00:00All right, here we go, one hour down.
00:02B. Scott is in with somebody just texted.
00:04B. Scott, the best, love it when he joins the best afternoon show
00:09on the best station in the nation, Sports Radio 610.
00:13I hope whoever that is gets some tonight.
00:16Me too.
00:18And you know what I'm talking about.
00:20Yeah.
00:22I certainly do.
00:24I hope you get some every night that you seek it.
00:28Come on now.
00:29Specifically tonight.
00:32Yeah.
00:33Yeah.
00:34And then you can join the show just like our partner there did,
00:39YouTube and Twitch as well.
00:41Text line 713-572-4610.
00:43There is a heated debate between Five Slamma Gemma Forever
00:47and Jordan Alexander that Crane did not destroy the team.
00:52What a moronic comment.
00:55As Rocky said, Crane single-handedly ruined the team.
00:59Jordan Alexander chimes in.
01:00Crane and Dana Brown are a joke.
01:04So you guys are on YouTube.
01:06I see you, Joel.
01:07It's a fun one.
01:08It's Chewy over there on Twitch.
01:11But the Astros, they are about to get going here soon.
01:14And you can stay right here.
01:15We'll keep you updated on what's happening as they look to –
01:19they've got to win this one to try to win another series.
01:22So they've won three in a row.
01:24They'll try to win today behind Peter Lambert.
01:27He gets the ball.
01:28Six and four, 3.23 ERA has been a savior for this group, to be honest with you.
01:34The lineup is out.
01:36There is no Jeremy Pena.
01:37Pena left the game yesterday with cramps, he said.
01:42But in the report today coming out, Jeremy Pena will go through and did go through the full pregame workout
01:51and could be available off the bench today, according to his manager, Private Joe Espada.
01:58That is the latest there with Jeremy Pena.
02:00So he starts off on the bench.
02:03The lineup in his place, Altuve leading off and playing second.
02:07Jordan is the DH.
02:08Christian Walker behind him at first, Paredes at third, Diaz is catching today.
02:15And in right field, Cam Smith, Taylor Trammell, who let that 94-mile-an-hour fastball
02:20just come right down the middle to end the game yesterday without a swing.
02:23He is in left field.
02:25And then Matthews, Bryce is in center today.
02:28And then we'll see Delgado for the first time at shortstop, I believe.
02:31So that is the lineup today.
02:33We'll keep you updated as we continue.
02:37But the Astros seeking to get a dub and even up this series in Toronto today, a little bit here
02:44on The Drive.
02:45All right, let's talk about the Texans.
02:48All right, we haven't talked about the Texans yet today.
02:51And I came across this yesterday, Kevin Carter, Mina Kimes on ESPN.
02:56And they were discussing the AFC South, and they were discussing which teams are good enough to potentially get to
03:03a Super Bowl from the AFC South.
03:07Here is their thoughts on your Houston Texans.
03:12I think it's one team, and it's the Texans.
03:14Fair.
03:15Because I think that the Texans are the defensive version of the Bengals, which is we know you're going to
03:21be top three on one side of the ball.
03:22Yeah.
03:22Just like the Seahawks.
03:24And I wonder if C.J. Stroud just can't be Sam Darnold next year.
03:29Don't turn the ball over in the playoff in January.
03:31Sam Darnold did turn the ball over in another season.
03:33He didn't do it in January.
03:34All you have to do, let me ask you this question.
03:38If C.J. Stroud is the 14th best quarterback in the NFL this year, do the Texans win the Super
03:44Bowl?
03:44I don't think so, because I think there's a couple teams in the NFC that are still better, but they're
03:49in the mix.
03:51I like it.
03:53No notes.
03:54I agree.
03:55Good talk.
03:56The arrows pointed up.
03:57You agree with what?
03:587-1-3-5-7-2-4-6-10.
04:00YouTube and Twitch, let me set this up as I try.
04:04Do you think the Texans, because we can go to the quarterbacking and even add the offense in that.
