00:00Former CLANG MP Charles Santiago has called for a review of the Gig Workers Act
00:06to better protect delivery riders from extreme heat.
00:10He said rising temperatures should be treated as an occupational health hazard,
00:15not just ordinary weather or a personal issue.
00:18In a Facebook post, he said many delivery riders continue working
00:23despite heat-related symptoms because their income depends on completing jobs.
00:28Santiago was commenting on a survey by a news portal involving 51 delivery riders.
00:34The survey found that 90% reported hotter working conditions
00:38with many experiencing headaches, dizziness and fatigue while on the job.
00:45He urged platforms such as Grab and Foodpanda to introduce mandatory rest breaks,
00:50heat alerts, safe waiting areas and allow riders to pause work without penalties.
