00:00This is one of the most terrified dogs we've ever taken in. From the moment we rescued Cindy it was
00:05obvious something wasn't right. She won't approach us, she won't relax, she barely even exists in the
00:11space and honestly we have no idea if she'll ever feel confident again or if adoption is even
00:17possible. So this is what we've walked into. Thank you to Better Wild for sponsoring this video.
00:25When we first picked up Cindy we couldn't have gotten off to a worse start. It took us
00:29about 10 minutes to even get her into the house because she was so scared. Instead of me going in
00:34first because she might be more scared she's terrified. And she basically hasn't even interacted
00:38with our dogs Kobe and Moki yet. And in the morning of day two things got off to a tough
00:43start.
00:44We're just going to ignore Cindy. We're not going to make a big deal of the fact that it's the
00:48morning
00:48now. The plan is to try and get her outside this morning. So we want to get her outside and
00:54this
00:54is much easier said than done. First going to do a test to see how stressed she is by just
00:59offering
00:59her treat. See if she eats it. That's really good. She does. We ended up using a mixture of some
01:04light
01:05pulls on her handle and some treats to get her out her crate. And now she's finally going to go
01:09outside and be with Kobe and Moki to properly socialise. Kobe she's scaring her. Let's put the
01:17lead on her because she's quite scared. Come on. That's good. Go on. No. Out. You're cornering her.
01:22Out squad. Right. You come out. She's coming. Yeah. Well. Kobe Moki come on. Stop cornering her.
01:28Kobe come. Come on Cindy. Come on. Come on Moki. Good girl. No. Kobe no no no. Not the growling.
01:36She's going to get scared. Right. That's really good. So I guess this is the first time they're
01:39properly meeting. She seems pretty up bothered. She seemed to be doing really well. When we rescued
01:45her yesterday we kept her on lead the entire time because she's a big flight risk in a new environment.
01:50But today we're going to let her free roam for the first time. So we've still got the lead on
01:55her
01:55in case she shuts down and goes into a corner. So what we want to do is kind of just
02:00give her a
02:01bit of distance because apparently she's not that confident even being in a garden. We want her to
02:06understand like this is her safe space. Like it's okay. Oh my god she's following us. Oh my god she's
02:11following us. Wow. We honestly thought she'd take herself off and shut down but the fact she followed us
02:19shows there's a chance we can save her. This is the most interaction she had with our dogs yesterday
02:25and now look how much more comfortable she looks now. Oh look at her even going near Moki. She's like
02:31yeah I'm fine. She then followed us to come back inside but did shut down again and spent the entire
02:37day in her crate. So in day three we had a plan to try and help build her confidence. So
02:42the reason we
02:43have put a bunch of random items there is to try and help build her confidence. Now luckily for us
02:48she is treat motivated. So what we have put down there is some treats alongside some better wild
02:53allergy relief supplements. So the goal here is simply to get her exploring around new things.
02:59This builds confidence and the fact she's already doing it is a great sign. So as you guys know we
03:04rescue a lot of dogs. A lot of them will come with issues such as itching, ear issues or red
03:09skin.
03:10You can see we've like closed off her crate because we really want her to engage with everything.
03:14So we use better wild on all of our rescues. They're supplements which supports allergy defense
03:20helps reduce itching and scratching so it's perfect for... She's just taking a spoon.
03:27Oh she's eating the spoon. Okay she's stopped. It's perfect for our rescues.
03:34She's being really brave engaging with all this stuff which is just exactly what we want. It also
03:38helps strengthen digestion and gut health. These can also be really helpful because a lot of the
03:43rescues do have sensitive stomachs. So we make sure that we've always got our better wild supplements
03:48at our hand. They're science backed and vet approved. She's a bit unsure what to do. There is still some
03:53treats like around there. So we'll just wait and see if she engages again. These are really good
03:57because they've got ingredients such as colostrum for immunity support and salmon oil for skin and coat
04:02too. So she looks a bit unsure at the moment. So we'll keep an eye on her and if she
04:07doesn't want to
04:07engage anymore then we'll simply take some stuff away. So better wild is scientifically proven to help
04:12strengthen your dog's gut and help build up their immune system. At this point Cindy had stopped
04:17showing interest. So we took out some items put down some more better wild supplements and let's
04:22see if she goes back to it. She looks like she's gone back to everything which is really good. She's
04:26really engaging which is great. So you can click the link in the description or scan the qr code on
04:31screen for an exclusive offer. Use code golden kobe at checkout. Thank you better wild for helping support
04:37all of our rescues. We continued building her confidence by swapping different items and she
04:42did so well but it took a lot of courage for her to do that. She did eventually go off
04:47into her crate
04:48so we thought of an idea to try and help her unwind. We have got a lick mat for her.