04:10Do you think the Texans can win a Super Bowl, get to a Super Bowl, have me jumping out of
04:16an airplane with the 14th best quarterback?
04:19Average, kind of a little bit slightly above average.
04:23I think the group can get to a Super Bowl, win a Super Bowl, if they have that kind of
04:29play from C.J. Stroud.
04:30Yeah, they could have done it last year.
04:31It's literally what was happening.
04:34What we were in the midst of last year before we had a bottom third quarterback type of performance in
04:43that final game that they played against New England.
04:45But that's essentially what they were.
04:46And this conversation, again, as you set it up, was framed around teams in the AFC South.
04:51But they definitely have that opposite Bengals vibe that Kevin Clark was talking about.
04:58Like, hey, we can rely on the defense.
05:00It's going to be a top three unit.
05:01It's going to be a top three defense more than likely.
05:04But we're a little bit unsure on what the offense is going to look like.
05:08Is it going to be a bottom third or is it going to be at the bottom end of the
05:11top third?
05:12Right?
05:12Like, as he's saying, right, if you could just beat a 14th best quarterback, I think that that's true.
05:18Right?
05:18Like, C.J. Stroud, I think C.J. Stroud could be better than that.
05:21That's part of the angst with him.
05:23It's like we've seen the potential from his rookie year.
05:26But you're at a space now where how the team is built where he doesn't have to be an MVP
05:32caliber player necessarily.
05:34He just has to not turn the ball over and make a few plays similar to how Sam Darnold did.
05:39And this team could win a Super Bowl or at least be in a Super Bowl in a similar fashion
05:44to the way that Seattle just was this past season.
05:47I'm intrigued.
05:48Tyler Milner, 713-572-416, YouTube and Twitch.
05:51Do you think C.J. Stroud can be the 14th best quarterback?
05:56That's right, just slightly above average.
06:00That's around the average range.
06:03He could be the 14th best quarterback in this team, get to a Super Bowl, and represent the AFC.
06:11I do.
06:11I do.
06:12I think that's very possible.
06:14Now it's just a matter of what we see it.
06:15No, no, I didn't say possible.
06:16Do you think?
06:17They can, yes.
06:18Okay.
06:18Yes, I believe that the offense could do enough with quarterback and C.J. Stroud performing at a 14th-ish
06:24ranked level amidst his peers, the other throwers around the league.
06:28I believe they could absolutely do that, yes.
06:30If this defense is all that we think it can be, which is historical, yes.
06:35Like, is this basically the question being, is this the formula?
06:38Like, do they need him to be even better than that?
06:40Is this defense good enough for him to be average and get to a Super Bowl?
06:46Yes.
06:46It was last year.
06:48It was last year.
06:49I do not believe, for me, that I'm going to take what we saw last year as a normal occurrence.
06:58I think last year was a really unique season, especially in the AFC, that you just, and I personally don't
07:10know if we've just reached a changing of the guard now, and that, you know, Denver, New England, Jacksonville are
07:18going to be, and Houston are going to be, like, they've switched and going to be running the AFC.
07:24To me, I think we get to a more normal potential look of the AFC, and I think it'll be
07:39a little bit more difficult.
07:40We talked about this yesterday.
07:41I don't know that we will see where a quarterback can run through Justin Herbert, C.J. Stroud, and Jarrett
07:51Stenum on their route to the Super Bowl to face Sam Darnold in it.
07:56I don't, like, that's not the normal occurrence to me that you're generally going to have to run into a
08:03bona fide Hall of Famer, if not multiple ones, when you're looking at this conference in the AFC.
08:09And I think C.J.'s going to have to be better than just average.
08:15I think the Texans can win playoff games.
08:20Do I think they can win three?
08:22Do I think that they can go and beat three top quarterbacks, two top quarterbacks in a playoff run with
08:32C.J. being, like, they're that difference of a drop-off?
08:37Because, like, I mean, we just got to keep it a buck right here.
08:40They gave up three full-field touchdown drives to the New England Patriots, Drake May, and that skill group that
08:48we talked about yesterday, that there's probably some better skill groups that they're going to run into in the AFC
08:55this year.
