00:00Ah I mean honestly it is truly an honour to be here. I've done various pieces with
00:06King's Village London over the years of course having attended a university here
00:10it's an honour to be back and to be recognised like this is literally
00:15what's in a lifetime so I'm very proud of myself very pleased and looking
00:20forward to the ceremony as well. I mean I've always been ambitious and I think
00:23that's one of the reasons why I've been able to achieve the things I've achieved
00:26in life and for me I think it's really important to be ambitious one of the
00:30things I always recognise and I've always said as well is that success is of course
00:35very very nice and very important but actually in order to have success you
00:38have to be able to pass something down to the next generation because you're not
00:41always going to be at the top of the pecking order so I think absolutely be
00:45ambitious always strive for and try and accomplish your goals and your dreams but
00:50also remember that there'll be a next generation coming through and for me
00:53it's one of the things I've taken the most pride in being able to give back to
00:56younger people to the youngest generations in our society because one
01:00day they'll be standing in this position. JLS star JB Gill whose real name is
01:04Jonathan Benjamin Gill has strong ties with KCL having studied theology there
01:10before joining JLS and has continued to participate in Illumini events and has
01:16also appeared at graduation ceremonies as a guest speaker. Gill has received the
01:22honour due to his strong relationship with the university and for using his
01:26platform as a singer broadcaster and farmer to promote education social issues
01:32and environmental awareness. He reflected on his ambitious career and his
01:37advocacy work which has seen him support charities including the RSPCA, Farms for
01:42City Children and Food Origins Education.
01:45Ah I mean family is everything for me if you're having any kind of achievement it's about celebrating with the
01:52people you love and
01:53family takes on different shapes and sizes whether that's immediate family, adopted
01:57family, friends whatever it might be you know for me to be able to share moments
02:01like this with my family it's incredibly special and I love having them there to
02:06support me and you know because they've always supported me they've supported me
02:09when I've not been receiving awards and accolades like this so to have them here
02:13when it counts is just special.
02:16I actually think I actually felt like I graduated today I'm here at a graduation
02:21ceremony although I didn't quite finish my degree I was speaking to the
02:26professor and the president of the KCL I was speaking to the I was speaking to
02:33the president of KCL and he said to me that KCL really is a stepping and any
02:39university is a stepping step and it's all about giving you the opportunity and the
02:42options that you need in order to go of course in life and accomplish what you
02:46want to accomplish and I definitely did that I have a lot to thank King's for
02:50this moment for and I'm incredibly honored to be here today and to experience.
