00:01we'll get to the phones then we'll get to the bucket list because today today's one of those
00:05days for me leaving right after the show let's get to adam and frankenmuth talking bold moves
00:10for the offseason and how it impacts the pistons boys how you doing umpire adam how you doing
00:18umpire adam here man john love it man school's out oh man i can't even tell you how excited i
00:24am
00:24same here uh just want to talk a little bit about the pistons man uh to watch the knicks win
00:31it and
00:32knowing that we would have beat them i am i we obviously did we didn't beat cleveland we didn't
00:38show up in the playoffs but i really truly believe we could beat the knicks man go out and get
00:43quiet
00:43lenner just bring him in um solidify that other side can you imagine why um cunningham and just
00:53uh sar thompson all just the defense that we will be able to have just go out and get him
00:58um we
00:59failed to do anything at the trade deadline we brought in the guy you know the the shooter but
01:03he really didn't help us at all man go out and get him and man we will we got a
01:08shot to be great
01:09you you know because i the knicks the knicks went on a run and did their thing but i really
01:14believe
01:14the pistons could have beat them if we'd have played them i wanted to see i don't want to flat
01:18my gums and act like we would have beat the defending champs we couldn't get out of game seven at
01:21home but i wanted to see it because it felt like the pistons got up for those games and
01:26might have been a bad matchup for new york what do you think about kawaii yeah i mean look i
01:31i think
01:31he's a guy we can talk about all the the good defender yeah scorer take the offensive load off
01:38of kate cunningham a true co-star i guess the concern would be health health do you bring a load
01:46management guy in in his mid 30s does that really jive with the way the pistons are built played 65
01:51games
01:51last year he did he did the year before was 37 and um really the majority i mean you go
01:57back
01:57since he's he's been in la he's played like what 50 50 or so games most years yeah since he's
02:05been in
02:05la 57 52 52 68 37 i don't know what the average is but it's a little lower than you'd
02:12like yeah and
02:13if you're just trying to like get him through the regular season to have him for the postseason
02:17i'm more open to a guy like that because i mean obviously i talked about zion williamson and that
02:23to me that's a no-go because he's more unreliable but kawaii if it's just simply a matter of of
02:30load management yeah then i've mentioned i'm not
02:37the the regular season results as long as you're in and you're in in one of the to say top
02:42three or
02:42four spots you're in it you're in it and to have him in the postseason that's a completely different
02:49animal now yeah and you're cool with he'd have to want to come here right but you're cool with
02:54the mercenary he did it for toronto he was their their big mercenary move that and he was their best
03:00player last year kawaii finished seventh in the mvp voting uh he was second team all nba yeah
03:07if he's available i get it i could be a guy that i would think he'd be here for you
03:13know a year or
03:14two yeah unless he wants an extension and then yeah then then it's just a different decision to
03:19make uh guys right now my goal is to get back in on the uh the back end of the
03:24yannis trade i'm
03:25hoping he goes to miami the bucks don't want tyler hero and sometimes the piston some way some way
03:30somehow the pistons walk away with hero and bobby porter jr in a three-way trade randy and livonia
03:36you're a facilitator you just kind of stick your nose in there and yeah hey who could we snatch
03:41out of this deal we'll take tyler here he's got one year left on his deal sure sure we'll step
03:45in
03:45yeah guys they need to target amen thompson says would cost as much is a good shooter and would
03:54create intangibles with his brother i think the rocket should trade for us our thompson
04:03amen's a worse three-point shooter shooter than assar no i know my point though is like we want him
04:08well they want like right no we want him no you want we're gonna put the twin brothers together now
04:14you are and tom's right he doesn't shoot the three he could help create but he doesn't shoot
04:19it doesn't solve that problem he actually puts another negative offensive spacer on the floor he
04:24does average 18 a game versus assar averages nine so it's double the production scoring wise but
04:30he's a 21 percent three-point shooter right he's not going to do what you need to do that space
04:34the
04:35floor you're not getting that extra three-point shooter threat it would be very fun to have both
04:40of them with cade and a number two no i know but if i'm doing that's possible i'm doing houston
04:44radio we
04:45won 50 games we got durant we got a young team let's add assar pistons aren't trading assar and the
04:51pockets aren't trading amen uh would brawny go with his dad if he left got a text on that
05:00that's like an automatic isn't it probably uh at some point does he have to like stand on his own
05:07or no no well not until bronze out of the game they both exit at the same time probably and
05:15edwards
05:15in minnesota could really use a player like say carl anthony towns oops austin reeves is that he
