00:17WA Police held a press conference on Tuesday afternoon where the Detective Acting Inspector of the Major Crime Division confirmed
00:24police are investigating this incident as a suspected family violence homicide.
00:29She confirmed a 16-year-old boy was in police custody and there was no ongoing risk to the wider
00:35community.
00:35Police also confirmed the 16-year-old is the son of the deceased woman and the brother of the injured
00:4112-year-old girl.
00:42The inspector said the 12-year-old girl fled the residence and called emergency services before members of the public
00:48helped her receive care.
00:50Police say the girl and her mother's injuries were both consistent with stab wounds.
00:55The inspector has described the incident as tragic.
