"Regardless of if he (Jaylen Brown) gets traded or not, this ENTIRE thing is a DISASTER" WHO IS TO BLAME?? Scheim: "It has to be Brad Stevens"
Is this Brad Stevens' biggest misstep? If so, is it his first misstep?
Transcript
00:00I've come to the point with this Jalen Brown situation where regardless of if he gets traded or not, this
00:05entire thing is a disaster.
00:07This is one of the, I couldn't tell you the last time the Celtics have had this kind of like
00:13offseason just kind of cluster F, it feels like.
00:18It's just you weren't able to get over the line for the Giannis deal, which would have been fine.
00:23Like if you had just gotten it done and wiped your hands clean of it, everything would be fine.
00:26We'd be moving on.
00:27People would be excited for Giannis.
00:28But unfortunately, you couldn't get that done.
00:30And now with all of the shams and Windhorse stuff coming out and all these people like, oh, Jalen Brown
00:36should be pissed.
00:37Oh, where's Jason Tatum?
00:38All these different like you're just creating so much chaos by doing this and not getting that Giannis deal done.
00:45And I think that to me is the biggest issue.
00:47Whether you were in on Giannis or like if you were in on Giannis, you should have acquired Giannis, especially
00:52if you're going to offer up Jalen Brown.
00:54If you're not, then don't be throwing Jalen Brown's name around because you're just creating this maelstrom of, you know,
01:01news and media coverage that this team doesn't need.
01:04Like you're just I don't know.
01:06It's it's chaotic in a way.
01:07The Celtics have not been in quite some time.
01:09OK, you're calling it a disaster.
01:11Who do you blame?
01:12It has to be Brad Stevens.
01:13OK, and he was the executive of the year.
01:15He's done so many great things in the front office.
01:18Everybody makes a misstep every once in a while.
01:20I think he this is his first major misstep.
01:24Yeah, this is definitely a fumble in the bag.
01:26And that's why I can't wait to get to my league because I'm going to kind of piggyback off of
01:29some of Shyam's stuff.
01:30But there's some other things that to me, it doesn't, you know, always the saying is make it make sense.
01:37And something here is not making sense when Brad says, OK, here's what we need to do as an organization.
01:45OK, all right.
01:45Well, we will get to your lead coming up.
01:48And to sum that up, you called the Jalen Brown fiasco a disaster for the Celtics.
01:57That's correct.
01:58Correct, Greg.
01:58It's one of the most chaotic situations surrounding the Celtics in quite some time.
02:02OK, 781 Texter writes, could not disagree more with Shyam's lead.
02:09I guess when it comes to pointing the finger at Brad Stevens.
02:12Because Celtics are in this maelstrom, as you called it, Shyam, because of Jalen Brown and his moping, complaining and
02:23crying.
02:24What would you say to that?
02:25And then I know Wiggy has something to say because he's always on the athlete side.
02:29Jalen Brown's not the one who put his name out there in trade conversations and then didn't get the deal
02:33done.
02:34Like, you can you can have your feelings about Jalen Brown and that's fine.
02:38You can dislike Jalen Brown, but he's not the one who put his name out there in these trade talks
02:43and then didn't get the deal done.
02:45Preach.
02:45Just like young Dolph, man.
02:47Preach.
02:47It always goes back.
02:48I look to where did this all start from?
02:52Right.
02:52Where did the issue start from?
02:54And the issue started from the organization trying to trade Jalen Brown.
03:00For Kevin Durant.
03:01For Kevin Durant.
03:02All the way back there.
03:02Right.
03:03Because it always starts somewhere.
03:04All time great player, by the way.
03:05What a victim.
03:06Like, why would you not?
03:08If Kevin Durant is available, you would give everything you possibly have to get the guy.
03:14But go ahead.
03:14But that's where it all starts, right?
03:16All right.
03:16If you have, if you hold a, and I know Kevin Durant was a great player at the time, but
03:22you remember he was coming off of the Achilles.
03:24You know, he'd hurt himself.
03:25So there were a lot of people that were in the camp of Jalen Brown is showing that he could
03:30be at that level.
03:32So you didn't think the Celtics should have traded Jalen Brown?
03:34No, no, I think they should have.
03:36We're just talking about where did it all start.
03:38Right.
03:38Or maybe it just started that Jalen and Jason have had a great career together, and the Celtics are always
03:45looking to improve the roster.
03:47Yeah, but they're only trying to look to improve the roster with one guy.
03:50It starts somewhere, right?