08:57I think this defense has a chance to be special.
09:00But I think your quarterback play on most normal seasons, when you have the potential to have to run through
09:06Mahomes, Lamar, Allen, Burrow, Drake is coming along, these guys in the AFC.
09:15And the part is, your quarterback is capable of being better than 14, which I think is another whole different
09:22thing of it.
09:24But quarterback play has to be in the ballpark of those top quarterbacks in most seasons.
09:30And if it's not, I just don't know that the defense – this has got to be Ravens-level defense
09:36for that to happen.
09:38Yeah, and I truly actually believe that it is.
09:41Like, I agree with everything that you were saying about it being different, but the thing that I think is
09:46most repeatable and that was not flukish –
09:49like, everything that happened last year was flukish with the Kansas City Chiefs having a down year, the Ravens not
09:54making the playoffs.
09:55Like, there was a lot of flukish stuff.
09:57I didn't feel like the Texans' defense itself was flukish.
10:00I think it's something that they can replicate and it's something that I feel like has gotten even better than
10:06it was last year.
10:07So I think it's legitimate that that is going to be one of the more dominant units on either side
10:12of the ball in football.
10:14And so, like, I think that's going to kind of correct itself.
10:16Like, Patrick Mahomes now, different from previous years, is not going to have to deal with this version of the
10:22Texans' defense.
10:23And it would be the same way for Lamar Jackson.
10:25I think this would be the toughest Texans' defense that he would have faced in this D'Amico Ryan's era.
10:31So I think all of that is going to work itself out as well.
10:34And with C.J. Stroud, look, you could be right, man.
10:36Maybe he does have to be better than average, but the point is more so less about C.J. and
10:41more about the defense itself.
10:43And also, how they're trying to play offense.
10:46Like, is C.J. going to even be allowed to be great?
10:49Like, how much are they going to –
10:50That's a scary part.
10:51How much are they going to even –
10:51That is a scary part.
10:53But the thing is, though, that could be a formula.
10:56The problem with it is now you're relying on this offensive line and David Montgomery to be, you know,
11:04whatever, 90s Cowboys or whatever it is, type of run game.
11:06Like, are you going to get that?
11:07That I don't necessarily feel as confident in.
11:10But, like, something's got to give.
11:12Somebody does have to be elite.
11:13Whether it's C.J., the run game, or –
11:16Like, they got to find a thing.
11:17That was a big problem with them last year was they had no identity.
11:20They couldn't really throw it.
11:21They couldn't really run it.
11:23All they could really do was possess it.
11:24They couldn't really do much else.
11:26Yeah, they were strong before those two playoff games at not turning the ball over during the regular season up
11:33to that point.
11:33They were strong at that, and then they started to turn the ball over.
11:36So, this is what I'm saying.
11:37If you're telling me that –
11:38Can C.J. be average, and can the run game be average, and then with an excellent defense?
11:45Yeah, I think that could be a formula.
11:46And if you're telling me that that's going to be the playoff field, that's going to be the level playoff
11:51field, yes, they can do it.
11:53They can do it.
11:55I mean, it might be.
11:56But each – but just think about Tyler and Brandon, the routes that they've had to make these years that
12:04they've ran their heads up.
12:05It's just – not just this year.
12:07Like, every – you've all been here.
12:09Every time they keep running their head into this divisional round.
12:12At first, it was, they've got to try to run through Manning, Brady, Ben.
12:18Yeah.
12:18Like, it's somewhere – and then that weird Ravens team with Joe Flacco, like, somewhere they're running their heads against
12:28those teams.
12:29And now it has been they've run their head against Lamar.
12:32They've run their head against Mahomes in the playoffs.
12:35They've had to – if you're going to tell me this year, hey, man, you might get to get a
12:38run of 100-year-old Aaron Rodgers, Drake May, and Jarrett Stenum.
12:42You might have done it.
12:43Oh, yeah.
