00:00The first was Ryan Gerrard, his second week in a row versus strokes game putting was funny that he had
00:05they asked him after about the relationship with with JT Post and given that they're all from North Carolina and
00:11he said JT used to come sleep on come visit UNC and sleep on Ben Griffin's couch when he was
00:16in town, which is a pretty, pretty funny little anecdote.
00:20This, to me, is a huge shift because we've had Ryan on the show. We love Ryan. But we all
00:28agreed on the show. He's a putter tinkerer. He's trying to find something that works. He's an amazing ball striker.
00:32And that was the room for improvement. You asked him about this on the show back in February. You're just
00:37saying, hey, how high is the ceiling to your game if you can kind of work on that thing and
00:41make it a little bit better?
00:41And his quotes were a selection from here. Dude, I think it's kind of infuriating because I hit it good
00:46enough to probably win two or three tournaments. And he's talking about last year, 2025, and just did not even
00:52sniff it. I remember Detroit. I think I was tied for the lead eight or nine holes in a Saturday
00:56and I was missing every putt. I'm sitting there like, what are we doing? I think some of it is
01:00I went from a more traditional blade style, something that's a little more mid mallet, a little less toe hang,
01:04a little more back weighted.
01:07So continuation of a theme here, smiley. And I know he uses putter to kind of start the year, but
01:12going back and finding some more confidence in it. What are you seeing? I test wise this change to see
01:18this huge jump average 2.12 strokes gain putting a colonial this week, 2.65 strokes gain mere field village.
01:25What are you seeing in this game that's changed putting wise?
01:28Well, I think just committing to a putter is a start, you know, I could use three or four different
01:32putters in a tournament. So that's a good place to begin.
01:35Also made a caddy change right on the right around the PGA championship. That's something that I think was touched
01:40on the broadcast. And I definitely noticed this week. And when you get a new voice in there, especially one
01:47that that you go in to battle with, as far as just being in contention, which obviously happened with him
01:53at colonial, and then a week later happens at Memorial, you just start to get, you know, in a rhythm
01:57and confidence with with the new guy in your bag.
02:00But it's funny, he has a putter he trains with, and then a putter that he uses, and they're both
02:05exactly the same. We touched on this on our Golf Channel broadcast.
02:09Todd Wilson reported, we showed the pictures, and they look exactly the same, except one has a perpendicular line.
02:16And also an alignment that that runs across it, that that really helped him with his alignment to where he
02:21could just focus on speed. So when he gets out on the golf course, he feels like he's not finding
02:25his aim quite as much, we can just stroke it and the puttering, like as far as the stroke looked
02:30way more confident than I've seen him in the past, you know, at times, you know, you kind of see
02:35different angles. And I know he missed this last putt to the right, but kind of get swipey a little
02:40bit at times, and that blade gets a little bit open.
02:43And I think that all has to do with, you know, just trust in where you're aiming. And when you
02:47when you make a stroke through the through the pot like that, typically, that's something that you would think would
02:54be either an alignment problem or a technical issue. For Ryan, I think it's much more of a just a
03:00trust problem. So it was good to see him make pot after pot after pot really just over the last
03:06two weeks.
03:07He had a great quote today, they're asking, you know, in the immediate aftermath of the loss of just, you
03:12know, what was it like enjoying the atmosphere, knowing that these guys live for the pressure. And his answer was,
03:18I mean, dude, I love it. This is like my favorite thing to do is being in contention to win
03:22a golf tournament. It's one of the hardest things to do. But there's nothing quite like the feeling of just
03:26everything kind of feeling a little shaky, but you know, deep down that you're going to execute and hit a
03:31good shot and just hitting there and striping it or making a big putt or that kind of feeling of
03:35being over the ball.
03:36And knowing that it's going kind of where you want it to. Those are all awesome things. And kind of
03:40why I love competitive golf to its core. You posted on X about how refreshing it is to watch him
03:47play golf. Just expand on that a little bit.
03:50You know, it's for a player that sometimes like the broadcast will even miss him hitting a shot. That's how
03:55quick he will he will play if he's already got the club in his hand. He's a I talked to
04:00Terry again about this on the broadcast and Terry, you know, if you don't know his history played
04:05for coach Balbano, Jimmy, Jimmy V, he played for Balbano on that NC State team. And was a he was
04:13a point, you know, he was a catch and shoot three point guy was like Terry, you like Ryan Gerard.
04:18You know why he's like this guy, you know, he gets the ball and he the ball's going up like
04:22he's not thinking about what he needs to do. He just gets over it. This is what I'm doing. He
04:26just hits and he smashes his irons. He has one of the coolest moves through the ball.
04:33With his pelvis and how he he, you know, just think about, you know, if your lower body and upper
04:39body are connected with, you know, draw a line like through the shot, like his lower body moves so far
04:46out in front and the pelvis and everything is so shifted back and his upper his upper body and his
04:52torso.
04:53So, you know, if you think about the PGA Tour logo and what it looks like, it looks like Ryan
04:57Gerard, man. Like it's such an old screw way to swing the golf club.