03:51Anything in a relationship in life, Curtis, come on, don't act like you don't know.
03:55There's always a starting point on what ultimately made this issue arise.
04:02Right.
04:02For me, it was first.
04:03It doesn't come out of nowhere.
04:04But I know, I'm not saying it doesn't come out of nowhere, and I'm not saying he's not entitled to
04:08feel whatever he feels.
04:09I'm just saying, I'm so tired of him being so passive aggressive about all this.
04:17You have wanted to be traded.
04:18You had the worst loss in my lifetime as a Boston Celtic, and you said it was your favorite season
04:23over and over again.
04:24You make everything about yourself.
04:26You're on the duck boat with State Your Sources shirts on.
04:29I am exhausted by it.
04:31Go somewhere else and stop bitching making $70 million a year.
04:36But that wasn't the question.
04:37You have the right to feel that way, and a lot of people do feel that way.
04:40But the question was, or the text response to Shyam, and then it all comes back to, why are we
04:47here?
04:48And we're here because it started with the Celtics.
04:51It started when he got booed, if we're being honest.
04:52If you ask Jalen Brown, where are his issues here?
04:54He got booed on.
04:55He always played with a chip on his shoulder.
04:57That doesn't mean he doesn't like the organization.
05:00He's being turned into a monster, and it's everybody else's fault.
05:04No, I don't believe that.
05:05Do monsters usually do passive aggressive vague posting?
05:07I don't believe that he's not.
05:11I love cats.
05:13Weed into it as you will.
05:14I don't believe he doesn't have some culpability, but the question becomes where does it start?
05:18I'm hurt about Kevin Durant trades.
05:21If your wife treats you different throughout the relationship, and the reason why is because you cheated on her 20
05:27years ago, guess what?
05:29You know why it started that way?
05:30It's because of what you did.
05:32You might change who you become, but there's always going to be what you did that is going to stop
05:38the snowball down the mountain.
05:40I hate to break this to you, but it's pretty much a fact.
05:43Women always have a backup, and I don't care if it's Mrs. Wiggins.
05:50I don't care if it's DMs.
05:52They always have somebody in the back of their mind that is their backup go-to.
05:57That's cap.
05:59That is such cap.
06:00No, it's ask any woman.
06:02There are probably women listening to the show right now who will tell you that it's absolutely true.
06:05For me, it was Boston University.
06:06You have to be around those type of people in order for them to have a backup.
06:10I'm just telling you.
06:11I mean, let's be honest.
06:12Is she around somebody that you would go, hmm, okay.
06:15I'm just saying I have been told by women that they always have a backup.
06:21Yeah, that's because they're around people that they go, ooh, that'd be a good backup plan right there.
06:24If they're not around people that they look at and go, that'd be a good backup plan, then they're probably
06:30not going to have a backup.
06:31Well, they're always looking to upgrade, and that's all the Celtics are doing.
06:35All the Celtics are doing is looking to upgrade.
06:37But if there's nobody to upgrade to, then you're probably going to stick with the dude you got.
06:42Hold on a second.
06:43This is Frank from Woburn.
06:45Hello, Frank.
06:47Hi, guys.
06:48Good morning.
06:49What's up?
06:50I'm kind of sick of all the Brad Steven complaining and management.
06:54These guys are two making $100 million contracts.
06:58Why aren't they working it out?
07:00Why aren't they putting the team first?
07:02Why aren't they getting a clue from what New York's done and Brunson took lower, less money?
07:08Why are there so many prima donnas?
07:10And Wiggy, I remember you from East Boston.
07:12You guys were a team that worked together and played hard.
07:16So, you know, we've got to get back to the basics.
07:18Teamwork was first.
07:20Working hard was first.
07:22Complaining.
07:22When you were a kid, the complainers got booed off the team.
07:26It's who worked the hardest.
07:28You know, we've all got to grow up.
07:30We've got to get back to reality.
07:31Frank, and I agree with you, but I think the biggest thing, the difference between the Knicks and the Celtics
07:37is everybody knows their role.
07:40Right?
07:41And everybody buys it.
07:42Well, they accept it.
07:42And they buy in and accept it.
07:44They put this thing called the team above themselves.
07:46That's not true with Jalen Brown.
07:47And I agree with you on that.
07:49Okay.
07:49I totally, you and I don't disagree on that.
07:51So then why wouldn't you try to trade him?
07:53I'm not saying I would, but he's just pissed that they didn't get the Giannis deal.
07:57He says Brad should have got whatever it took to get Giannis.
