00:00And we're going now with our colleague Andrea Romero, who's still in Caracas, in San MartĂn District,
00:04telling us a bit more about what's going on there.
00:08Since last night, we haven't slept with the situation.
00:13There was an aftershock recently, and we had to run out of the house
00:20because there was the new cracks that have appeared.
00:26And we need the authorities to come here and to tell us what to do
00:31because we don't know what to do.
00:36We would like somebody to come and tell us, you should do this or that
00:41because we don't know what to do and everything is cracking and we have been running away.
00:53What's going on is that the situation is not easy.
01:00We cannot complain because we find there's people still trapped in Mr. Debris,
01:05but we would like someone from firefighters and somebody to tell us something
01:12because we are in the back of this building and that's horrible too.
01:17We don't know what's going to happen.
01:19And it's a very important role you have as journalists.
01:24I like to recognize the firefighters, police forces, journalists,
01:29everything everybody does is out there going ahead and facing the situation.
01:35And we are brave and moving forward with this.
01:41And I like to highlight the work of acting president de Cerro DĂaz
01:45and everything she's doing to face this kind of situation.
01:54The entire community that is here,
01:58we have been joined together,
02:01we have old people and we have young children
02:05and everybody has come together to try to help them.
02:10And we have stayed here for a long time.
02:13But now with the aftershocks,
02:15the building is still moving
02:16and we don't know what else is going to happen.
02:19and we prefer to prevent any danger and move.
02:27The building is divided in three parts
02:32and there's a lot of families that live there.
02:38And each apartment, there's a lot of families,
02:40two, three families in each apartment.
02:44And when I said, this side of the building,
02:48I mean, this,
02:53because the building is divided in four parts,
02:58that this part of the building represents,
03:01it's moving to motion, it represents a risk.
03:05We're looking at yesterday in Los Ruizes,
03:09several buildings separated
03:11because of these earthquakes,
03:15these 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude earthquakes
03:19in the side of La Guayra and the capital.
03:23This, where we were just with our colleague,
03:25Andrea Romero, who was telling us a bit more
03:27about what has been going on.
03:34There have been,
03:35that there have been a lot of people
03:37showing solidarity and showing support
03:39and neighbors joining together,
03:41but there's a lot of people that still,
03:43a lot of buildings are still at risk
03:45and people don't know what to do.
03:48Unfortunately,
03:49when
03:52I couldn't,
04:00when the acting president
04:01made the announcement
04:06after the event,
04:08I couldn't
04:10charge anything,
04:12so I stayed outside the registry
04:15and we didn't have any internet
04:17and we didn't have any electricity.
04:22This is the people from this district
04:25in this building in San Martin district
04:27that have been greatly affected
04:29by the earthquake
04:30and the aftermath of the earthquake.
04:33We have a common path
04:35to move forward
04:36after the aftershocks
04:38that have been going on
04:40after the earthquakes,
04:41earthquakes of such a magnitude
04:43of 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude.
04:49There's a lot
04:50that has been going on
04:51in all these spaces
04:52and a lot of people
04:54that have
04:56had a complicated situation
04:58and are still struggling
04:59to get by,
05:01are still struggling
05:02to
05:04be able to,
05:05a lot of people
05:06who haven't been able
05:07to go inside their houses,
05:09a lot of buildings
05:10who are not collapsed,
05:12who haven't collapsed,
05:13but are in great danger
05:14because the walls are cracked
05:16and the aftershocks
05:17can at any moment
05:19further damage
05:20any kind of infrastructure.
05:22So there's a lot of families
05:24who are outside the buildings
05:25and have nowhere to go
05:26and are not sure
05:27if they can come back
05:30to their homes or not.
05:32We are seeing
05:33that the images right now,
05:34this is from La Guayra said,
05:35very harsh images
05:36of all the destruction
05:38that these two earthquakes
05:41have left behind.
05:46We have been seeing
05:47a lot of solidarity
05:48and a lot of collaboration
05:49among the neighbors
05:50in different parts
05:52of the country,
05:53a lot of people
05:53joining in
05:54for the search and rescue operations,
05:56a lot of people
05:57moving to places
05:58like Guayra
05:59that has been greatly affected,
06:02moving water
06:04and food
06:05and medicines
06:06and a bit of everything.
06:14we have been
06:18we are looking at the images
06:19right now
06:19from La Guayra
06:20from several
06:23and moving back
06:25to Caracas
