00:11Venezuela's acting president, Elsie Rodriguez, and the Commission for the Evaluation of Habitability, Housing, and Infrastructure in the Wake of
00:18the Earthquakes.
00:22Global condemnation escalates against Israel's actions in the West Bank as authorities warn the illegal occupation undermines Palestinian sovereignty.
00:36The evil outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo has reached 1,307 confirmed cases spreading into Uganda and recording
00:44its first imported case in France.
00:53Hello, welcome to From the South. I'm Lorena Fong from the Telesurio Studios in Caracas, Venezuela.
00:58We begin with the news. Stay with us.
01:15On Monday, Venezuela's acting president, Elsie Rodriguez, announced immediate information of the Presidential Commission for the Evaluation of Habitability, Housing,
01:24and Infrastructure task with assessing the impact on buildings in the wake of the earthquakes.
01:29In this regard, Elsie Rodriguez reported that a specialized technical team has been established to evaluate whether homes are fit
01:37for habitation.
01:38The Commission is already at work verifying living conditions and determining whether residents can safely return to their homes.
01:45The acting president explained that public infrastructure, including roads, bridges, and elevated highways, will also be inspected to assess damages.
02:05Thousands of housing solutions will be available before the end of this year.
02:12Additionally, the Ministry of Housing and Habitat is preparing projects to construct new housing as quickly as possible.
02:20We have already classified those who lost their homes and must be assisted immediately in these temporary camps.
02:29They are assessing the habitability of homes affected by the earthquakes.
02:35I would like to welcome the establishment of this high command and report that teams of expert engineers and architects
02:41have been deployed to La Guayra, Miranda State, and Caracas.
02:46There are thousands of solutions before the end of this year.
02:51As part of international cooperation following the devastating earthquake that struck Venezuela on June 24,
02:59Acting President Elsie Rodriguez held a meeting with a delegation from the United States government.
03:04This meeting took place amid intensive rescue and humanitarian aid operations underway in the most affected areas
03:11with the deployment of more than 3,000 rescuers from 30 countries, the distribution of aid to affected families,
03:18and the setup of 50 temporary camps in La Guayra and Caracas to house those who have completely lost their
03:25homes.
03:26Also, Washington confirmed the dispatch of humanitarian aid to address the effects of the tragedy.
03:31In this regard, the government drew a firm's commitment to continue working in a coordinated manner
03:35to ensure the well-being of the Venezuelan people during this difficult time the country is facing.
03:48And on Monday, the President of the National Assembly of Venezuela, Jorge Rodriguez, presented an update
03:53on the figures for victims and damage caused by the earthquakes in the country.
03:58The Venezuelan official detailed that the death toll rises to 1,719 with over 5,000 injured.
04:05Jorge Rodriguez also highlighted that 611 seismic events have been registered since June 24, affecting 22,619 people.
04:16With 855 buildings affected, approximately 60 temporary camps are currently operational.
04:22The President of the National Assembly also noted that over 75,000 people have been assisted
04:28in terms of hydration, food, transport and relocation.
04:39In this context, rescue efforts continue in La Guayra stayed hard hit by the earthquakes that hit Venezuela on June
04:4524.
04:46Our correspondent, Belen De Los Santos, has more details.
04:50Rescue works have continued nonstop in La Guayra, the Venezuelan state that was harshly hit by the June 24th twin
04:57earthquakes.
04:58Four days after the event, national and international brigades continued reaching survivors under the rubble.
05:06Two hours ago, we had contact with the survivors at these two work sites.
05:11The colleagues here set up a live stream, we set up an internet connection and we got to contact them.
05:17That's what allowed for the interaction.
05:18And so we continue in the work site. We hope to get five, six survivors from here.
05:26In the Los Cocos area, many continue searching for their family members,
05:31following rescue operations and checking centralized hospital data in hope of receiving good news from their loved ones.
05:40A lot of strength. I wish everyone hope and not to give up on what our heart tells us.
05:45I'm confident my sister is okay. For my sister, I'll go to the ends of the earth.
05:52Meanwhile, temporary camps were set up to help those affected with food and water available as well as medical assistance.
06:01We have very good health professionals who are caring for the injured.
06:05We have several tents alongside other organizations who are independent from the government
06:10and are accompanying the needs of our people and nation in this moment of solidarity.
06:18Fifteen such camps are already set up in the state in an effort to mitigate the devastating impact of the
06:25twin quakes.
06:26Belen de los Santos for Telesur English from La Guaira, Venezuela.
06:33Precisely in the state of La Guaira on Mondays, Venezuela's acting president,
06:37Delce RodrÃguez, visited a temporary camp in Katia Lamar, home to families affected by the seismic event.
06:43She was accompanied by national and regional authorities as well as representatives
06:47of the organizations responsible for handling the emergency.
06:51They supervised the conditions in which people affected by the violent phenomenon were living.
06:55authorities evaluated the most urgent needs paying special attention to the elderly
07:00and other groups considered vulnerable following the earthquakes.
07:04They also reiterated that assistance, accompaniment and recovery operations will continue in the affected areas
07:10while maintaining actions aimed at attending to families affected by the emergency.
07:22The locality of Morón in the Venezuelan state of Carabobo was also one of the areas hit by the earthquakes.
07:29From the site, our correspondent Luis Alberto Matos has more details.
07:35June 29th, early in the morning, we set out to visit our communities affected by devastating back-to-back earthquakes
07:42that struck Venezuela.
07:43Our first stop, Morón, in Carabobo state.
07:46The streets are quiet, wrapped in a tense calm.
07:49There is sadness in the air, but also faith and hope.
07:53The loss of life here was limited compared to the devastation in La Guayra.
07:57Yet the experience was deeply traumatic, leaving dozens of families without a place to call home.
