Traffic won't be the only impact on travel this week as an expanding heat dome and thunderstorms are expected to make things worse.

00:00If you're one of the 72 million Americans traveling for the 4th of July, your biggest delay may not be
00:05traffic, it could be the weather.
00:07AAA says a record 72.2 million people are traveling at least 50 miles over the holiday period,
00:13with millions hitting the roads and airports, breaking last year's record of 71.8 million.
00:19Mother Nature may be throwing a wrench into some of those plans, though.
00:23A dangerous heat dome will bake much of the Midwest, Northeast, and the South through much of the week,
00:28bringing dangerous heat to over 250 million Americans.
00:31If you're driving, pack extra water, check your vehicle before you leave, and never leave kids or pets in a
00:37parked car.
00:38Then, as the heat dome begins to break down this weekend, thunderstorms will become more widespread across parts of the
00:44Midwest, Northeast, and Southeast.
00:46That means rapidly changing travel conditions with storms, causing airport delays and drenching interstates from hour to hour.
00:53Whether you're flying or driving, check the AccuWeather forecast before you head out and be ready for weather that could
00:58change in a flash.
