00:00A Realm Beyond was greenlit thanks to a passionate and persistent fanbase.
00:06After years of asking when Spyro would make his return, it appears that their voices were
00:10heard.
00:11According to members of the development team at Toys for Bob, the newly announced Spyro
00:16A Realm Beyond owes its existence in large part to the enthusiasm and persistence of
00:20the series community.
00:22Speaking with GamesRadar+, Associate Creative Director Lou Studdart and Studio Head Paul
00:29Jan explained that the team had long hoped to revisit the Purple Dragon's world.
00:33Having previously worked on the Spyro Reignited Trilogy and the Skylanders franchise, they
00:38maintained a strong personal connection to the character and believed the time was right
00:42for a brand new adventure.
00:45Studdart described Spyro as a character that has always held a special place within the
00:49studio.
00:50He noted that the team relates to the underdog nature of the franchise, admiring its themes
00:55of taking on overwhelming odds despite humble beginnings.
00:58For the developers, returning to Spyro felt like a natural decision rather than a difficult
01:02one.
01:04However, the studio's own passion wasn't the only factor that helped bring the project
01:08to life.
01:09Jan emphasized that the fan community played a major role in convincing leadership that
01:14a new installment was worth pursuing.
01:17According to Jan, nearly every gaming event featured fans asking when the next Spyro game
01:22would arrive, even before the team had formally pitched the idea.
01:25When presenting their proposal to Xbox, Toys for Bob highlighted the consistent demand from
01:30players, arguing that there was already a dedicated audience eager for the franchise's return.
01:37The message was simple.
01:38The community had made its wishes clear, and the developers were ready to answer that call.
01:43Jan also explained that Toys for Bob had always enjoyed creating colorful, character-driven
01:48platformers.
01:48Alongside Spyro, he mentioned the studio's affection for franchises like Banjo, saying these types
01:54of experiences remain an important part of gaming and deserve continued support.
01:59Ooh, maybe a new Banjo-Kazooie or sequel down the road.
02:06Rather than representing a shift in creative direction, Spyro A Realm Beyond is viewed internally
02:12as a continuation of the kind of games the studio has always loved to make.
02:17The upcoming title is scheduled to launch in Spring 2027 for Xbox Series, PlayStation 5,
02:23PC, and Nintendo Switch 2.
02:24According to the nostalgia, long-time Spyro voice actor Tom Kenny is returning to reprise
02:31the role.
02:32When it arrives, Spyro A Realm Beyond will mark the first entirely original entry in the
02:38Spyro series in nearly two decades, a milestone that many fans have been hoping to see for
02:43years.
02:45The announcement also serves as a reminder that sustained community support can influence
02:50major development decisions.
02:51In this case, Toys for Bob says the steady drumbeat of FanRequest helped transform a long-held
02:57dream into a reality, bringing one of gaming's most beloved mascots back for a new generation.
03:03Okay, so there is a cinematic trailer, so I'm gonna play that, and then I'll give my thoughts
03:11on this after the trailer.
03:13So, just one moment.
03:40Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!
04:23Anyway, that was the trailer for Spyro A Realm Beyond, and what do I have to say?
04:29As someone who has not had as much experience with Spyro the Dragon as I would like to,
04:38I think it's awesome.
04:41Obviously, it's just a cinematic trailer, so we don't know anything about the gameplay.
04:46But everyone loves the first three games.
04:50Spyro, on the PS2, he kind of looked a little questionable, and no one really talks about
04:59the PS2 era, I think, so, but thankfully he looks a lot like what you would expect him
05:08to look like when he was in the original trilogy.
05:12I've only played the first game, and not even all the way to completion.
05:19So, yeah, you know, it's awesome, it sounds awesome, but we just gotta wait and see, because
05:31it's still got about another year before it comes out, another full year.
05:35How do you feel about this new Spyro the Dragon game?
05:40Were you hoping, were you one of the Spyro the Dragon fans hoping for one?
05:44Have you played any of the original, any of the Spyro the Dragon games in the past?
05:49Just, let me know in the comments below.
05:54Yeah, so, that's really all I have to say about Spyro.
06:00Honestly, I think his best part, I think his best time in gaming was the trilogy on PlayStation.
06:06I don't think any of his future games after that trilogy matched up to, matched up to those
06:13games.
06:15So, hopefully, this can recapture the same magic that those games did, or that the Reignited
06:21trilogy was supposed to, but we'll see as more things get released, because all they had
06:30was a cinematic trailer at this point.
