00:01Well, as you can see, the crash scene here on Derrimut Road has now been cleared, but
00:07the investigation still continues as police try and piece together the events from last
00:13night.
00:14Now, what officers have been able to confirm so far is that there were two cars initially
00:19involved.
00:20One of those cars was full of teenagers, maybe six, seven, maybe even more.
00:24And they've been acting aggressively towards the drivers of another car, and they've been
00:30speeding down here, reaching speeds of 180 kilometres an hour.
00:36And during that pursuit, they've tried to clip the car in front of them.
00:40That's been unsuccessful, and the car full of teenagers has flipped and spun out and
00:47crashed here.
00:48Now, one of the occupants, a 15-year-old boy in the backseat of the car, he was ejected
00:54from the car, and he died at the scene last night.
00:58Police have now confirmed there were two other teenage boys and two teenage girls who have
01:03been injured, and they're assisting police with their inquiries.
01:07The police are also keen to speak to other occupants of that car.
01:12There's reports here of two, three other teenagers running, fleeing from the scene.
01:18So that is a priority for police to try and find out who those people are as these investigations
01:23continue.
01:24Now, we've been speaking with some neighbours who live up here in Derriman Road, and they
01:29say there have been issues of cars speeding up and down here, but nothing to this scale
01:35of what we saw last night.
01:36Let's have a listen to one of those residents.
01:38I heard a car race past between 120 to 160 kph, a large bang, and I came out to the
01:45scene
01:45last night to find a young individual lying in the bitumen and three mangled cars.
01:51Now, when that car full of teenagers did crash, it actually clipped two other cars that were
01:58driving along this road, and the drivers of those cars fortunately did not sustain serious
02:03injuries.
02:04But when you look at the magnitude of the crash here, and the debris everywhere, and the speeds
02:10that these cars were traveling, 180 kilometres an hour, police say it's absolutely sheer luck
02:17that there weren't more fatalities last night.
02:20Not just by the fact that there were other motorists here, but also just how close to residential
02:26buildings we are.
