10really quickly, um, where can we go right here at Essence Fest 2026 to learn a little bit more about
15:15what you have going on? You can come on and join us at Black Women's Health Imperative. We just had
15:20the Sherry Shepard. Tomorrow we will have Dr. Carrie Bryant, Kendra G and Tamar Braxton. We're talking
15:26about bone health. We're talking about menopause and we're talking about sexual health. We're talking
15:30about all things black women. Oh, I love it. Go ahead and tell them that line up one more time,
15:34just in case they didn't hear it. Kendra G, Dr. Carrie Bryant and Tamar Braxton will be joining us.
15:39We just had the Sherry Shepard leave us. We just was talking about a robust conversation about
15:44menopause and our personal summers and night sweats and all the things that concern us and our bone
15:49health. So y'all make sure y'all come on out today or tomorrow and check out, we got clear
15:53bags,
15:54we got fans, we got wine tumblers. Come see us and what we got. Oh, I love it. I love
15:59it. All right.
16:00So I'm going to come to you to wrap us up, Ms. Brittany Adams. Go ahead and tell us if
16:04people want to
16:04buy some of your products, test out some of your glasses. Where can they go right here at Essence
16:09Fest 2026? All right. Right here at Essence Fest, we're going to have a showcase tomorrow in the
16:14New Voices Village. Follow us on Instagram at focusandframeiwear.com. It'll give you the exact
16:20time when we'll be over there. You can try on glasses. We can talk and talk about what your next
16:26steps in getting your next pair of frames. All right. Can we give these ladies a round of applause?
16:30Thank you all so much. All right. Well, stick around. We have more fabulous founders that you
16:34can meet in just a second. So don't go anywhere. Again, thank you so much, ladies. Thank you.
16:45All right, Essence Fest. Listen, we still have some amazing founders that you should meet. Now,
16:52I know that many of y'all are comfortable, but guess what? I have some good news for all of
16:57you,
16:57okay, as you are moving and shaking. For these ladies over here, right over here, I'm talking
17:01to y'all. They on their phones. I'm talking to you right here. Listen, y'all ladies just got upgraded
17:07to the front row. So I want y'all to come on up here so we can make sure. Come
17:11on up. We ain't
17:11going to bite you. Come on up. Okay. You can handle business right on up here. Come on up here
17:17so we
17:17can have a nice show for our founders. All right. I appreciate you. Thank you so much. Come on up,
17:23ladies. All right. So as they are making their way up, like I said, my name is Quinn Conyers,
17:29and we're going to have a fabulous conversation. More importantly, a product demonstration with
17:33some amazing founders. Go ahead, sit right here. Okay. So up first, we have the one and only
17:40Courtney Kelly of Courtney Kelly Books. Let's give Courtney a round of applause.
17:49Joining Courtney, we have Grace Yeboah of True Face by Grace. Come on, Grace. Wearing her products
17:56in true fashion. All right. Also, we have Miss Irene Biko of the Good Good Shay. Let's give it up
18:07for
18:07the pants as well. Give it up for the pants. All right. So I'm going to ask you to go
18:12right over this
18:12way in the middle for me. Right here. Yep. All right. So we're going to start with you,
18:18Miss Courtney. Can you tell us a little bit about some of your books and why are you in the
18:22business
18:22of authorship? Yeah. So the books kind of tell that story. This is my first book, Celeste Saves the City.
18:29Little Celeste was growing up right here in New Orleans and Katrina hits. And that motivates her
18:33to become a civil engineer who saves the city from flooding. That's exactly what happened to me. I was
18:3814 when Katrina hit and my parents put me into STEM camps after. I later studied civil engineering
18:43and math at SMU, followed by civil engineering with a master's degree and later an MBA. But I
18:49realized that a lot of kids didn't understand civil engineering or construction at a younger age.
18:53Hence why I wrote the books. The first one, Celeste Saves the City, Celeste Tunnels on the Ground,
18:57and the most recent release just this week, Celeste Paves the Way.
19:02Oh, I love that. I love that. And thank you so much for sharing a little bit of the backstory
19:07as well,
19:07because you didn't just write one, you wrote three. Is that correct? Probably more than that.
