Black Business Women Introduce Themselves and their accomplishments during the Entrepreneur's Journey: Building Momentum panel at the first annual Essence and New Voices entrepreneur summit in Atlanta
Transcript
00:00I'm going to go around and let each of these women not only introduce themselves, but a little side note, in the work that I do, I find that black women, women of color, we don't like to talk about ourselves, so to speak.
00:17We don't like to hype ourselves up. We don't like to really talk about our receipts. So ladies, in addition to saying your name, what you do, all that jazz, tell all of us a receipt.
00:30Good morning, everyone. My name is Shalisa McNeil Burgess, and I am the CEO and founder of Freya.
00:39And Freya is the integration of cooling technology with beautiful fashion jewelry to combat those hot flashes.
00:47Come on, not necessary.
00:49Yes, yes. It's all about the problem solving.
00:51And I would say that one of my biggest receipts thus far is that in this journey that has taken three years to get here, we're just about ready to launch.
01:01But because of new voices, we're going to CES, which is the Consumer Electronics Show in Vegas, as one of the innovative companies.
01:10So great accomplishment, and I'm really happy about it.
01:13Come on, receipts.
01:14Good morning, everyone. My name is Simone Spence, and I am the founder and CEO of Don't Get Mad, Get Paid.
01:24We have a solution to help women to collect their unpaid child support.
01:29So what a lot of people don't know is that there is $118 billion in unpaid child support in this country.
01:37Wow.
01:38It's reported that there are 14 million cases and over 7 million women that are owed.
01:43So a long time ago, I had this problem of collecting unpaid child support, and I figured out a solution, then I started helping other women.
01:51And over the years that I worked as a consultant, I helped over 10,000 women to collect more than $15 million.
01:58Wow.
01:59So what I did, thank you.
02:01So what I did is I decided to productize my methodology, and we launched our product the beginning of October of this year, and it's a solution.
02:12It's an online solution where you just onboard, we find them for you in our platform, we find all of his income sources and his assets, and we give you all the legal paperwork that you need to collect.
02:24So because I had this problem myself, I am on a mission, my team is on a mission, to help women to collect the unpaid child support that's rightfully theirs.
02:34Yes.
02:35Amen.
02:37I told her I'm like 30 years behind, so I'm going to have to get that from her.
02:43So my name is Ada Dightman.
02:44I'm the co-founder of FloorPlan.
02:46FloorPlan is a thematic retail experiences that changes on a yearly basis.
02:51We are inside of a 180-square-feet shipping container right down MLK in front of the Hamilton train station.
02:58We are doing our current theme that will be there for one year.
03:02It's called a beauty bodega, and we recruited 12 brands from around the country to be inside this store.
03:08So they're there for one year, and the next year we could be doing street wear or whatever we desire.
03:13A receipt.
03:14We made the top 10 for the Chameleon Air Convos app to win $100K.
03:20Yes.
03:21If we win next week, that will help us buy our next shipping container that we want to put in pit spray guards.
03:27Amazing.
03:28Good morning, everyone.
03:30I'm Sheena Franklin, and I am the founder of WellCat Beauty, which is a skin care and dermatology ad.
03:37So we empower our users to take control of their skin health so you can achieve healthy skin,
03:43not just to glow during the day, but also to make sure your makeup looks great.
03:48So I would say a receipt for me.
03:51Recently, we were able to receive a major partnership and support for IBM.
03:58Amen.
03:59Wow.
03:59Yes.
04:00Congratulations.
04:02Hello, everyone.
04:03Good morning.
04:04My name is Danielle Cerenci Jones, and first of all, I'm so proud to be on this amazing panel with these incredible innovators.
04:12And that's who I consider myself.
04:14I'm an innovator of Power Hands.
04:16We are an athletic training products company.
04:19We create products for young athletes that play multiple sports.
04:24We play in the market of fitness, which is an $80 billion global market, as well as rehabilitation.
04:30So I am on a mission to help youth with their performance in an athletic training space,
04:37to help our community from a fitness and health and wellness standpoint,
04:41and to play in health care tech from a vision standpoint of helping any hand and arm injury recover quicker and faster.
04:51So what I'm proud about is, and guys, from a transparent standpoint,
04:55this wasn't part of our vision from point A, but we have sold in 85 countries.
05:03Wow.
05:0385 countries.
05:04And so now I know that I can tell, fear, you're a liar, and I can sell in 256 countries.
05:10Wow.
05:11That's my book.
05:13Good morning, everyone.
05:15I'm Mokami Kinoti Kimoto, Chief Girl Crusader, Founder, and CEO of Royals.
05:20Royals is a digital play platform created exactly for girls to inspire them and ignite them to realize their greatest potential.
05:28And we're trying to drive our girls, all our girls, not just our brown and black girls,
05:32but all our girls towards life paths in leadership and esteem.
05:36We're doing that by creating these amazing gamified learning adventures
05:40that are anchored in powerful storytelling and amazing inclusive role modeling.
05:46So think about it.
05:47Our girls will see themselves represented in digital avatars that are fierce females that are doing anything and everything that they can conjure up and imagine.
05:56And those girls who live on those mobile devices and leverage technology all day every day are actually being inspired and empowered as they're playing.
06:05Wow.
06:05That's our vision.
06:06Our vision is to impact a million girls all over the world.
06:09And one of the things I'm really proud about is that this entire journey was inspired by my daughter, who's nine years old at this point.
06:16And over the last year, as a result of the support from New Voices Fund,
06:20we've been able to touch about 800 girls so far in live experiences where they've come together with their adult influencers
06:27to talk about all that is possible for them, particularly in leadership and esteem.
06:32Last but not least, my name is Jackie.
06:40I'm the CEO of Adorned by Chi.
06:42We're a character-based lifestyle brand and original comic series for magical girls.
06:48And I guess my biggest flex is growing this company into a profitable six-figure business in less than two years.
