Today’s work, [The Water and Dreams], was written based on the masterpiece "Water and Dreams" (L'Eau et les Rêves) by the French philosopher Gaston Bachelard and his theory of "Complex Narcissism."
Bachelard viewed water as a "mirror of the world" and a "substance that purifies the soul." He explained that gazing into calm, mirror-like water is an act of expanding the ego rather than merely looking at oneself. Set against the backdrop of an infinity pool where the boundary between the infinite sea and the man-made structure vanishes, this project visualizes the aesthetics of the self completed upon that horizon.
In the video, the Muse, Luna, is not simply resting. Much like the state of narcissism described by Bachelard, she is projecting and confirming her own perfection amidst the crystalline water and dazzling sunlight. The contrast between the flawless white architecture and the deep blue water symbolizes the internal purity and overwhelming dignity she possesses.
The lyric "Mirror, Mirror, on the wave—The math of water and dreams" reinterprets a sensory phenomenon through an intellectual lens. Furthermore, the declaration "Narcissisme—Governing the surface with a single dominant gaze" sings of a sovereign being who becomes the center of the world to affirm her own brilliance.
Musically, the project adopts a sophisticated 118 BPM Alternative Pop and Minimal House style. The harmony of transparent synth pads and heavy sub-bass aurally recreates the endless horizon and the deep silence beneath the water's surface.
A moment of pure focus on oneself atop a transparent surface where the world's noise has been washed away.