12:45The unpredictability of the league, I think, is something that you –
12:48Well, what I'm saying is, would you have predicted that Sam Darnold would ever win a Super Bowl?
12:53That's what I'm saying.
12:53Like, you can kind of look at trends and think about it.
12:56Here's the thing.
12:56The Texans in a vacuum, is this team good enough?
12:59How do they measure up against a fully healthy Chiefs team, a fully healthy Ravens team, a fully healthy Bills
13:04team?
13:05We've watched them own them, at least here in Houston, over the last couple of years.
13:08They are right there in the thick of it.
13:10If C.J. Stroud plays at a certain level and they have all of these other things come together for
13:15them offensively,
13:16I think that is the big question.
13:17But does the offense have to be 20-23 good necessarily for them to win?
13:23No, because the defense is as good as it is.
13:25It just can't be what it turned into in Foxborough in the divisional run.
13:31Yeah, I think C.J. has to be able to play with those other quarterbacks that I think he's probably
13:39going to be likely to face.
13:41I think he's going to have to, if they're in a run, like maybe C.J. can play.
13:49I mean, that's different.
13:51Like in a run is different from being the, like would you say, where was Sam Darnold this past year?
13:57I think that's why they used it.
13:59Sam was like the 14th best quarterback.
14:01Exactly, but then on his run, he was much better than that.
14:04Yeah, he had the ability to play the big game that he had to have against Matthew Stafford and the
14:14Rams.
14:14So could he be the 14th best quarterback in the league and then just go on a special run in
14:19the playoffs,
14:19a la Joe Flacco or Sam Darnold?
14:24Absolutely, all that is in play.
14:25No, I'm not saying it's not possible.
14:28I'm not, like I'm not, and I'm not saying it's not in play.
14:31To me, though, if you're holding me down, I'm like, can he just be about,
14:36just basically an average quarterback for this team to get to a Super Bowl?
14:39Is it possible?
14:40Yeah, it's possible.
14:41You don't know how the field works out.
14:43But to me, if he has to run through the quarterback, I don't want to just say he,
14:47if the Texans have to run through the quarterbacks in some of the offenses
14:52that they potentially may have to run through, I think he's got to be better than that.
15:00I felt like it goes without saying that you've got to raise your level of play in the playoffs.
15:04I think everybody kind of has to step it up.
15:07But if he is just functionally thought of as a middling quarterback and then steps it up,
15:16like that could be a formula.
15:18Like, yeah, is he going to have to make plays?
15:20Is he going to be able to be average?
15:21No, I think all of those average quarterbacks that we talk about did kind of have a special run
15:25in the playoffs, but he's that type of quarterback, right?
15:28Like he's a player that could easily go on a run.
15:30But like, yeah, like last year, he could have been just cool.
15:36I just don't know that that's going to be the path because it's just not a normal path you've seen.
15:43Like, I mean, Drake was just cool his last game and a half.
15:49He was just cool, to be honest with you, against the Chargers.
15:53They only scored three points.
15:55He only had to score, what, it was 16-3 in that game?
15:59Look, I think the Bengals are a perfect example of a team that went to the Super Bowl,
16:02however many years ago, and then this is the playoffs for three years.
16:06Would I have predicted that?
16:07Like, I don't know.
16:08Like, I'm just, I don't think that I'm as willing to have just the kind of the premise of,
16:13hey, it's just going to be much harder this next year than it was the year before.
16:16Maybe it will, maybe it won't.
16:17But this team in and of itself, I think it can compete with either version of that.
16:21Yeah, the likelihood that Burrow, Lamar, and Mahomes all missed the playoffs in one season.
16:30But you're going against Burrow and Lamar's defense, and your defense is going up against them.
16:35You know what I'm saying?
16:36I get it.
16:37Yeah, I know it.
16:38I'm not, like, really.
16:40And I think the Texans' defense is great.
16:42I think those teams can score some points,
16:45just like we watched Drake May score 21 points on full drives with that offense last year
16:51in the playoffs against this amazing defense, which it is.
16:54I'm not saying that to be an ass.
16:56It is amazing.
