00:00Even as shipping resumes through the Strait of Hormuz, an attack on a cargo ship has raised
00:04concerns about the safety of commercial vessels. Joining us now is Bloomberg Washington correspondent
00:09Tyler Kendall in Washington. Tyler, what is the latest? Hey, Danny. Well, at this point,
00:15a White House official tells us that they are looking into this attack and they're trying to
00:19determine whether it was perhaps ordered by the high levels of the IRGC or if it was maybe a rogue
00:25decision by lower level personnel. But regardless, it does mark the first such attack since the
00:31memorandum of understanding was signed. Though, as you mentioned, at least for now, it doesn't appear
00:35to really be derailing the process and reopening the Strait of Hormuz as data is still showing us
00:40that vessels are transiting through, though it is raising concerns in particular because this attack
00:45happened what is considered to be the safer corridor in the Strait of Hormuz. This is that route that
00:51hugs the coast of Oman and that the U.S. monitors. But there is, of course, this heightened tension now,
00:56as we even heard earlier today from Iran's foreign minister reiterating the idea that any ships that
01:01are seeking safe transit have to still coordinate with the country because it wasn't just this attack
01:06that we saw yesterday. There were also at least three supertankers who had to turn around reportedly
01:12after hearing warnings from Iran's Navy. Now, we can't say breaking. In the last 15 minutes or so,
01:18we did get this report from Iranian state TV that the U.S. and Iran have officially established this
01:24mechanism to keep communication open to avoid any military escalation in the Strait. This was
01:30that aspect that the vice president, J.D. Vance, had confirmed after this weekend's talks. But this
01:35appears to be the first confirmation from the Iranian side that this could be up and running. But,
01:40Danny, at this point, U.S. officials have maintained, including the secretary of state,
01:44Marco Rubio, to reporters overnight that any deal where Iran is seeking to have
01:48control over the Strait or impose fees just will not be acceptable to the U.S.