08:04This is the Colinas de Petubén neighborhood.
08:06And this is Yahaira Gomez's story.
08:10I don't want to keep remembering.
08:12Once you start, it never ends.
08:14This episode is never going to end.
08:17This is all that remains of our home.
08:20Her son, Edgar, allowed us inside the ruins of what had been their family's home for many years.
08:27Well, there was a scare. I was bathing my son right here.
08:30I was watching him.
08:31When he suddenly started shaking, suddenly he fell ahead of him.
08:34This wall came out, crashing down. It almost fell on top of him.
08:38Surviving the earthquake was nothing short of a miracle.
08:41They were trapped beneath the debris until their neighbors rushed in, united, to save them.
08:46Our neighbors helped us. We're very close.
08:48Things are going to work together.
08:50Yahaira gives thanks every day simply for being alive.
08:53Pieces of concrete crashed down onto her head.
08:56And for a moment, she believed she would never make it out.
09:00I was the one who got hurt because something hit me on the head and right here.
09:04I still have the bruise.
09:06Did you go to the lockdown?
09:07Yes, they came and examined me.
09:10They said it was just a bomb, but since I believe in God, I think he protected me.
09:15This is just one of the countless stories shared by families across the affected communities.
09:19Tonight, many will sleep on the street, sheltered only by a tent and the mattresses they managed to rescue with
09:25remarkable courage.
09:26They are not alone.
09:27Aid has begun to arrive, yet despite losing almost everything, they still offer to share what they have, even with
09:33the journalists covering their story.
09:34This is not a time to dwell on what was lost, but to be grateful for what remains.
09:38Life, solidarity, and hope.
09:41Luis Alberto Matos, Morón, Carabobo State, Venezuela, Telesur.
09:45And the race against time enters a critical phase in La Guayra, where rescue operations face a cruelling 6th day.
09:53Heavy overnight rains have further complicated the mission, yet domestic and international teams refuse to give up hope.
09:59For a comprehensive update on the ground, we go now to our correspondent, Belen de los Santos.
10:07Hello, studios.
10:08One more day here in La Guayra, one of the most affected states in Venezuela after the twin earthquakes.
10:15As we have been following this closely in Telesur English, some things to keep in mind for today.
10:21It is the sixth day after the twin earthquakes.
10:26That means, of course, that it's crucial for rescue teams to continue working because, of course, hours are passing.
10:34And that is key for the rescue operations and survivables.
10:38Important to know that the rescue teams continue to work to this moment.
10:45And that is very important in terms of understanding the efforts that are being made to rescue as many lives
10:52as possible.
10:53We have been following here with our colleagues throughout the night the rescue operations that continue,
11:00even though, of course, with the days past, the window of opportunity is slim in terms of recovering those lives.
11:11But every effort counts.
11:12Let's also recall that we have brigades not only from the Venezuelan departments,
11:18a lot of brigades that have come from other states in Venezuela and are collaborating here in La Guayra.
11:24But also, in the last days, the joint effort of the international brigades that we are seeing them working throughout
11:33the state in the most affected areas.
11:36Brigades from 24 states, 24 nations that have come here to Venezuela to help in the rescue operations, but also
11:46in the psychological assistance in the rescue of animals as well.
11:50And also, all the different kills and operations needed at such a situation of the extent and damage that we
11:59are seeing here.
12:00Let's recall that the initial assessments and figures regarding damage to the infrastructure are talking about over 750 buildings.
12:15Damage of those over 180 with complete collapse that those are figures from the Venezuelan government in the entire nation.
12:25And of course, this is one of the most affected regions.
12:28One other thing to keep in mind, it was a very hard night, the one that led to this day
12:34with a lot of rain, very, very hard rain.
12:38And of course, that is not only very hard on the people who are staying at the camps and let's
12:47recall that we have a lot of damaged houses.
12:49So the government has set up temporary camps where many of these people are staying.
12:54They're also being provided with assistance in terms of food, water, medical assistance as well.
13:00But of course, the rain, very heavy rain complicated the situation and of course also had an important impact, negative
13:08impact on the rescue operations in the work sites of the collapsed buildings as well.
13:16Because the heavy rain makes it harder to continue those operations.
13:20It solidifies the ground on which the teams are working.
13:27And of course, rescue operations, as we were saying, continue.
13:30But the rain was something that complicated situation even more.
13:36That is the situation for right now.
13:38We will continue going over the side talking to everyone.
13:42We're just talking to one of the rescue teams.
13:45They are telling us that even though a lot of days have passed, they are continuing now to go side
13:51by side to every place that they have worked to check and double check that there is no possibility of
13:59anyone being still alive.
14:01And if there is such possibility to continue working.
14:05So the goal now is to make it absolutely the main priority that all lives are rescued as the past
14:13days as well.
14:14So that is all for now, but we will continue reporting.
14:17I go back to you now.
14:20And now we have a short break coming up.
14:23But first, remember, you can join us on TikTok at Telesur English where you will find news in different formats,
14:28news updates and more.
14:31Stay with us.

17:53The United Nations condemned the escalation of settlement activity by the Israeli occupation in the West Bank.
17:59In the United Nations, Secretary General Antonio Guterres condemned the Israel's actions, warning that such policies are exacerbating the displacement
18:09crisis in the occupied West Bank.
18:11The diplomat stated that these actions escalate the conflict to entrench the illegality of the occupation, undermine the sovereignty of
18:20the Palestinian people, and destroy the possibility of a future independent state.
18:25The European nations issued a joint statement expressing their concern about the West Bank.
18:30The signatories also called on Israeli authorities to halt their settlement plans.
18:43The Democratic Republic of the Congo informed that the confirmed Ebola cases in the country have reached 1,307 and

19:40returning from a mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
