00:00Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Tiong King Singh told the Day One Rakyat Today
00:05that the three-day Rain Rave Water Music Festival generated an estimated RM392.23 million in economic returns.
00:15He was responding to a question from Bentong MP Yang Shafura Othman
00:19on the festival's contribution to Malaysia's tourism sector.
00:23Tiong said the Kuala Lumpur event alone brought in RM320 million
00:27while programs in six other states added RM71.9 million.
00:33Altogether, the festival, which ran from April 30th to May 2nd,
00:37drew about 415,000 visitors nationwide.
00:41Tiong said the RM15 million program produced RM36 in returns for every ringgit spent.
00:47Critics, however, claimed that up to RM75 million in ticket sales
00:50was lost as entry to the festival was free.
00:53Retailers reported sharp gains, with Lot 10 seeing a 40% rise in visitors
00:58and Pavilion's F&B sales up 11%,
01:01while international exposure was valued at RM77.5 million.
01:06The minister said strong private sector involvement amplified the impact,
01:10with shopping malls, hotels and tourism operators reporting higher sales and occupancy.
01:16Tiong said the program successfully balanced international entertainment
01:20with Malaysian cultural identity through traditional music,
01:23cultural fashion shows, heritage food and local performances.