04:54Lick mats are
04:55incredible for helping to relieve stress and anxiety. You can see she isn't going to go near the lick mat
05:01whilst we're here but the plan is to kind of section her off so that she's got her own space.
05:07We set up a tripod and left her to it. You can see she goes over to the lick mat,
05:11has a sniff but
05:12left it alone. She clearly still needs a lot more confidence building. Later that day she follows
05:17Moki and comes out her crate but just isn't brave enough yet to wander around. We've still got a lot
05:22of
05:22work to do. So it's the next morning. Let's see if Cindy is feeling braver today after a good night's
05:29sleep. She's had a little drink. We're thinking she may need the toilet so we're gonna put these
05:33dogs out and then see how we get on. Good dogs and shall we step out? Yeah. We're gonna step
05:38out and
05:39we'll see if she follows. Come on Cindy. I wouldn't even say her name. There's no chance she's gonna
05:43follow but let's give it a go. We're trying to get Cindy used to a routine of going outside in
05:47the
05:47morning. There's no doubt she needs the toilet but will she come out her crate without our help?
05:52Okay we are outside. She's looking. She didn't come out. We ended up having to help her out her
05:58crate again but we think if we keep doing this eventually she will come out her crate by herself.
06:04The good news is that once she's in the garden she's brave enough to explore. Good girl Cindy.
06:09So we're just gonna act like this is completely normal. We've just taken her out for a wee again.
06:12There she goes. It's funny because when she comes out the crate she's good.
06:18Okay so what we're looking for is a wee. Looks like she's having a sniff to go. We're so obsessed
06:22with
06:23getting her outside and going toilet because she still had accidents in her crate at the rescue we got
06:28her from. So we're really trying to hone in on her toilet training. Kobe's with her to give her a
06:33bit
06:33of emotional support. And there it is. A wee. A wild wee. Yes. Good girl Cindy. Our plan today is
06:41to try
06:41and get her to feel more comfortable around us. What better way to do this than treats? And after
06:46we bribed her she actually started to show a bit of progress.
06:54We hoped that her being with our calm confident dogs would help give her some confidence and it
06:59seems like it's working. She's coming over. She really likes Kobe. She really likes Kobe. I think
07:05she's following him. It may not seem like much but taking cues from Kobe could really help her come
07:11out of her shell over time. She's even starting to show a bit of interest in Ella too. She follows
07:16me.
07:16She's following me quite a lot actually. I've just done a walk up the garden and she's following me.
07:23She wants to be right by me. Wow. Look how close we are. Good girl darling. Trying a good old
07:31sniff.
07:32How great is she being? We had a great morning but this is how quickly things can change with a
07:37scared
07:37dog. Oh sorry darling. Sorry. When she came back inside this is the position she took for most of
07:44the day. But after lots of rest she ate dinner and then she did this. She's exploring more isn't she?
07:51Ella's eating salmon. Listen what works works. If she wants to come out because she can smell salmon
07:58that's fine. Is she gonna go back into her crate now? It's alright. She did good. That was literally
08:03the first time she explored the house. It was only for about 10 seconds but hey we take it. But
08:08then
08:09that night she showed a completely different side to her. I checked all the cameras. Honestly no idea
08:18what she's barking at but glad to see she's found it. So a few days had passed. We started off
08:23this
08:23morning giving Kobe a better wild supplement and then Cindy shows the huge progress she's made. So
08:29we have now gotten to a stage where if we want to put Cindy outside we don't need to grab
08:34our handle
08:34anymore. Watch this. What we do. Come on make it out. Come on. Because I just open this door. I
08:40come
08:40outside. I bet you now we've turned the camera on she's not gonna do it. And then usually she now
08:47comes out of her crate. And there she goes. And now she's outside. So she does kind of like leg
08:55it when
08:56she comes out of the crate and she's a bit scared. But the fact that she's coming out by herself
09:00and will
09:00explore by herself with all of our dogs as well is great. You can see her shaking off some stress
09:05there. And she's free to go to the toilet. There you go. Sniff the air. So she's learning. She's
09:11getting there. She's getting into a bit of a routine which is great. So you can see Cindy waiting
09:16there with Kobe to come back in. And then I open the door. She comes running in like a torpedo
09:25and goes into a crate. She also hasn't had a single accident since her first night. So we can
09:31now safely say she's toilet trained. We then had an idea. What if we both go upstairs and leave all
09:37the cameras running? Will she be brave enough to explore if no one's there? She's sniffing the air
09:42maybe to try and see if she can get our scent. Very cautiously steps out her crate. Has a sniff
09:48around and then settles. But she didn't stop there. She then leaves her little area. Goes onto the fluffy
09:55rug. Watch this little tail wag. She must have thought oh this is quite comfy. Because she wags
10:01her tail again and rolls onto her side. We've got such a soft spot for her. She's so stinking cute.
