00:00A person keeps learning throughout every stage of his life.
00:04Imam Ibn al-Mubarak also says,
00:06We shall continue to seek knowledge from the cradle to grave.
00:10That's true!
00:11And on the topic, we have with us Sister Hanna Abdusattar.
00:15She is a trainer, counselor and a motivational speaker.
00:19She has done master's in Islamic studies and BS with a major in psychology.
00:24She is a curriculum developer, tafseer teacher and head of theology department of MEC Chicago.
00:32She has a diploma in Quran, tafseer and sahih bukhari.
00:37Assalamualaikum Sister.
00:39Alaikum Assalamualaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuhu.
00:42What does the Quran say about education?
00:44The first revelation of the Quran,
00:47Iqra bismi rabbika al-lazhi khalaq.
00:49The first five ayahs of Surah Al-Alaq.
00:51Allah Subh'anaHu Wa Ta-Ala tells Prophet Muhammad Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam,
00:55Read with the name of your Lord.
00:57Read with the Lord that created you.
01:00And you know kids, Prophet Muhammad Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam was unlettered.
01:03He couldn't read or write.
01:05And Allah Subh'anaHu Wa Ta-Ala sent Angel Jibrail for the first time.
01:10And this was the first revelation of the Quran.
01:13And he told our beloved Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam to read.
01:16And the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam was very scared.
01:19He was terrified when he saw Jibrail Al-Alaihi Wasallam for the first time.
01:22And he refused.
01:24He told him, I can't read.
01:25Wa ma ana biqari.
01:26Then Jibrail Al-Alaihi Wasallam hugged him and squeezed him tightly.
01:30And three times he repeated this ayah of the Quran.
01:35So this shows the importance of seeking education.
01:38Allah Subh'anaHu Wa Ta-Ala begins the communication with mankind
01:42with this word, iqra, which means to read and to contemplate.
01:48So this shows that Quran highly emphasizes on us seeking beneficial knowledge.
