00:20Hello, the Maracay region in the Arawa state here in Venezuela was affected as well by the
00:26earthquakes that struck the nation on Wednesday, June 24th. Our correspondent Luis Alberto Matos is there and has more details
00:34to share with us.
00:37Good afternoon, studios. I'm currently here in Maracay state of Arawa and a lot of the stuff we
00:42have made throughout this day as we travel across Venezuela to see the impact and learn about the
00:47story and experiences of the victims of the two powerful back-to-back earthquakes that struck the
00:51Bolivar nation on June 24th, last Wednesday. Right now, where we're standing is the presidential
00:58complex Los Mangos, which was one of the most impacted areas here in this region of Maracay
01:03Arawa. If you can see all the infrastructure damage that the building suffered, the building
01:08has been declared by the authorities as uninhabitable. 700 families have been evacuated from this
01:15building. They are currently is residing on the streets on the perimeter alongside the street
01:21of the building and they have told us that they have received support from the mayorship of this
01:27region and they have provided them with confidence that they would not be left abandoned and that
01:32help would come to help with the reconstruction of the building. The building has been declared
01:36uninhabitable due to the structural damages, but the authorities have said that it can be restored,
01:41it can be rebuilt. They don't need to demolish the building. So it's a little rate of hope for the
01:46over 700 families that live in this residential complex. They have also received help in terms of
01:53food, clothing, the people. This is something we have seen repeated across in all these places we have
01:58been. The people from different neighboring neighborhoods and neighboring states have traveled to
02:03each of these places to provide the necessary help and aid that these people need. So this is what is
02:08happening right now here in Maracay. We will continue to travel across Venezuela to learn more about the
02:14stories behind the way the victims believed the devastating 7.2-7.5 earthquakes that struck last
02:22Wednesday, June 24th. We go back to the studios.
