00:00as family members of corporal johannes joseph cry out for answers homeland security minister
00:07roger alexander is giving the assurance that a thorough investigation will be conducted into his
00:13death is there any sign of hope at this time or does it appear i just said before it's always
00:19about uh an investigation and an autopsy that will determine that you know and i know that if there's
00:24a murder or shooting or wounding and someone dies then there's an investigation and then there's an
00:32autopsy that will determine whether that is or not so i can't even speak to that at this time
00:37on tuesday officers responded to reports of loud explosions at malusing drive in sandy grande
00:44they proceeded to an unfinished concrete structure where they found joseph lying on the ground behind
00:50the building in a fetal position with a wound to the head another officer who was at the scene at
00:56the
00:57time of the incident reported that he had traveled to sandy grande to assist joseph with some tile work
01:03but claims that upon arriving he found joseph with a firearm pointed at his own head following which he
01:11allegedly pulled the trigger the witness told investigators he subsequently felt a burning
01:17sensation in his right leg and realized that he had also been struck by a bullet minister alexander is
01:24encouraging officers in distress to avail themselves of support services see how things come back in a
01:30circle when there was an investigation going on recently and i mentioned that the officers weren't
01:36supposed to go for remember that all of a sudden there was an outcry but now you're asking me why
01:43your
01:43officers don't go for it that's something we identified when i was there we identified and
01:48we often give the people an opportunity who seems to have an issue we want them to realize they have
01:55an issue first thing you have to do is to identify that you have an issue and once they do
01:59that we
01:59often send them for sometimes outside help so i want to call it that meantime the police association
02:05confirms that corporal joseph is the third officer to have reportedly taken his life for the year thus
02:12for based on our information thus far it's true instances of of suicide and yes they have all been
02:21males uh the circumstances though uh so far has shown that it's for different reasons altogether but the
02:33fact that it has happened within such a short period of time um you know it is indeed of greater
02:40concern to us
02:42uh for that and we we will want to ask any of our members who at this point in time
02:47are experiencing
02:48any issues um be it uh on on the workplace be it within their private life social domain please reach
02:58out to your association so that we can take the necessary steps uh we would also ask supervisors to look
03:05out for any flags that can indicate that some input some intervention is necessary in order that we
03:17treated our officers in a particular way police officers are human beings and these situations
03:23are indicative of that are indicative of that ranessa cutting tv6 news