19:11Yes, that is correct. These are the three that are released right now. They've been sold in over
19:1616 countries, over 7,000 copies. And I have books that are still in the works and I hope to
19:21release
19:22those soon. All right. Thank you so much. Grace, I am coming to you because I see you have some
19:27fabulous
19:27items with my name on it or your name on it, depending on who makes their way over to her
19:32booth. But can you
19:33give us a little bit of background story on True Face by Grace and tell us about the products that
19:38you have
19:38in front of you? Hello, my name is Grace. I'm the founder of True Face by Grace. So True Face
19:43by Grace is an
19:44accessory and jewelry brand. We are based in the DMV and we sell bold, Afrocentric statement pieces
19:53like this necklace here. They're all handmade. Come on, we need a model for Grace because I want you to
19:59show
19:59how it is. Who wants to be a model for Grace? Can we have someone who is willing to come
20:03up on the
20:03stage? We got the lovely Shanir Dion who's going to come up all the way from Baltimore, Maryland to serve
20:09as a model. All right. So I want you to walk us through as we're putting this on her. Let
20:16me know
20:16when you're ready. Okay. So we're going to show you, I'll show you how you can wear this necklace.
20:22You put it over your face. Okay. So this is flexible. It's made from recycled material.
20:37We want to allow you to close up all your... So they mold to fit your frame. After a while,
20:43they're relaxed to fit your frame. So in order for you to secure it, you've got to put your arm
20:49through it. And putting your arm through it also changes the style. So you can put your arms through
20:56as many loops as you want and it changes the style completely. But that keeps us secure from moving
21:02around. So let's have her model it right here. Okay. We're going to have... Yeah, we're going to have
21:06Grace. You see her walking that runway? She look good with that on, don't she? She look good.
21:10Absolutely. Okay. Walking statement piece. That's it. That's all you need. This is what we call a
21:16conversation starter. All right. Well, she's going to go ahead and give her the bag while she's at it.
21:20Go ahead. Talk us a little bit about this bag. So this bag is a new design of mine. Well,
21:25it's not new.
21:25We launched it last year at Essence and it did very well. We sold out for a while. They take
21:31a long time to make.
21:32So we have different colors right now. And this is one of the new colors.
21:36So it's all handmade from thread and it's just gorgeous. She's going to model that as well.
21:43Okay, model. All right. She's a natural. Now make sure you come back, model. Don't keep walking now.
21:51All right. Thank you, Shanir, for showcasing. Stay right here because you only got a couple more minutes.
21:55You can come right on up here and serve as Grace's model. We appreciate you.
21:59So I'm also modeling all I'm wearing as well. So all these are also available in my booth.
22:06Okay. Really quickly. Tell us, where is your booth, Grace?
22:09It's just behind this construction right here.
22:135-0-0-7. Just behind right there.
22:165-0-0-7. Thank you so much. All right. I'm going to come to Miss Irene from that Good
22:21Good Shea.
22:21Now, you know it got to be good if she said it twice, right? So talk to us a little
22:25bit about that
22:25Good Good Shea and showcase your product for us.
22:28Sure. So that Good Good Shea, we sell all shea butter-based products, all natural, all vegan,
22:34and rooted in Ghanaian beauty traditions. We source our shea butter from Ghana,
22:38so you know that it's going to give you that moisture and that glow that you need.
22:42We actually have our refreshing citrus body wash here that is made with cucumber, lemon,
22:49grapefruit extract, and of course, shea butter. So it's gentle and non-stripping.
22:54The body wash pairs very nicely with our exfoliating net sponges. So they're really long,
22:59they can stretch, give you a nice wash on your back and a gentle exfoliation,
23:04removing all that dry skin and making sure that you're ready for the glow and the moisture to come
23:09on after. I love it. Now, Irene, if people want some of that Good Good Shea, tell us really quickly,
23:14where can they find you? Where can they purchase? Where can they support? So you can find that Good Good
23:19Shea on
23:19our website, also on Nordstrom.com, on Amazon, and of course here today in Beautycon. The team is there.
23:28You can find all of our products there, a large selection, and exclusive deals just because we're
23:34at Essence Fest this weekend.
23:35I heard exclusive deals. That means sign us up. I love it. Thank you so much for sharing your
23:39business with us. Miss Courtney, I'm going to come to you really quickly. If people want to know
23:43more about your books and more about the stories that are in your books, where can they find you
23:48right here at Essence Fest 2026?
