00:00A hot take.
00:00D'Amico Ryans as a head coach will not advance the Houston Texans organization
00:07beyond what until they part ways with Nick Casario.
00:09Wow.
00:11Okay.
00:12Oh, no.
00:12I just wondered if you were going to be really.
00:14No, no.
00:15Look, and I do.
00:16What got you here?
00:17I think it's hot.
00:18I think it's a hot take.
00:19I mean, because there's a lot of good.
00:21But what got you here?
00:22And when did you get here?
00:24I've been thinking a lot about this season,
00:26a lot about what's going on with C.J. Stroud,
00:30what's gone on with C.J. Stroud for a time now,
00:33what's gone on with the offensive line.
00:37I've just been doing a lot of thinking about this,
00:40and I just cannot.
00:44Like, you can't.
00:46If you're the Texans organization,
00:47you can't continue to.
00:53You can't continue to allow Nick Casario to live off of the rebuild.
01:00Again, hell of a job.
01:02Hell of a rebuild.
01:04Can't believe it happened as quick as it did.
01:07Right?
01:07The roster is tremendous.
01:09The floor is high.
01:11But you can't look at this team.
01:14Last year, and I think it's going to happen again this year,
01:16but you can't look at this team and say the misses on the offensive line
01:22have been not bad, not bad.
01:26They have been crippling.
01:28Oh, yeah.
01:29They're first and second round picks.
01:31You cannot look at this team, where they're at right now,
01:38and the weakness of this team.
01:42You cannot look at the shortcomings and not grade the hires.
01:49Like, the way this offensive staff has been plug and play,
01:53the way the offensive coordinator was just picked out of 10 years ago
01:57from New England and plugged in here,
01:59and the way that this system has really failed to produce,
02:05I don't believe you can look at anybody but Nick Casario.
02:09And I don't think that it's going to change as long as Nick's here.
02:13Quite frankly, it's bulls**t.
02:14Really, the overall thing is D'Amico Rhines is going to have to take over
02:20the entire football team if they're going to advance.
02:24I don't think this approach, I don't think the David Montgomery,
02:29Ed Ingram, Wyatt Teller, Braden Smith approach to we're going to run
02:33the football better, that's going to be our improvement,
02:35I don't think it's going to be enough.
02:36And when you look at what, like, really, really what pushes the envelope,
02:42and look, I'm not the biggest C.J. Stroud fan, obviously.
02:45I think anybody that listens knows that.
02:49But just the football, the former quarterback in me,
02:52the football mind in me, I just can't get beyond the thought
02:56of how C.J. Stroud has been handled and dealt with.
03:01I can't believe.
03:03And you think that's more going towards Casario than it is, Nicko?
03:09Absolutely.
03:10Absolutely.
03:11100%.
03:11The Bobby Sloick thing, I think they probably pulled the trigger,
03:15and I'm on record when it happened.
03:17They probably pulled the trigger and fired Bobby Sloick too soon.
03:21Based on the early experience they had,
03:23now I don't know what was going on behind closed doors,
03:24so they may have been forced into it.
03:28But to do that and then change gears, switch gears completely
03:31into the 2000 New England offense,
03:35and never at any point in time did you take into consideration
03:39that your quarterback may not be – that may not be his strengths,
03:43that may not be the best system for him,
03:45to never take into consideration that, you know,
03:52your strengths and weaknesses across the board.
03:59I don't know, man.
04:00I just – I think that as long as Nick is here,
04:05I think they're going to have a hard time offensively.
04:07I mean, you look at what all of those – all of the offensive –
04:10the decisions on the offensive side of the ball,
04:13the hardest thing to do in football is to find your quarterback.
04:18And all of those decisions, where I was going with it earlier,
04:22all of those decisions – I'm not the biggest C.J. Stroud fan –
04:25but all of those decisions, you very easily –
04:29in fact, you can't avoid saying have potentially ruined
04:36a franchise quarterback.
04:38You could – now, you had no choice with Deshaun.
04:41You had no choice with Deshaun.
04:43He forced your hand, and then we all know what happened
04:45with the lawsuits, you know, all that crap.
04:49He let you off the hook getting caught doing all that crap.
04:51Or it would have – it was a bad deal then too, right?
04:55This is one where I don't know how you –
04:59when the C.J. Stroud thing is over, and if it doesn't work out,
05:05I don't know how you don't look directly back at Nick Cassero.
05:10Now, your thoughts.
05:12I see people texting in, 713-572-4610, YouTube and Twitch.
05:17Clint says he thinks D'Amico Ryans will not advance this organization
05:22to where they want to get to until he and Nick Cassero part ways
05:27because you believe this needs to be a complete D'Amico,
05:33from a football perspective, D'Amico-visioned team.
05:37D'Amico needs to go –
05:38And you don't think it is that right now.
05:40No, I do not.
05:40It's probably a split.
05:41I do not.
05:42And I think anybody that isn't employed by the Texans,
05:50I think anybody that doesn't see that is lying to themselves.
05:54I think it's blatantly obvious that Nick's making the decisions
05:57on the offensive side of the football.
06:01And I think D'Amico's handed the reins over to him.
06:04Until D'Amico takes his thing back over and says,
06:06I'm going to go out and I'm going to hire the best offensive coordinator I can find,
06:09and that guy's going to be a perfect fit for my quarterback
06:11and I'm going to build around my quarterback.
