The free demo for Onimusha: Way of the Sword has sparked a heated debate after players claimed the combat feels too easy and lacks aggression. Now Capcom has responded, explaining that the demo only represents an early section of the game and even includes late-game abilities that may skew difficulty perception.

In this video, I break down Capcom’s response, the community backlash, and whether the full release could actually deliver a much tougher experience when it launches on September 25.

Some players want a more punishing, skill-based experience, while others feel the current balance might actually help newcomers get into the franchise for the first time in years. So… is the difficulty concern overblown, or is Capcom underestimating what fans want?

00:00Capcom addresses player complaints that Unimusha Demo felt too easy after surpassing 1 million
00:06downloads.
00:07A recent free demo for Unimusha Way of the Sword has quickly gained traction, surpassing
00:121 million downloads across consoles and Steam since its release.
00:16The demo offers players an early look at the upcoming action title, introducing the basics
00:21of combat, and showcasing protagonist Miyamoto Mushashi's abilities in the return of Capcom's
00:27long-dormant Samurai franchise.
00:30However, not all feedback has been positive.
00:32Many players have taken to social media and Steam reviews to argue that the demo feels
00:37overly easy, raising concerns that the full game may follow the same trend.
00:42In response, Capcom has addressed the criticism, reassuring fans that the final release will
00:47offer a more demanding experience.
00:50We've heard the feedback that the demo felt too easy for some people, said Unimusha Way
00:55of the Sword producer Akihito Katowaki in a video message to fans.
01:00First the demo is just a slice of the early part of the story.
01:04Also, we really wanted you to enjoy a variety of Mushashi's actions, so we intentionally equipped
01:09them with some late game skills.
01:11Because of that, some players might have felt a lack of a challenge.
01:15Rest assured, in the final game, the bosses and the regular Genma will put up a tougher
01:20fight.
01:21Despite that explanation, discussion among players has continued, with some arguing that
01:26the issue isn't just player power, but enemy behavior and aggression.
01:30In the demo, opponents are relatively passive, allowing Mushashi to dispatch them quickly,
01:35with basic attacks and minimal resistance.
01:39Some reactions on Steam have been particularly blunt, with one user writing,
01:43saying, Don't cater to the filthy casuals, Capcom.
01:46You can do it.
01:47Be brave.
01:48Give us a harder game, even from the start.
01:50It feels like a kid's game at this point.
01:53Still, not all feedback has been negative.
01:55Others believe the accessible difficulty may be intentional, helping new players ease into
02:00a series they may not have experienced before.
02:03One Reddit user noted, Right now, I would personally prefer a little more challenge, but I think they're
02:08doing a good job of striking a balance where you can't just blindly spam your way through
02:12every encounter.
02:14Another commenter added that they are waiting to see how the difficulty shakes out, suggesting
02:18the demo may not be representative of the final balance.
02:22Whether the full experience strikes a sharper edge remains to be seen, but the strong early
02:27interest suggests the revival of Unimusha has already succeeded in drawing attention.
02:32Unimusha Way of the Sword is scheduled to release on September 25th.
02:40Yeah, there's always, um, I've never, I've, I played an Unimusha game maybe once or twice,
02:46so I'm really, um, not too experienced with the Unimusha franchise, but there's always been
02:53a curve, um, to Unimusha, hasn't there?
02:56Unimusha, or maybe that just started, um, maybe the earlier games were, and the later
03:03games, uh, maybe there was no curve to the early games and that started with the later
03:08games, um, but, yeah, uh, even I know Unimusha is not as straightforward, um, the fighting
03:20is not as straightforward as most people would, um, expect, uh, let me rephrase that because,
03:29um, then I'm going to be pissing off the Unimusha fanbase.
03:33Unimusha is not exactly straightforward fighting.
03:36There is a curve.
03:38Um, that's, um, like I said, I've only played an Unimusha game once or twice, all I remember
03:46is it was for PS2, so I don't remember which one it was, um, but on, but after, but, yeah,
03:56I mean, you would, you would think, especially with the way games are today, they're always
04:02trying to cater to new people, uh, new players, uh, you know, hold your hand, help you, um,
04:07um, basically help the player make, um, as much as possible.
04:15So, we just got to see on, in, when this game comes out in September, if the difficulty
04:19is still going to be there or if this is going to be one of the easiest Unimusha games ever
04:23made.
04:24Uh, they said that, uh, the difficulty is going to be more than what was representative in
04:29the demo, but only time will tell.
04:32So, um, have you played an Unimusha game recently, or, um, ever?
04:37Uh, how did you feel about the, uh, fighting system?
04:41Did you feel it was very easy to pick up, or did you feel like there was a curve?
04:45Uh, let me know in the comments below.