05:23doesn't want to come to detroit bringing him up is gaslighting has i do we have proof that he said
05:29that i i haven't seen that i'm not uh there's a great chance that i may have missed something in
05:37nba news why would he not want to come to detroit we're a number one seed in the east title
05:43contender
05:43there's plenty of spacing and shots maybe he just likes living in la sunny la brendan it was i think
05:51it was back in the draft process a couple years ago that oh okay he said he wouldn't come to
05:55detroit
05:55if they were picked like they wanted to pick him and he was like don't even bother oh yeah this
05:59is from
06:00june 19th 2024 it's a video of him on the golf course fan says we need you on the pistons
06:08austin
06:08and he says nah i'm not going to detroit but that's also when detroit was at its lowest point
06:15right so things have changed since then i would hope so yeah that was my question if his idea because
06:22they were i think a 14 win team or just even the year prior so maybe that was his reasoning
06:27for not
06:28coming to detroit i don't know who wouldn't want to play with cade though right yeah it sets you up
06:32and
06:32again the floor spacing the shots that you're going to get again i i i have him as i think
06:41they
06:41should make the austin reeves their number one target and he's more available than anybody else
06:47yeah and i think i think he makes a lot of sense free agent but you could work a sign
06:53and trade if
06:53it comes to it hey i want to get to chuck but we're late on time so chuck we'll start
06:58you uh off to
06:59start the eight o'clock hour you want to talk about a start thompson and his role in the future
07:03of the pistons it's 97 one
07:21brought to you by michigan lottery despite the tigers 4-2 loss to the astros last night it was
07:26an encouraging start for fromber valdez against his former team as the lefty went six innings with
07:31only six hits and one run allowed he also conceded three walks but had six strikeouts after the game
07:37aj hinch talked about what went into last night's outing for his starter
08:00valdez originally left the game with a lead before the tigers bullpen allowed three runs in the eighth
08:05inning to concede the advantage and the game the tigers have now lost nine games this year when
08:10leading in the eighth inning or later the good news for detroit is that justin verlander will come
08:14back this sunday at home against the white sox it will be only his second start this season and the
08:19first at home rubber match between tigers and astros is today just after two o'clock and the stars of
08:24the world cup did not disappoint last night as killing mbappe erling holland and lionel messi all had
08:29multi-goal games in wins for their countries mbappe's two goals helped him pass just fontaine for the
08:35most world cup goals in france's history with 14 as they beat senegal three to one that's only two
08:39behind the record for the most world cup goals which lionel messi met last night at the carlwell
08:44health sports desk i'm brendan shabath for more go to 97 won the ticket or odyssey.com
09:00let's get to chuck you've been waiting patiently you're on 97 one good morning
09:05hey good morning guys uh appreciate the time let me start by saying i i am a fan of assar
09:09thompson i think he has tremendous value on this team but to put him in this untradable category i
09:15think is ridiculous honestly you can't have a guy who's playing meaningful minutes minutes and
09:20meaningful games just completely be a non-factor on the offensive side of the ball if he's not
09:25getting offensive rebounds or steals he's not scoring in my opinion it's like if mikhail bridges
09:30or og and ob couldn't score for the knicks you know like they're not winning anything if those
09:36guys aren't producing on the offensive end and frankly assar i love you man but if you're not
09:40scoring i just don't see how you can be put in this untradable category this untouchable
09:45spot i don't think i would use the word untradable or untouchable i suppose there's always a player
09:50if they were available i'd give assar up four but i think it's a very small list because you want
09:57to
09:57build with assar and cade cunningham i mean this team is built on defense he's the the driving force
10:03of their defense he's he's the best perimeter defender in basketball i mean yeah i'd give him up
10:08if you were giving me an all nba megastar but i don't know that those guys are being made available
10:15i don't disagree with you at all but to go back to the trey murphy conversation i think he's still
10:20a little unproven but to say that assar shouldn't be involved in that deal or you wouldn't do an
10:25assar thompson you know and for trey murphy maybe a second or a future first i think that absolutely
10:31should should be considered murphy is above and beyond a better offensive player he is a better
10:35you have good enough defensive guys you have better you have good defensive guys around
10:40cade and the rest of that team i know assar is obviously a unicorn on the defensive end yeah but
10:44it's not like the rest of the team's a bad defensive squad you need scoring trey murphy brings it i
10:50think
10:50if they want assar you absolutely hear that that conversation out okay so so this is i said it
10:55flippantly but i dug in a little more so the ringer does their top 100 players in the nba list