10:07She looked so comfy. We didn't come down for hours just so she could have a good rest. But then
10:13it got
10:13us thinking. We're getting Kobe and Moki ready to take them out on a walk. She's never been
10:18fully left alone before. With no dogs in the house either. So how will she react then?
10:24Oh she's there. She's well curious. She's really curious. She's looking at everything we're doing.
10:29So it'll be interesting how much she explores when we're gone. But she looks like she wants to come
10:33with us. I know she won't. But this curiosity is really good. Because hopefully it means that there's
10:38a chance we may actually eventually be able to walk her. And she can come with these two. So whilst
10:42we
10:42are walking the dogs. Let's see what Cindy gets up to when she's by herself. She hasn't
10:48gone back to her crate which is good. She's stress panting a bit. And just looking a bit
10:52confused. Until she finally decided to move. And made this noise.
10:59Yes that was a little cry. I think she may have a bit of separation anxiety. She was looking
11:05out the window. And you can see did go off to explore a bit.
11:09Watching this back. I don't think she's actually exploring. I think she's stressed and she's
11:14unsure what to do. But how would she act when we came back?
11:18Okay we've just come back. So she's still looking scared. Doesn't look all that happy
11:22that we're back. Let's see if she wants to go out. Here she is. Go on there Cindy.
11:27Is she going to come past me or is she too scared? I did think she'd be a bit braver
11:30and happy to see
11:31us. I think she wants to be confident. She just needs help getting there.
11:35Got an idea if I go out. I think she'll come out. Come on Cindy. Okay let's see if she'll
11:39come out now.
11:40Yes there she goes. Good girl. Hello. Oh. So she does still need a lot of work.
11:47But she is starting to look more and more comfortable with our dogs. Which is great.
11:51Oh she's having a sniff of Kobe. She's like where have you been?
11:54We're trying to rescue so many more dogs just like Cindy this year. And if you hit that subscribe
11:59button you guys will be massively helping out. If we could get to 1 million subscribers by the end
12:05of the year that would be insane. I also got this heartwarming clip of Cindy just
12:10absolutely legging it in the garden. It's so nice to see glimpses of her personality.
12:16So I'm just currently making some food. And this one has decided to lay in the lounge.
12:21Usually she sees me and runs off. But even just doing this is some really really good progress.
12:26Moki looks a bit unsure. I was about to say good girl Cindy but I don't want to pay her
12:32any
12:32attention. But that's really really good. And her little brave spell didn't stop there.
12:36So I'm eating some chicken. And look who's decided she's brave enough to just come out
12:40of her crate. Have a quick look. And then go back in. She's exploring a lot more.
12:48No. I think her paws are making too loud of a noise. I shouldn't have spoken because I think
12:53I've scared her back off into the crate. Small baby steps but we're getting there.
12:56It then came to the evening time. We are making a point of watching Netflix every single night
13:02because we just want her to get used to some kind of routine. Scared dogs like her love routine and
13:08even though it seems so simple of literally just watching Netflix it means that she gets to spend
13:13some quality time in her safe space whilst we get to just chill out on the sofa so she can
13:19feel safe
13:19to wander around whilst we just chill. She had a great night's sleep and the next morning we had an
13:25idea
13:25to help her de-stress even more. So we have got another lick mat here for her. Yesterday the other
13:32lick mat that we gave her was frozen. She kind of went up to it had a little sniff and
13:36then left it.
13:37And so we're thinking she probably hasn't had anything frozen before so she was a little bit
13:41confused by the texture. So this time we have got a lick mat that isn't frozen and it's got her
13:46food on
13:46her that we know she eats and that she likes. I'm going to put this in here for her and
13:51then we're
13:51gonna close this off so she feels safe. So we have stepped out from the lounge we just set a
13:56camera
13:56up on a tripod you can see here we're kind of like in the kitchen so she's just got some
14:00space to
14:01be able to hopefully go for the lick mat. And I can happily report she did end up absolutely housing
14:06down the lick mat. We're really happy about this because it's such a good way to calm a dog but
14:11we
14:11weren't going to stop there. We decided to see if she would progress again on the confidence game.
14:17So we are going to put down the same things that we did. I set everything up again exactly the
14:24same
14:24as before but this time nothing. She completely shut down and hid in the corner and that's when
14:30it really hit us. We can't do this alone. So in the next video with Cindy we're bringing in a
14:35professional dog behaviorist to really help her feel safe and confident again. Make sure you're
14:40subscribed so you don't miss it. We're not giving up on her. If you enjoyed this why not watch another?
14:46YouTube thinks this video right here is perfect for you to watch next. Give it a tap or a click
14:50and I'll see you there.
