00:00When of your game this year, obviously it's really on the uptick.
00:03I think you got to be one of the hottest players coming in to this US Open.
00:07Can we talk a little bit just about just the swing journey you've been on over the
00:11last couple of years could tell that you've been working on it.
00:14It felt like you were getting more and more confidence as the year has gone on.
00:17Just speak about just what feels so good over the golf ball right now for you.
00:23So what was it just in 20 end of 22?
00:26I went no swing coach, just went solo and was one of the best things I've ever done.
00:32I owned my swing, just played golf, wasn't playing golf swing and obviously had an amazing
00:3823-24 season.
00:39Kind of at the end of 24 I started losing my ball striking a little bit and then in 25
00:44it was terrible and you know people are like how could you let that off you're a tour pro.
00:49I didn't know exactly what I was looking for.
00:51I knew my feels and so if I was pulling it I'd work on trying to get pushes.
00:55If I was hooking it I would fade it vice versa.
00:58Well in that I got a lot of bad habits and so when I switched to my new coach Pat
01:02he just
01:03said hey in 23 your swing looked amazing, here's what it looked like, I'd like to bring it back
01:08to that and that's our first goal and then as we do that we can get better and improve
01:12it.
01:12So which obviously sounds simple.
01:14But in you know we were talking about it, I was getting really long, too much lag and
01:20it was hard to time.
01:21So we got shorter, more width and that's kind of been the thing we've really been focusing
01:25on and just over a short time I've really gained a ton of confidence with my irons.
01:30The driver's been getting there, that's probably been the toughest adjustment but my iron play
01:34has gotten significantly better.
01:36And just your irons, you know I think a lot of people associate you being a fader of the
01:40golf ball.
01:41With your irons, is that something, do you feel like you have more shots now that you're
01:45in a better position at the top and maybe have just a little bit more shots in your arsenal
01:50if you will?
01:51Oh for sure.
01:51I would say, you know let's say in 23, gosh I probably faded 90% of my shots and this
01:59year
02:00my strokes gain approach has gone up significantly.
02:03I even had two tournaments back to back where I was number one, which I've never done in
02:06my life.
02:07And I've been able to hit draws into wins, straight balls, big cuts, small cuts, I never
02:15used to have that, I was kind of one dimensional and now I have so many more shots.
02:19Okay, so this is the part of the game, the equipment part that I need to talk about, putter
02:23tinkering.
02:23I think the first time you were on this show, I told you I had like an OG jailbird with
02:29lead tape on the bottom and you were like, hey, could I maybe get that off you?
02:32So here's the journey as far as I can tell, you might have to correct me here.
02:36Oh boy, this is going to be ugly.
02:372020, I think it's actually a beautiful journey for all of us who are out there at Tinkers,
02:40I kind of love this.
02:41Some might call it a perfect storm.
02:432023 US Open, LACC OG jailbird of course went there, then made a zillion feet of putts
02:48at the 2024 AT&T with, I think it was the AI jailbird at that point.
02:51Yeah, a little different jailbird, shorter.
02:53Shorter, okay.
02:54Then we went to LabDF3, then I need you to explain this a little bit because I saw that you
02:58had a super
02:59stroke grip installed upside down at the 2026 AT&T this year.
03:03That was definitely deep into the abyss of club equipment, psycho-ness, however I can describe it.
03:13Then we buy a Betanardi antidote off the rack at your home club.
03:17Yep.
03:17Then we have, we're testing a Scotty Newport 2 with a custom neck weld.
03:22Yep.
03:22And then we end up in the Ping Scottsdale Tech Ally Blue onset that you just hooped with
03:27to win at the Byron Nelson.
03:28So can, can you both, can you explain both the equipment journey, but also how that factor
03:33into any sort of setup technique, things you've done to putt as well as you are right now?
03:37Yeah.
03:37So it's so funny because everyone goes, why don't you just go back to the jailbird?
03:41I go, I would have never switched if I made every putt.
03:44That's how it works.
03:45Yes.
03:45I'm like, I putted poorly for eight, nine months.
03:49And so then you start tinkering and then you go back to it and you're like, God, it just
03:52doesn't feel the same.
03:53Yeah.
03:54So I switched to the lab and it was, it was good for whatever that time it was.
03:59And then it went away and then I was messing around with everything.
04:03And then when I got to Ally Blue with the onset, I mean, that putter has been obviously lights
04:09out.
04:10And for me, the first thing that I loved was kind of the aiming part of it.
04:14Um, and I first started off with like a 34, 35 inches kind of standard putter.
04:20And I use that for two weeks.
04:21And then at the RBC, I went kind of to the old jail jail jail jailbird feeling of 36 and
04:28a half counterbalance lead tape on the bottom.
04:31Okay.
04:32And, uh, and so now it's kind of a similar look or similar feel, but with, you know,
04:38the, the ping Scottsdale tech and everything.
04:40And it's, it's gosh, it's, it's been, it's been hot.
04:43I like that.
04:43I like that.