08:00He should have done that.
08:01And now he's created a clusterfuck.
08:03Yeah.
08:03In your mind.
08:04In my mind.
08:04And part of my lead is about...
08:06Well, go ahead.
08:06Get right to it.
08:07Let's do it.
08:07Let's do it.
08:08So part of my lead is this.
08:09We talked about the Celtics odds coming out of the East, and they were the favorites.
08:14Brad said at that press conference that it's about winning championships.
08:19We're trying to win championships around here.
08:22So I'm all for you doing foot on the gas going to get Giannis, but you better get him.
08:29And now we're in a position where you can't tell me that same thing when you're saying,
08:35well, we're going to do everything in our power to trade Jalen Brown.
08:38Because, Shyam, you're the guy who knows gambling better than I do.
08:41The odds of you coming out of the East are because you have Jason and Jalen, correct?
08:46Yeah.
08:46Correct.
08:47So when you trade Jalen, are those odds of you coming out of the East going to still be at
08:53the top?
08:53No, because you are going to get a much lesser player than Jalen Brown.
08:58Well, you may get two or three players for Jalen Brown.
09:02But those two or three players are not going to equal up to what Jalen Brown is on the basketball
09:07court.
09:08So I don't care what it is you're going to get.
09:10You're not going to get what you have in Jalen.
09:13So if Brad Stevens tells me it's about winning championships and you went full foot to the gas on the
09:20pedal to get Giannis, you didn't.
09:23Now it should be how do we stroke Jalen's ego to get him to be like, all right, we need
09:31you to come back.
09:31I mean, Brad was talking the other day about the luxury of having two guys who you can generally count
09:38on to get you 40 a night together.
09:40Yes.
09:41Okay.
09:41So one of those guys, if you're going to lose his 20, you just got to make up for his
09:4620.
09:47But it doesn't work that way.
09:48And we know it doesn't work that way.
09:50So even if you went and you got Trey Murphy and a couple other pieces from New Orleans, you're still
09:57not going to –
09:58I guarantee your odds are going to plummet because it's not Jalen and Jason.
10:02Jalen and Jason are legitimately right now viewed as probably two top ten players in the NBA.
10:10You're not going to get that in return.
10:13You would have got it from Giannis, but now you're not.
10:15So the whole pivot thing with the Red Sox we talk about, if you're really forcing what you need to
10:20do to get Jalen out of here,
10:22then it ain't about winning championships because guess what?
10:24You're not making the team better.
10:26You're making the team worse if you trade Jalen Brown.
10:28And I'm not a huge Jalen fan over Giannis.
10:34I'm a Giannis over Jalen.
10:36Yeah, this is Eric from Weymouth.
10:38Hi, Eric.
10:39Hey, guys.
10:40How you doing?
10:41What's up?
10:42Hope to see you tonight.
10:43Oh, can't wait.
10:45Cannot wait.
10:47Yeah, so I want to just – I don't want to change the conversation, but I want to talk about
10:51Tatum and how –
10:52remember how Brady used to get so fired up behind the bench and fire up his team?
10:56Yeah.
10:56I just want to see more emotion from Tatum, and he seems so apathetic.
11:00I don't think you're – it's not his personality, and you're not going to – you're never going to get
11:04that from him.
11:05It's like Drake May.
11:06Drake May is not very emotional.
11:08Just certain guys, not that way.
11:10No, I don't think you're ever going to get that from Tatum, and I don't think he's going to weigh
11:14in.
11:14I guess he's not going to weigh in on Jalen Brown and the value that he feels he is to
11:22the Celtics organization, which is odd to me.
11:24Like, I keep waiting to wake up and go, oh, Jalen Brown has weighed in – I'm sorry, Jason Tatum
11:32has weighed in, finally, on what is going on with his buddy Jalen Brown.
11:37But I have –
11:37Nah, he's not going to do that.
11:39That's just not like his – and a lot of players –
11:42Well, what if – like, what if he responded this morning to Jalen Brown and he just said, I like
11:49dogs?
11:50Well, then we'd be reading into whatever the hell that means.
11:53And that would be something we could read into.
11:55Like, Jalen likes cats.
11:57Oh, you know what that means.
11:59But Jason likes dogs.
12:00See, if somebody says, I like cats, then my mind goes to, oh, what do cats mean?
12:04And then if you do enough digging, when people put up the cat emoji, you kind of know what that
12:08means.
12:08And then what if Derek White were to go to social media and say, I like parrots?
12:13I don't know.
