00:01Police say they've arrested two young men in the suburb of Pasco Vale in Melbourne early this morning, about 5
00:09.30 a.m.
00:10They arrested a 16-year-old and a 20-year-old in relation to the death of a 15-year
00:16-old boy here in Craigieburn last night.
00:19This teenager, the 15-year-old from Mickalham, was found with serious injuries in the car park of Craigieburn Community
00:28Hospital, which is just behind me.
00:31Hospital staff and emergency responders were involved in rendering assistance to this young man administering CPR, trying to save his
00:41life.
00:42But tragically, he died here outside the hospital in the car park shortly before 8 p.m.
00:49last night.
00:50Now, the Homicide Squad is investigating and the police are asking for any witnesses, anybody who knows anything, to get
00:58in contact with them or contact Crime Stoppers.
01:01We haven't yet been able to confirm the identity of the 15-year-old who has sadly died.
01:08We know for many Victorians who know that there is a state election coming up in November, that this latest
01:17stabbing is part of a much bigger issue of youth crime and knife crime in this state.
01:24And that the state government has been trying to drive down the youth crime rate.
01:30Just last month, the state government pointed to a 6% drop in the 12 months to March in the
01:37youth crime rate.
01:38However, Victoria Police said, although that's an encouraging statistic, in the last three years, the crime rate overall has grown
01:47by 26% in this state.
01:50And so crime in Victoria is still unacceptably high.
01:54And I've just received a statement from Northern Health, which is the operator of the hospital behind me.
02:01Northern Health says that it can confirm that at about 7.45 p.m. last night, its staff were involved
02:08in trying to help save the young boy's life.
02:11And that despite the immediate efforts of staff and emergency responders, the young man sadly died from his injuries.
02:20And they've said they don't know what the circumstances were that led to those injuries and that police are investigating
02:27that.
02:28And Northern Health also says our thoughts are with the young man's family and loved ones during this difficult time.
02:34And that it's also providing support to staff involved, a brutal attack here in Melbourne's north last night and the
02:44tragic death of a young man.
