The sole survivor of the Air India plane crash that killed 241 people has called for “honesty, transparency and answers” a year on from the disaster.

00:00Some 169 Indian passengers and 52 British nationals were killed, making it one of the
00:07deadliest plane crashes in terms of the number of British fatalities. Besides those on board
00:13flight Air India 171, another 19 people also died and 67 were seriously injured. Mr Ramesh,
00:23who has lived in Leicester for more than 20 years, previously said the death of his brother RJ
00:29took all his happiness after describing it as a miracle that he survived. In a short statement,
00:3712 months on from the crash, he told the press association what many people perhaps don't
00:42fully appreciate is that the trauma didn't end on the day of the disaster. He says he lives with
00:48the significant psychological scars, the loss of his brother and the constant unanswered questions
00:55around how and why this happened. Investigators have yet to publish their final findings into the
01:02cause of the crash. A preliminary report into the incident from India's Aircraft Accident Investigation
01:09Bureau found both of the plane's fuel switches moved to the cut-off position immediately after take-off,
01:17stopping fuel supply to the engine. The crash survivor is understood to have received £21,500 from Air India
01:25to support his wife and five-year-old son.
