Transcript
00:00Learn, his willingness to learn is incredible.
00:04He's always looking for answers, he's always trying to make changes.
00:09If you see something he don't like, he's gonna say something about it,
00:11speak up about it, and try to do whatever we can to make the best out of that play.
00:17Whatever we can change about the call, change that so it's easier for us to understand.
00:22So just in that aspect, he's been awesome.
00:24At this point of OTAs, why or what do you feel has grown in terms of your confidence?
00:30Not only for yourself, but for the group as well.
00:33Yeah, the confidence of the team is already through the roof.
00:39Just with the guys on the side, we feel very comfortable in the things that they do.
00:44Just with the guys coming back, I feel like everybody's matured a little bit more.
00:49Everybody's ready to take the next step.
00:51As far as myself, just trying to be more of a vocal leader.
00:55I'm trying to just step out of my comfort zone.
00:59Whenever I see something, speak up about it.
01:04Understanding that I'm in a position to where I can speak up and just voice my opinion.
01:10And guys will listen.
01:11Being a vocal leader also kind of signifies that you have a command of the defense.
01:16Yeah, yeah.
01:17How have you worked on that?
01:22Yeah, for sure.
01:23Just coming in every day.
01:25Whether that's early.
01:26Whether that's getting up with JK.
01:29Seeing whatever we can do to impact our defense.
01:32Impact our calls.
01:34Sometimes we have certain calls that have different meanings.
01:38But it sounds the same.
01:39Like it's maybe in the same category or something else.
01:41So just trying to specify those things.
01:45Put them in different categories and give them different names.
01:47So it would make it easier for us.
01:48That confidence you said the team has from the offseason moves.
01:51Does that show up on the field?
01:53Can you sense a difference compared to your last couple of years?
01:56Yeah, yeah, yeah, for sure.
01:58I feel like going into this year's OTA is probably the most confident I've been with the group.
02:04I feel like everybody's just bonding so easily.
02:08Even with the new guys coming in, it was like we knew these guys last year.
02:13And we just met them.
02:15So it's been fun bonding and getting to know everybody.
02:17Does that surprise you?
02:18Just expecting to be able to quickly kind of connect with so many new pieces?
02:22Nah, I mean, not really nah, but you know, when you see that, you know,
02:27that everybody's pretty much alike in a way, you know, it's kind of fun to see,
02:32you know, like a boy has a cool personality, you know, Dex.
02:36You know, Dex and BJ have been together for a while.
02:38So it's easy for him to mix with BJ.
02:40And, you know, BJ probably have the biggest personality on the team.
02:42So that make Dex want to, you know, have a big personality as well.
02:45So, you know, it's just been fun getting to learn guys, you know, getting to know guys, you know,
02:50and B Cook as well, you know, like day one meeting him, you know,
02:54it's been like we've been brothers our whole life, so it's been cool.
02:58I remember talking to you at the end of your rookie year,
03:00and you were talking about how you wanted to be a leader.
03:02You wanted to be a captain on this team.
03:03It was hard as a rookie because you got to know your place.
03:06Yeah, yeah, yeah.
03:06Is that still a goal?
03:07You want to wear a C at some point?
03:08Yeah, yeah, for sure.
03:10Definitely a goal, you know, this year, you know, trying to get that C, you know,
03:13be a leader on this team, on this defense, you know,
03:16and be the guy that guys can look up to, you know, and come to, you know,
03:20when they have problems, you know, when something's not going on at home,
03:23not going right at home, you know, you can tell me about it, you know,
03:26we can talk about it, you know, and lead it outside the door,
03:29and then when we get in the building, you know, it's just football, you know,
03:32and just be comfortable around guys.
03:34Is that something you guys consciously think about over this process,
03:36over training camp, or is it the day they say it's time to vote?
03:39You're like, oh, is this popping your head there?
03:43I probably wouldn't say anything about it right now.
03:45I haven't been thinking about it, you know, probably until you just said something.
03:49But, yeah, you know, it's just about, you know, having the confidence, you know,
03:53and guys having the confidence in me, you know,
03:55and then you having the confidence in yourself as well to be able to go out,
03:59you know, go step on the field and then, you know, get a play, call out a play,
04:03you know, make the adjustments, you know, and then everybody's listening
04:06and then everybody's reacting and we're doing good, we're making plays.
04:09So, you know, it's just, it's been a step forward this year, you know,
04:13I feel like for myself, you know, just being that guy who guys feel is a vocal leader,
04:17you know, and I just got to keep progressing.
04:19What did you think of Japan?
04:21Oh, very cool.
04:23How do you hear about that?
04:25DJ does.
04:25Good.
04:26He met you out there.
04:27Nah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
04:28He met me.
04:28He met me out there for like five days.
04:33I was already out there.
04:34I was at it for like four days before him.
04:36So I was out there like, has that always been a place that you wanted to go to?
04:39Was that like on your list?
04:40Nah, not until you said something.
04:41Yeah.
04:42That was like my first trip out of like the country country.
04:45Really?
04:46Yeah.
04:47So it was cool.
04:48Food was great.
04:50Probably ate ramen every day, probably like twice a day.
04:53The cool thing was I could eat twice as much as I eat out there and still lose weight.
04:57So that was the coolest thing.
04:59Kind of opened your mind a little bit going out and going to a place that's so different
05:03than anywhere you've ever been.
05:04For real.
05:05Nah, because like it's like, damn, my food really that bad out here?
05:09It's that processed that when we eat, we gain five, six pounds, which is crazy.
05:15But yeah, that was a cool experience.
05:17I ended up eating stuff I don't really eat.
05:19I'm not really a big seafood guy, but I try a sea snail.
05:23I don't know if y'all know what that is, but they cooked it alive.
05:26Like he brought it out alive and cooked it right in front of us.
05:28And I tried it, which was disgusting to me, but it wasn't bad.
05:33So that was cool.
05:34Then we did a couple like, visited a couple of temples.
05:38That was cool.
05:39Shogun temple, like monastery temples that we couldn't get in because of freaking lives
05:45were too long.
05:46Yeah.
05:46But, um, also doing like bio lab.
05:50It's like a, it's like a light, I don't know if it's like a light therapy thing.
05:54Or like, kind of like a retreat thing, which is very cool.
05:58Went out to like a retreat place, retreat city, Hakone.
06:03It's like, stayed at a hotel.
06:04You got your own like sauna.
06:06It's called like the springs, hot springs.
06:08Hot springs, which is, um, that was cool.
06:11So it was a fun trip.
06:12Did some shopping.
06:14He liked anime.
06:14So we did like an anime workshop, which I ain't know what the, they were talking about
06:18in there, but I just did it cause I was with him.
06:20So that was cool.
06:22So yeah, it was a lot of, it was a lot of stuff.
06:24It was a cool experience.
06:25I'll probably go back one day.