06:13Until that happens, I don't think you're going to 2,000 New England Patriots
06:17your way beyond the second round.
06:18I just don't think it's going to happen.
06:19I'm thinking –
06:22I'm thinking through this as you are speaking, like I'm sure many of you are.
06:29And my thought is, in this stretch, when is the time –
06:36and maybe, Tyler, you'd think it too –
06:39when is the time that you felt most confident in this team?
06:48In this run, since they've had D'Amico, in this run,
06:52they've been to three straight playoffs, three straight double-win seasons,
06:56two of the three, they've won the division.
06:59They've won a playoff game every year.
07:00When did you feel most confident in this team?
07:05When Joe Mixon was rolling and you had three –
07:07they were trying to stretch the field and playing to C.J.'s strengths?
07:11It was –
07:12Mid-year.
07:13Mid-year.
07:13After C.J.'s rookie year going into the next year.
07:17Yep.
07:17Yep.
07:17That is the most confident I have felt.
07:20That's the correct answer.
07:21And at that time, that was clearly a –
07:27D'Amico is the top football person.
07:30No question.
07:31And everything runs through him.
07:33Now, those young guys were so ahead of schedule.
07:36And it was –
07:36I mean, you had to say that.
07:38You had to think that.
07:39It was – because let's just be honest.
07:42Them ain't feel like no Nick Casario moves.
07:45Bobby Sloick?
07:46Are you talking about Joe Mixon?
07:48Bobby Sloick, we know –
07:49Joe Mixon and Diggs.
07:51Bobby Sloick, we know who he came with.
07:54He came with D'Amico.
07:56D'Amico knew they were in San Francisco together.
07:58That was his dude.
07:59And then we saw the vision of the team was through D'Amico.
08:05I still – always that playoff game against the –
08:08or basic playoff game against the Colts.
08:10Whoever won was going to win the division and get in,
08:13and then whoever lost didn't.
08:15At that halftime, my man said,
08:17we're going to go as far as C.J. Stroud takes us.
08:20Yeah.
08:20That was the mindset, and that was how they were operating.
08:24And then in between that year, he not only said,
08:28Neil, let's go get – such and such.
08:30He said, let's go get Diggs.
08:31Let's go get Joe Mixon.
08:33That does not sound like New England trade in a second round pick
08:37to go get Joe Mixon or to go get Stephon Diggs.
08:43That don't – that sounds like a D'Amico-led team
08:47because the next year when it felt like it shifted,
08:51they went out and got, what, two for 20.
08:55They got cheap on the offensive line and did –
08:58Oh, Applebee's.
09:00They got rid of Laramie Tunsil.
09:03Yep.
09:03So, the – like, even though I think this team is probably better,
09:09like right now maybe is the best chance just from a team perspective,
09:15the time that you felt the most confident – to me,
09:18the time I felt the most confident in the Texans,
09:21that last time, D'Amico to me clearly was the person who was the vision
09:29from a football standpoint of this team and it was the most confident
09:33that you felt in CJ.
09:35No question.
09:35No question whatsoever.
09:38I didn't think of it from that perspective, but your spot –
09:40you're nail on the head right there.
09:42There's no doubt about it.
09:43Like, I just – I just absolutely despise this offense.
09:49And the way that they – the way that they've handled their quarterback
09:53the last year has been – is a tad bit mind-boggling.
09:59I just – I don't think you get better with this approach.
10:03Yep.
10:03Texan line coming in.
10:05I 100% agree with the F&R.
10:09We will never get anywhere else until we get a new quarterback
10:13and a better OC.
10:16See, my guy Clint, love that hot take.
10:19We go nowhere until we aren't Patriot South.
10:22Things are fixable.
10:23Oh, Clint, I don't often agree with you or like what you say.
10:28But I can't completely understand what you're saying about D'Amico.
10:33D'Amico doesn't seem to want to have any part of it with the offense.
10:37And that has got us to a point where our GM is having to run it.
10:41No, I think – I think –
10:45Clearly, he was all good with taking over when he first got here.
10:50I don't know what happened that allowed Nick to get back –
10:54to get back into even with D'Amico.
10:57Shoot, he got a year removed from that dysfunctional mess that was before.
11:01He got a year removed from that Easterby mess.
11:03Because it was clear –
11:04Worked his way back in there, boy.
11:05It was clear D'Amico was the top.
11:08Yeah.
11:10Right.
11:10Even though technically he hired – the GM hired and vice president has a hired –
11:19Job title.
11:20Title than the head coach and he hired him.
11:24There was a point we hired – when D'Amico got hired, well, Nick Casario can't fire him.
11:29D'Amico was the most powerful person.
11:31I still don't think he can.
11:32But he's the loudest person.
11:34But somehow, those two have gotten even.
11:37Agreed.
11:39Seems like it.
11:40Yeah.
11:40Seems like it.
11:41And just don't like the approach on the entire offensive side of the ball.
11:47And I tell you, this is a hill I'm going to die on.
11:52And I can't just sit around and let folks talk about Nick Cayley.
11:56I mean, I don't mean not talk about him, but just like put all the blame on the offensive corner.
11:59Hey, man, that was a never called plays guy that just got plugged and said, yeah, I'll take the job.
12:05I'll take the job with all these other – these former New England Patriot guys.
12:09Yeah, I'll jump in there.
12:10The plan was trash from jump.
12:14Yeah.