10:59and
10:59it's something that evolves and it's not gospel it's just one website's opinion they have assar thompson
11:04is the number 56 player in all of pro basketball they do have trey murphy a little ahead of him
11:10at 49 but i would say they're in the same tier right am i getting any better in that i'm
11:15getting
11:15it's different right you're just you're trading one skill set for another skill set right is basically
11:20what you're doing are you saying it's easier to find an all-world nba perimeter defender or
11:25a guy who shoots a little bit well so in terms of untradeable if somebody calls up and says
11:34we want to talk about assar thompson you you at least listen to who they're offering up sure
11:42if they call up and say we want to talk to you about kate cunningham you hang up the phone
11:47so that's
11:49the difference of guys that are untouchable kate's untouchable agreed everyone else on the roster
11:54would have a certain price point jalen durham by the way they list as the number 44 player in the
12:00nba
12:00i trade him for trey murphy go to straight let me ask you this does murphy have potential to go
12:06to
12:07the next tier with kade i don't think he's going to be a kade like player no not that no
12:13i said oh you
12:14put it in tiers so i'm thinking you're putting thompson and murphy in tier three sure okay can he go
12:20to
12:20tier two sure yeah and then can thompson go to tier two right how does he do that he learns
12:26how to
12:26shoot even just a little bit not even a three-point jumper just a little set from the elbow knock
12:32one
12:32down uh let's get to antonio mount clemens antonio good morning uh y'all doing good good uh i just
12:42wanted to chime in on the one of the previous callers was talking about assar not being considered
12:48untradeable and compared him to the players on the next squad because they could score i feel like
12:53one thing that one person that he left out was players like josh hart like there are players on
12:58championship teams who aren't you know like offensively consistent now josh hart knocked down
13:04a lot of timely shots he's a better shooter than assar yeah but historically championship teams have
13:10had players like assar who don't fit the offensive role at all but they provide other parts to win the
13:18championship because while yes the one here in the basketball game scores more points there is more
13:24to basketball than just the offensive side of it and josh hart also came up with a lot of timely
13:29offensive rebounds yeah a lot of stops clogging up the offensive um rhythm for the spurs and you look
13:36back through history there's a lot of players who fit that mold for other championship teams as well
13:40so i do think a defender like assar who has potential to be a generational defender yes who
13:47is really young and can improve on other parts of his game will thrive if we add more offense because
13:54it opens up the floor for him to increase his role the same way that the knicks did with josh
13:58hart
13:58right and antonio you we live in a city where we watched our teams be built with these defensive
14:05chess pieces like i think about ben wallace who's in the hall of fame because he played elite defense
14:11not because he could knock down a jump shot or even a free throw okay find different era dennis
14:17rodman would be another player that people see shades of with the sar thompson we live in a city
14:21that celebrated dennis rodman and ben wallace assar thompson feels like the next guy to grab the
14:27mantle as an all-world defender who can drive winning we don't have to win that way though like i
14:32get
14:32frustrated with that it's like like it's the only way the pistons can win is to be going to work
14:37and
14:37we're tough and we play defense i didn't say i wanted five of sar thompson but there's absolutely
14:43a role for a guy like that on a title team include thompson in a heartbeat and with a true
14:47robin i want
14:48to see a one-two with the pistons a true one-two how come we can't see that no we
14:53got us to be going
14:54to work gotta be tough gotta play you know train horns at the games well so i'm gonna be the
15:00ultimate
15:01stoney on this and ride the fence i agree with both of you he's in tomorrow and in regards to
15:07yeah there is great value in what assar brings and championship teams certainly have those type of
15:15guys but to tom's point like i don't think he's untradeable no but it all depends on who is coming
15:24in return if you're going to give up assar thompson then you are definitely getting a a number two
15:30for cade to be able to go out there and utilize offensively okay just so you don't think i'm
15:37being unreasonable give me jalen brown and i'd give up assar thompson he would have to be in that deal
15:42yeah that's a guy i would actually give assar up to go get but we're talking about one of the
15:4615 to
15:4720 best players in basketball that trade is probably thompson holland and durin done and pick and a pick
15:56the problem would just be then your roster's two guys right yeah so yeah who who then are you going
16:03to get to compliment those guys too let me be moving target at that point i don't want to force
16:08getting a two right now i'm just saying i don't want to be trapped by having to be this going
16:14to
