The electric vehicle revolution in Asia is accelerating at an unbelievable pace, and another major country has officially hit a massive tipping point! According to the latest automotive registration data, electric vehicle market share has skyrocketed to a record-breaking 65% in Singapore for April 2026. Driven by a combination of aggressive government incentives, strict vehicle emission schemes, and a rapidly expanding charging network, traditional combustion engines are being rapidly phased out. In this video, we break down the spectacular sales numbers, how dominant EV players like BYD and Tesla are capturing the market, and why Singapore's hyper-accelerated transition serves as a massive wake-up call for urban mobility across Southeast Asia and the rest of the world.

00:00Guys, I've talked a lot about how Nepal is now over 70% EV.
00:05Norway, of course, 98%.
00:06Sweden, 65%.
00:09Denmark has just hit 93% when it comes to private passenger cars, not commercial vehicles.
00:16However, one country I haven't mentioned for quite a while, I think the last time I spoke
00:20about Singapore might have been six to 12 months ago, a long time, is, well, I just
00:25said it, Singapore.
00:28And in Singapore, EV sales have now hit more than 62% in the month of April.
00:34For the first quarter of the year, the number was just under 60% in April.
00:38It hit an all-time record.
00:40So what are the best-selling cars then in Singapore?
00:42I mean, Singapore is obviously a pretty small country.
00:45There's about 5 million people.
00:46It's actually very hard to buy a car there.
00:48The taxes are enormous on cars because the government doesn't want too many cars on the
00:52roads just because it's a relatively small place.
00:55So let's have a look at the most important cars.
00:57When I first looked this up, one of the watchers on the channel, he sent me a link to his
01:01article,
01:02which had the EV sales figures from April showing more than 62% percentage, but it didn't have
01:09models.
01:10So I've done a bit more research to find out the most popular models in the month of April
01:14in Singapore.
01:16And the number one most popular cars, it's not separated, unfortunately, for some reason.
01:21It's a combination of the BWD 803 and the BWD SEAL.
01:25Those cars together, they had 45% market share.
01:3045%.
01:31That's 45% market share of the estimated 65% to 69%.
01:37So Gemini, I've done some research on there and Claude and all the AIs, I've looked at them all
01:43because they're all a bit confused.
01:45Singapore, their data is quite hard to find and to analyze.
01:50Anyway, it's between 65% to 69%.
01:53So of that, let's just go in the middle.
01:55Let's pick a middle number.
01:56Let's pick 67%.
01:57Of that, 45% of those were the BWD 803 or the BWD SEAL.
02:04So yeah, that's massive market share.
02:06On the Electric Viking website, I'll put a link in the description below.
02:10We have more articles about electric cars and battery technology than any other website
02:15that I'm aware of in the world.
02:17So check that out.
02:19Link is in the description.
02:21And there you'll find our videos and analysis and articles about everything going on in the
02:26EV world.
02:27Third place was the Model Y, Tesla Model Y.
02:30Now, this is the most or the least powerful Tesla Model Y in the world by a wide margin.
02:36It has half the power of the Model Y everywhere else in the world.
02:40Tesla have detuned it in order to fit into the category A spec.
02:43So it only has 110 kilowatt of power.
02:47That's not much power for a car that size.
02:49But anyway, they had to do that to comply with Singapore's rules, essentially.
02:54Fourth place is the MG S5 and the MG S5.
02:58They're kind of categorized together as well.
03:01And in fifth place was the Zika X and the Zika 009.
03:06Sixth place was the Xpeng G6.
03:09So actually, Xpeng sold more G6s than Zika sold Zika Xs or 009s because those sales numbers
03:16are put together.
03:17Actually, when you look at these sales numbers, it looks like the Xpeng G6 was in third place
03:22behind the Model Y.
03:23Then you would have, I don't know, some combination of the MG S5, MG4, and Zika X, combination of
03:30those three cars.
03:32So yeah, the top four best-selling EVs in Singapore, Tesla Model Y, Xpeng G6, BWD 803, and the
03:40BWD SEAL.
03:41Now, here's the funny thing, right?
03:43BWD, the 803 that they sell in Singapore, it has less than 100 kilowatt.
03:50So the global version has more than 100, I think it has 150 kilowatt, but they detune
03:56it to under 100 kilowatt in order for it to meet the category ACOE, meaning it essentially
04:03becomes, there's less tax put on it and it's much more affordable.
04:06So that's kind of interesting the way they do that.
04:09Now, one of the reasons why the Model Y is, well, sells well, one, Tesla detuned it to
04:13meet the correct category, the category A, but also it's got really good range.
04:18It's got 554 kilometers of range, which is not as much as the international long-range
04:24versions, but it's a lot of range in Singapore, as you can imagine.
04:28It's more than you'd need.
04:30So what body types are the most, well, the highest sellers in Singapore?
04:36It is SUVs.
04:37They have between, they have around 66% market share.
04:41So yeah, most cars are SUVs.
04:43But to be honest, we call all kinds of vehicles SUVs these days.
04:46They just have to look sort of like a little wagon and we'll call it an SUV.
04:51It's sort of changed the way we title that category.
04:54Wanted to do this video to let you guys know now that there is now many countries that have
05:00more than 60% EV market share.
05:03I think there's about six now.
05:05I reckon, give it another year or two, we might have a few.
05:08I mean, guys, included in that list is China.
05:12Now, for the first time ever, China's now above 60% as well.
05:15So what are your thoughts?
05:17Let me know.
05:17Let me know which countries you think next will get above that list, into that 60% plus list.
05:22Just pretty, pretty exclusive list, but I think it's going to be joined by a lot more countries
05:26soon.
05:26Bye-bye.

06:22In the first three months of this year, 2.8 million electric cars were sold.
06:292.8 million.
06:31Of all plug-in cars that were bought worldwide, including plug-in hybrids and E-Revs,
06:3870% were fully electric.
06:41Only 30% were either plug-in hybrids or extended range EVs.
06:46These are the top 20 best-selling cars in the world in March.
06:52The top 20 best-selling electric cars specifically.
06:55Interestingly, only three of the top 20 are legacy cars made by legacy brands.
07:02Two of them are from Toyota, although they're way down in the list, and one is from Kia.
07:08The other 17 are Chinese car brands and Tesla.
07:13Now, many people have celebrated the demise of Tesla, saying,
07:17yeah, these guys are no longer relevant.
07:19It's all over for them.
07:21If you actually look at these sales figures, you'll see that Tesla is still dominating the
07:26global EV landscape.
07:28Hello, my friends.
07:30Welcome to the channel.
07:31Great to have you with us.
07:32I'm Sam Evans.
07:32You're watching The Electric Viking.
07:34Let's get straight to it.
07:34This is the top 20 best-selling electric cars in March.
07:38And why not April?
07:40Well, we don't have numbers for April yet for the entire planet.
07:43It takes a while for this information to come through.
07:45Model Y, 118,531.
07:50You can see the Model Y outsold any other electric car model from any other car brand
07:57by nearly 90,000.
08:00It completely dominated, 118,530 sales.
08:04In second place was the Tesla Model 3 with 53,000.
