00:00We'd had a barbaco, and then all of a sudden we thought, hang on a minute, that's a smoky over
00:04there.
00:05And then obviously, then we started to get a bit sort of concerned what was going on.
00:10And then somebody came along from the house, I think it was, and said, we're prepared to evacuate.
00:18Yeah, it was very, very fixed, mate.
00:20I think we did see a glow, didn't we, through the trees?
00:22Yeah, you saw.
00:22We saw the glow.
00:23And then you think, oh.
00:25But it was the...
00:26It's serious, so we might...
00:28It went from just being in the distance, and suddenly, we were just covered in it, he was black.
00:35And it was really scary, so we just wanted to get out.
00:38We hadn't realised the gravity of the situation, and luckily, somebody had a spare sort of quick B&B.
00:46And they were so lucky.
00:49A lot of people, they'd just sleep in their cars.
00:51So I've been to see, and it's a significantly better pitch than it was yesterday,
00:55although it does remain a dynamic and complex fire.
00:58Complex due to the dry conditions and the access is really challenging for our firefighters.
01:03So we have firefighters all across the country helping us with this incident.
01:06Very grateful for their support, and they're on scene currently.
01:10The complexity of this one, though, we've got the sea on one side, difficult access down the other,
01:13with minimal routes in, so it does pose a unique challenge.
01:16A number of caravan parks had to be evacuated, and they'd been put up in the local resident's home,
01:21which is just a fantastic effort to see.
01:23Well, it's why I heard it first.
01:25I heard a crackle, and I thought, what's that noise, you know?
01:28You know, that sounds like fire.
01:30We're in the middle of nowhere.
01:31So anyway, then my friend smelled smoke, and we just went down to find it.
01:36And it was just like a circle of fire.
01:38You know, it was no bigger than this.
01:40Really small.
01:41So we tried to stamp it out, and then we realized we couldn't stamp it.
01:45And that's when he ran the fire brigade, and I ran across to the National Trust offices.
01:52And you could see the smoke already, because everybody says it's human action.
01:57But I saw no human beings anywhere.
02:00We were totally alone all around.
02:03There was no evidence of a cigarette bar, or camping, or barbecue, or anything like that that might force it.
02:09Or even a piece of glass I couldn't see.
