00:00oh 189 yards on the ground from back tee and i just think yeah it's it's just such a good
00:06i think
00:07the coolest thing about this to me is i just want to pause it here is like you have two
00:11of the
00:12greatest golf courses in the world that are literally next door literally next door to each
00:18other and they have two great redans nationals for dan and shinda cox for dan are both okay
00:23which one's interesting okay all right so the reason i'm going to give you this answer is because
00:30i think historical context matters like cb mcdonald who designed national is the the father
00:37in many ways of american golf courts architecture like he comes over from scotland with all these
00:42template holes that he's trying to bring to america and so when he does a redan inspired by north beric
00:48at national golf links of america that kind of has to be the american redan you know what i mean
00:53now i know they're all variations on a theme um but this was a fantastic hole i i think it's
01:01and
01:01william flynn was is an amazing architect but i think you've got to give cb the nod
01:05given just looking at what i'm seeing here i'm i'm gonna go i'm gonna go national
01:11yeah so this is yeah this is a really good one this one reminds me a little bit more of
01:16north beric
01:16um so i had a seven iron here playing one night trying to smash it wow it's way dead
01:23just one overcooked it big time that so when we get up to when we get up to the green
01:30here charlie
01:30um i was sitting there watching the 2018 final round wow you were way left um which is you rather
01:37miss left than miss right though i i hit it up there i i was of course so if you
01:42can see my cursor here
01:43on the screen i'm hoping the audience can that is where you're supposed to hit it on a redan if
01:48you've never played a redan part three i'll zoom you back right part of the green it's like you just
01:52hit it right here and then the and then the ball takes the natural slope of the green and works
01:57back
01:57this this part of the green is more elevated in the back part of the green so you hit it
02:00here and
02:01just funnels it back in there and then the hole on this day was right about here right so let's
02:05fast
02:05forward back here and look at how far i missed my target by i just had the seven iron hand
02:10just
02:10tried to crush it and just overcooked it a lot um are you ready for this one smiley yeah yeah
02:14i am
02:15all right so have been buddy oh boy please tell me wedge shanks aren't out and about it's a fluffy
02:21lie we can't do that it was downhill right don't go right oh charlie you shank that that was a
02:28shank
02:29that was a cold shank wow oh my god not my best work
02:37still in the bunker i mean like like a half shake like a half shake okay when in the world
02:43that i'm telling you downhill lie and i and all i'm thinking about is don't shake it don't shake it
02:48don't shake it i i this has been in my this has been in my mind really for the last
02:52three years but uh
02:53all right so here we go we gotta get recover here bunker game was on point on this day
02:58all right i'll take that one so knocked it up there um gave myself yeah yeah it's a cool look
03:04though for that front left bunker it really is like knock it in there there you go good pot
03:11need that one little fist bump where i was going with here was uh if you can go back to
03:18the flyover
03:18i want to show you the uh so that front left hole location i believe this is the right shot
03:25all right
03:25so they use a little further left a little further right in there yeah and there's apparently a lot of
03:32slope around that hole location because brooks hit in one about five or six feet just right of it
03:38and i'm telling you this putt was so fast he barely touched it hits the lip and he had like
03:44six feet
03:44coming back uh made that putt back for par but i was just thinking man this is like has to
03:51be one
03:51of the dicey's hole locations uh definitely on this green but i was like off course so i was
03:56interested if you have to see that front left part of the green did you think that would be a
03:59dicey one
04:00dude so it's funny uh i when we play biltmore forest nine is a redan there as well and that
04:06was
04:06almost exactly where that hole location was and it's so interesting thinking about
04:10the ways the the green takes your ball once you hit it on a redan green and all the spots
04:16where like
04:16it's it would seem like in some ways it would be less challenging because if you get down here you
04:23have an uphill pup depending what's happening on that spine right there it's hard to get left like
04:27it's just hard to get over there you know right and we're on the green oh yeah or you're down
04:33the
04:33bunker so or you're going after this pin and you're short-sighted playing to that pin so
04:37i i think the the thing and again this is just talking about both those courses out there
04:42on south dampton is like the old world nature of those grasses like just the the you know the
04:49firmness of those greens it's just i just love it and it's just treacherous like you can lose putts
04:55so quickly the wind can play tricks on them i just thought that that feature was it's it's hard but
05:02you you're having so much fun while playing a hard golf course i think it's best
05:06100 percent
