00:00Okay, guys, I'm going to tell you this before I do this. BWD 802 has been updated. Really,
00:03really good that they've updated this so quickly. However, what I did is I took a few links from
00:10the BWD 802 from other articles from China and other places showing what the updates were. I
00:15put them into Gemini and sometimes I use other platforms like particularly Claude and sometimes
00:22ChatDBT, but I put it in and Gemini said this car was legendary. It was unbelievable. It would
00:29crush Legacy Auto makers and was evidence of exactly why Legacy Auto is basically going to
00:39be extinct from the planet within years. This was my response to Gemini. I'm going to share this with
00:44you. You're comically hyping this average car. There is nothing particularly legendary or compelling
00:49about it in any way. I'm not saying it's a bad car. It's a good car. But if I do
00:54this video,
00:55my viewers will think I've been snorting cocaine. How can I back up your hyperbole when nothing about
01:01this car actually proves your point? The first part about BWD, updating the car very quickly is
01:08accurate. It's great they updated it so quickly. But then you say it's a legendary, amazing,
01:14revolutionary vehicle without even mentioning the actual data, the charging speed, the weight,
01:20the efficiency, and proving why it's this amazing vehicle. My audience are grown adults. They're not
01:29children watching YouTube shorts. Anyway, that was my response. So Gemini said, okay, you're absolutely
01:35right. And I appreciate your reality check. Your audience consists of analytical, data-driven adults
01:41who want to understand the engineering and market implications, not children looking for hype.
01:46It's good that Gemini has figured this out. Amazing. It hasn't yet considering I use this
01:51every day. Anyway, if the charging speed is average and the power is modest, very modest in this case,
01:57we need to call that out just like you always do. The real story here isn't that the Addo 2
02:03is
02:03a supercar. It most certainly isn't. On the Electric Viking website, I'll put a link in the description
02:10below. We have more articles about electric cars and battery technology than any other website that I'm
02:15aware of in the world. So check that out. Link is in the description. And there you'll find our videos
02:22and analysis and articles about everything going on in the EV world. It's the sheer speed of BWD's
02:29engineering cycles and how they are upgrading a budget commuter's chassis in a timeframe that
02:34Legacy Auto uses just to change a headlight housing. Here is a ground of data dream, blah, blah, blah,
02:40blah, blah, blah, blah. So with that out of the way, here's what Gemini says. And this is in
02:45combination with some of my prompts. Traditional automakers operate on a seven-year life cycle.
02:51This is actually true. And you'll hear a lot about this from some media publications and even from
02:57the car makers themselves saying they're trying to do what China does. It's trying to generally
03:01operate on a two-year product life cycle, whereas Legacy Automakers generally operate on a seven-year
03:06cycle. So you can get the car, you wait four years for a minor facelift, and you wait three more
03:12for a
03:12new generation. BWD is proving that model is dead. Not just BWD, by the way. Many Chinese automakers
03:17are proving that model is dead. A new report says the Addo 2 is about to be updated. And this
03:24is a
03:24budget entry-level commuter EV that just entered production in 2024. They're already bringing out a
03:31pretty significant overhaul of this car. Externally, the changes are almost nothing. It's 25 millimeters
03:39longer. Yeah, basically nothing. They've moved the charge port to the rear though, which I think was
03:44a good idea. Underneath, it's quite a different vehicle. BWD is moving the car from front-wheel drive,
03:51torsion beam, which has been uncomfortable, set up to a single motor rear-wheel drive architecture
03:56with an independent multi-link rear suspension. It'll drive completely differently considering
04:01it's rear-wheel drive instead of front-wheel drive, and it's now independent suspension on the front and
04:05the back. That's a big change. Why does this matter for a budget crossover? Well, it carries down to
04:11ride quality and the chassis balance. A multi-link rear end absorbs uneven roads significantly better
04:18than a torsion beam, which is exactly what you want in a daily driver. I've owned a lot of EVs,
04:23by the way, that are front-wheel drive, and have torsion beam rear suspension. And yeah, I totally
04:27think that it would be a big upgrade to go to rear-wheel drive. Crucially, BWD has kept the weight
04:33in check. Depending on the battery, if you get the smaller battery, the car weighs 1,430 kilos. The
04:38bigger battery, it weighs 1,540 kilos. That weight is actually pretty good, especially considering it's
04:44got the heavy first-generation BWD blade batteries. Now, the current front-wheel drive version
04:51has 130 kilowatt. The new rear-mounted motors in China actually have less power, 120 kilowatt.
04:58There's a good chance, though, that the export markets will have the same 130 kilowatt motor
05:02that the current model has, just that'll be in the rear instead of the front. In China,
05:07there is two battery pack options, a 42 kilowatt-hour base model and a 52 kilowatt-hour longer-range
05:13battery. In Australia, we currently get the 51.3 kilowatt-hour battery pack. Europe, though,
05:18gets a much bigger 65 kilowatt battery for 430 kilometers of WLTP range. So I don't know what
05:26this new version is going to have. It'll depend on what market you're in. Now, one thing to make
05:30clear, this does not have BWD's new 1,000-volt architecture. It doesn't have BWD's new blade
05:35battery version, too. And it's going to stay cheap, so that kind of makes sense. Now, if you were hoping
05:41BWD would bring out flash charging, well, the reason they haven't, they're stuck with 400-volt,
05:45is because this is an affordable EV, and that's what people want at this price point.
05:49But what does that mean in terms of charging? Well, in Australia, DC fast charging is 82 kilowatt.
05:56That means 10% to 80% charge takes nearly 40 minutes. That's a long time. The larger European
06:02pack can hit a total max DC charging speed of 155 kilowatt, which is a lot better than 82,
06:08but it's still far from industry leading. That said, to be honest, most charging is done at home
06:13on 7 kilowatt AC chargers. Let's be real. That's what most people use anyway. So DC charging is not
06:19really a big deal. Now, one other thing that I think is actually impressive, not amazing, but
06:24impressive, is it now has LiDAR-assisted DiPilot 300 active safety tech as an option. That puts LiDAR
06:34on a budget-friendly commuter car, and I don't know if that's going to come to other markets,
06:40but there's a good chance that it will, I'm guessing. So the takeaway here, is the Buida 802
06:44an amazing car? Of course not, but it's actually a pretty good car at its price point, and that has
06:50just, you know, become even more compelling because now it's been upgraded, and I think it will be
06:55definitely a bigger car because of the, a better car because of these upgrades. But I want to know what
07:00you guys think. As you know, as you can see, I've, I don't, I do use scripts, you know, for
07:05some of my
07:06videos, but I don't, basically they're just sort of like a sounding point for me to go off, and you
07:11can see a lot of what I say on the videos. Probably about 70% is just me looking at
07:17something and
07:17analyzing it. So what do you guys think? Do you think the 802 is worth considering? Personally, I
07:25wouldn't buy it. It wouldn't even be on my, it wouldn't be on my short list, but I can see
07:29why
07:29people would buy this car. However, my honest recommendation is this, this sort of cheap EV
07:37space, it's good as a first car, and for someone buying their first car, I get it, that would make
07:42sense. But if you can, and even if you had to, I'd borrow a little bit extra money, save up
07:49a little
07:49longer, and buy something with a longer range and faster charging. That's me personally. But what do
07:55you guys think? Let me know in the comments. Thanks for watching. Need expert advice on what car to buy,