06:26we have a colleague
06:27Andrea Romeo.
06:30There's
06:32the local authorities
06:33have tried to keep
06:34the population
06:36and trying to keep
06:38contact with the population
06:39and we felt
06:39the tranquility
06:40and the calm
06:42of having
06:43the Venezuelan government
06:44taking direct action
06:47to face
06:48this situation.
06:50How have you felt
06:51the fear
06:51and the anxiety
06:53of the situation?
06:54How have you felt?
06:56Well,
06:57there has obviously
06:57been an unprecedented situation.
07:00We're not used
07:01to these kind of things
07:02and we have been
07:04in contact
07:05with the authorities,
07:07with the national authorities,
07:08with the,
07:09through social media
07:11and we have
07:13been,
07:14we have seen
07:15that they're
07:16taking care of things
07:17that they are
07:19reporting everything
07:20and giving you
07:21information
07:22about where to call
07:23and where to go
07:24and we really
07:26have authorities,
07:27national authorities
07:28that have been worried
07:29about the population
07:30and have been acting
07:32to help the population.
07:39this situation
07:40that's out there,
07:41there's people
07:42still trapped
07:42against the rebel
07:43and that people
07:44is a priority
07:45to save those people.
07:46We're just asking
07:47for some kind
07:48of evaluation
07:49from the authorities
07:50to prevent
07:50any photo damage.
07:55right now
07:56the internet
07:57there was
07:58some event
08:00when part of the world
08:02that fell from the
08:03behind
08:03and fell
08:04on the internet cable
08:05so we have
08:06no internet
08:06but electricity
08:08we have
08:09we still have
08:10electricity supply
08:11and we still
08:13have water
08:18we hope there's
08:19no more events
08:21like this
08:21we hope that
08:22everything will
08:23remain calm
08:24from now on.
08:28I'm afraid of
08:29losing my home
08:30obviously
08:33not only of that
08:34because we are
08:35a big family
08:37there's a lot
08:38of people
08:38in my family
08:39so most of them
08:41are old people
08:43so over 70
08:44years old
08:45so it's very hard
08:47but we also trust
08:48the local authorities
08:49the national authorities
08:50and we know
08:52that we are going
08:52to have an answer
08:53for the situation.
08:57And what do you
08:58think about
08:59the acting president
09:00that created a fund
09:01for the
09:02budget
09:02to allocate
09:04to the people
09:05that have been
09:07damaged
09:08because of the
09:08situation.
09:11There's been
09:12a fund
09:13created by
09:14San President
09:14of 200 million
09:16dollars
09:16to face
09:19the situation
09:19for reconstruction
09:20efforts
09:21for all the people
09:22that have lost
09:22their businesses
09:23for all the people
09:25that have
09:25lost their jobs
09:27because of
09:28this situation
09:30and for all
09:32the people
09:32that have lost
09:32their homes
09:33because of
09:34the buildings
09:35that have
09:36either collapsed
09:37or have become
09:38inhabitable
09:38after the
09:40events
09:40of yesterday
09:41evening.
09:49We continue
09:50looking at the
09:51images
09:51from Caracas
09:53from La Guayera
09:53from all the
09:54rescue efforts
09:55from all the
09:56solidarity efforts
09:57that have been
09:57going on
09:58to hold
09:59the most
09:59affected people
10:00to either
10:01the rescue
10:02search and rescue
10:03effort
10:03to find people
10:04that are still
10:05trapped beneath the
10:06rubble
10:06according to
10:07latest reports
10:08from Venezuelan
10:08authorities
10:09there's over
10:10200 people
10:11at least 200
10:13people trapped
10:13beneath the
10:14rubble
10:14but not also
10:16that in general
10:16there's been
10:172,927 families
10:19that have been
10:20damaged by
10:21these
10:23earthquakes
10:25and a lot
10:26of families
10:26that have lost
10:27their homes
10:27and a lot
10:28of people
10:28that have
10:29lost their
10:29loved ones
10:33so it has
10:34been very
10:34complicated
10:35but it also
10:36has been
10:36very beautiful
10:37to find
10:37all these
10:38shows of
10:38solidarity
10:39all of the
10:41people that
10:41are supporting
10:42and helping
10:43each other
10:43and have been
10:44since this
10:45event took
10:46place yesterday
10:47evening
10:48we have seen
10:49that
10:51in all over
10:52Caracas
10:53all over
10:53La Guayra
10:54people supporting
10:55each other
10:58there's also
10:59have been
11:01many
11:01aftershocks

11:05there's
11:06a lot
11:06of damaged

11:10that are
11:11in danger
11:12of falling

11:13of collapsing
11:14because of
11:15one of
11:15these
11:15aftershocks
11:16that can
11:17end up
11:19damaging
11:20the already
11:21weakened structures
11:21of these
11:22kind of
11:22buildings
11:22so
11:24the
11:25Venezuelan
11:26authorities
11:26have been
11:27very
11:28retreative
11:28about
11:31taking care
11:32that the
11:32people
11:33don't return
11:33to damaged
11:34buildings
11:35and taking
11:35care that
11:35the people
11:36stay in
11:36open areas
11:37in the
11:37streets
11:38and