16:14work mentality every time we try to compete for a championship in the city i just to be clear that's
16:18not my mo is not trying to recreate the oh four pistons that's why i think the move we have
16:23cade the
16:24oh four pistons didn't have a k that this team will inherently be different that's why i think
16:29that you're building on the fly here you don't want to screw it up i think trading thompson right
16:34now could potentially screw it up that's why again i like a trade like mpj where he doesn't have to
16:40be
16:40in that deal right and then you see what you have with a guy that can split space the floor
16:45when you
16:46still have thompson and kate yeah let's get to omar you're on 97 one good morning omar hey good morning
16:53how's it going good all right so i'm gonna jump in and it's a sorry thing so this yeah i
17:02mean it
17:02would be nice to have another offensive player to compliment k's game but i don't want to be
17:08in competition with other teams where you are forced to outscore other teams without shutting
17:15their other perimeter player down and that's what was the problem with san antonio with uh uh
17:22jalen brunson they didn't have nobody that can shut jalen brunson down whereas asar gave
17:29brunson all kind of fits yep so i would rather keep asar and find somebody like a michael porter
17:38importance that's going to at least give you 18 or 15 or maybe 20 points a game
17:43no longer if you still keep asar i know everybody like well sorry he's not going to score no points
17:47okay guess what the all championship teams has a permit uh a premier defender on the team from
17:55bruce boyne to san antonio ron harper to chicago bulls and the list goes on even draymond played a
18:02big deal of defensive role with the golden state warriors uh championships it's not it's not always
18:07about all offense no it's not eventually one of one of your offensive players is going to go on a
18:13cold street then what are you going to do right you got to be able to put a lid on
18:16the basket to keep
18:16yourself in some of those games i think it's also a great point about what's easier to find
18:22it's hard to find asar thompson's in an nba full of people who don't defend the way he does right
18:28is it easier to find guys if you said hey they're not going to guard you at the three-point
18:32line
18:33is that a skill set that you can find in today's nba it's much easier than the skill set that
18:37asar
18:38brings that's my level that would be my point and it's not the dog trey murphy trey murphy could help
18:42this team but i feel like there are more trey murphy's than there are asar thompson's maybe
18:47that's the best way for me to explain it i know we've ended up spending like 45 minutes on this
18:51it's a good discussion about where the pistons go this off season well i mean just look at the
18:56list of players that we talked about earlier all of them are we talk about their offense we're not
19:03talking about any other defense other than derrick white it becomes the business are in a position to
19:08offense because they have a player like us are right you're chasing your tail a little bit if
19:12you give him up lose the defensive edge add a little more shooting around cade now you're going can we
19:16get big stops at the end of fourth quarters in nba playoffs yeah and if the answer is no then
19:21now
19:21it's well we're not scoring enough we gotta outscore him tech says i've heard rumors before that lebron
19:27steph and butler will create the expendables team in golden state possibly with kevin durant
19:32i don't want reeves he flops more than sga horrible watch give me trey murphy and kairi irving
19:40okay um jalen brunson flops sga flops i like to call it drawing contact getting to the free
19:49throw line making free throws i like those players
19:55assar just needs to be a draymond green type shooter hit 30 from three he does need to be great
20:00just a threat to knock down an open look from two or three well and that's the thing is no
20:06one is
20:06coming out to guard assar no it's i mean everyone is packing the paint which if we're talking about
20:13a durin conversation that's it complicates matters yeah we did get a text today that said everybody's
20:19focusing on adding the second score but it doesn't acknowledge the piston's biggest issue which is
20:23playing durin and assar big minutes together it helps alleviate some of it if how many times did
20:30we see especially in the playoffs assar thompson gets the ball on the wing he's wide open he's not
20:35even looking to take the shot jb may have told him don't shoot it right hey that's a real bad
20:40look
20:40for us yeah it's considered a negative offensive possession if you shoot that that wing three wide
20:45open please do not shoot that yeah and you miss it time and time and time this time again we'll
20:50send a
20:50screen we'll have you back cut we'll use the space differently we just can't have you shoot that
20:54basketball because you know what the color analysis is going to say what that's why you're wide open
20:59yeah that they're leaving you open for a reason they want you to take that shot just like they want
21:03you to pinch hit with jemi jones that's why teams put lefties in yeah sorry did i slip that in
21:08248-539-9797
21:10we will mix in some tiger baseball this morning uh get to my world cup plans more feedback from you
21:15guys
21:15it's 97-1
21:17one
