00:00There's some low-hanging fruit in there, Steele.
00:02They put in the five-for-five old rules.
00:06You had four seasons to play, five-year eligibility, red shirts and waivers.
00:10You know, and they moved the red shirt rule from four games to eight games.
00:14Like, just do five-for-five.
00:16So, five-for-five, when does the clock start?
00:19It starts when you turn 19 years old or enroll in full-time college,
00:23whichever happens first.
00:25So, okay, that sounds pretty good.
00:27So, you're not going to be getting guys that are, you know,
00:3030 years old playing college football, college basketball or whatever.
00:34Now, they're also, listen, there are going to be some waivers.
00:40Are there exceptions?
00:41Sure.
00:41I said this.
00:42This is fine.
00:43There's guys, you know, military service.
00:45You know, you get out of high school.
00:46You go join the military.
00:48You serve four or five years.
00:49You want to go play college sports.
00:51And, you know, when you have the ability to do that, you should be able to do that.
00:55It doesn't really affect you and I, but, you know, if you're a female athlete, you get pregnant.
01:00Okay.
01:00You get that year back.
01:02That makes sense.
01:03You can't really compete safely and do that.
01:05That makes sense.
01:06And then, also, the religious missions, which they've always kind of had in there,
01:10built in for people to have their missions during school.
01:13Those things all seem to make pretty much sense.
01:15Pretty good sense.
01:16Don't they still?
01:17I agree.
01:17So, just kind of to put it into play, for me, I enrolled 2019.
01:21I played 19, 20, 21, 22, 23.
01:25I had the option to play in 24.
01:27Under this new rule, I cannot do that.
01:29I'm officially gone.
01:30Yeah, because you got a sixth year for COVID.
01:32That would have been.
01:33Let's not include COVID.
01:35That's such a weird aspect.
01:36Yes, but you would be done.
01:37You could play five, but you can play in all of those seasons.
01:41Like, you can play on there.
01:42So, one of the other things that will be interesting is a lot of these records, like career records at
01:47schools,
01:47you have guys playing five seasons.
01:49Now, I don't know how many guys would actually ever stay at a school for five years now.
01:53Like, that seems crazy.
01:55You're probably on your fourth or fifth school by that point.
01:57But, like, records will be impacted, you know, potentially,
02:00because guys have a full extra season to be able to go out there and compete.
02:03I'm all for the records, I guess, staying where they are,
02:07because I was going to hate if a guy came in, was playing at school for seven years,
02:10and then got the all-time passing record, but he's played in 20 more games.
02:14I've never been a fan of that.
02:15There's a couple records.
02:16I think Dylan Gabriel has a couple that are standing that I'm not a fan of,
02:20because he's just there forever.
02:21He played six seasons.
02:23Yeah, that's a lot of ball.
02:25And, like, yes, it's, of course, a great thing that he got the record.
02:29That's awesome for him.
02:30But if you look at the Total Lansing,
02:32there are a bunch of guys that if they had the opportunity to play six college football seasons,
02:36I mean, his record was going to be nothing.
02:38Yeah, I mean, five years is one thing.
02:41He played six.
02:42I mean, so a lot of that stuff, you know, what does it mean?
02:45You know, the whole scheme, like, come on, man.
02:47You got six years.
02:48You're playing two years more than most of the guys ever played.
02:51A lot of people don't play as much as a freshman.
02:53So five years, you know, to get it all done, you can get out there.
02:56I like it.
02:57I think it's really good.
02:58Before we get out of here, Steele,
03:00do you have any parting thoughts or any wisdom that you were able to learn
03:04and now you want to bestow on everybody?
03:09I would just say smile.
03:11Just going around the Big Ten facility, just meeting new people,
03:15being greeted by smiles all day, it really uplifting me,
03:18and it made me want to do better.
03:20Because, like, I'm seeing them passionate for the very little things that they do,
03:23whether that's man, a camera, or be the production guy, talking in the ear.
03:27So if they're that passionate about what they're doing,
03:29and I'm the guy actually in front of the camera just talking sports,
03:32doing what I love, then I should be smiling, too.
03:34Yeah.
03:35You got to meet some awesome people there.
03:36Jenny Taft is awesome.
03:37Holly Rowe is phenomenal.
03:39It's crazy because, I mean, Steele, I'm 43, and she, like, covered me,
03:43and she always brings up covering me and AJ and different stuff, you know, back then.
03:47So it's crazy when you start working with people throughout time that you work with,
03:51and you also, they, you know, covered you when you were a part of it.
03:56So it's a very unique, unique situation.
03:58All right, sir, we appreciate your time today.
04:00We appreciate you guys listening.
04:01Thank you again for all the thoughts and prayers that are sent out to my dad.
04:05God is good, and he's always on time.
04:07He's never wrong.
04:08So we're just staying the course, trying to continue to pray hard
04:13and have a lot of belief and a lot of praise.
04:15So it's impossible to be grateful and unhappy at the same time, Steele.
