02:19All right, let's quickly cut across to the latest news break that is coming in.
02:22This is a big political jolt.
02:23You can call it a setback for the Congress Party right ahead of the Rajya Sabha elections.
02:28Congress's nominee, Meenakshi Natarajan, from Madhya Pradesh, her nomination stands cancelled.
02:37The reason that has been given regarding the concealment of information or provision of incomplete information concerning criminal cases
02:47in the affidavit submitted by Meenakshi Natarajan along with her nomination paper.
02:53Meenakshi Natarajan's Rajya Sabha nomination from the state of Madhya Pradesh for the Congress is rejected.
02:59This is clearly a big jolt coming in, viewers, for the Congress Party.
03:03The BJP now seemingly comfortably placed to win two seats based on the party's numerical strength in the 230 member
03:12house.
03:13All of this after Meenakshi Natarajan's nomination was cancelled.
03:17The special flight carrying Congress MLAs, because mind you, to safeguard that there was no cross-voting,
03:23Congress MLAs were taken to various resorts.
03:26Now, the flights carrying Congress MLAs were stopped on the runway.
03:30The MLAs are now being bought back.
03:32All in the light of Meenakshi Natarajan's nomination, which now stands cancelled.
03:37She was nominated from the state of Madhya Pradesh.
03:39These two seats are up for Rajya Sabha.
03:43Let's listen in.
03:43The reaction is coming in thick and fast.
03:52This is the case.

06:07The, to put this in perspective,
06:09Meenakshi Natarajan was the Congress's nomination from the state of Madhya Pradesh.
06:14During the scrutiny process, what you just heard,
06:16her nomination now stands cancelled.
06:19In the back of her nomination,
06:20because Meenakshi Natarajan's,
06:23the allegation is that she had withheld information
06:27regarding a pending criminal case in Hyderabad court
06:30in her nomination papers
06:31that did not pass the test of scrutiny
06:34and what is now a major setback to the Congress
06:37right ahead of the Rajya Sabha elections.
06:39The nomination of Meenakshi Natarajan from Madhya Pradesh
06:42has been rejected.
06:44I want to quickly cut across to my colleague Piyush,
06:47who's joining us for more details on this developing story.
06:50Piyush, to bring you in,
06:52the BJP celebrating that Meenakshi Natarajan's nomination stands cancelled.
06:58This at the back of many MLAs
07:02who were being taken to various resorts in Telangana as well from Madhya Pradesh.
07:09Those flights now halted at the back of this.
07:11This is a huge setback that has come in for the Congress party
07:16and Meenakshi Natarajan.
07:17The BJP now comfortably placed to win, you know,
07:22the two seats based on the party's numerical strength.
07:25This was the third seat which was in question
07:27and now it seems it's game over on that as well.
07:31Well, that's right, Preeti.
07:32It's a big setback for the Congress party
07:34as its lone candidate for Rajya Sabha election
07:37has now lost its chance of contesting the elections.
07:42Why?
07:42Because Meenakshi Natarajan's nomination
07:44has been rejected by a returning officer.
07:46Remember that how it all started.
07:49BJP leaders, they initially filed a formal complaint
07:53with a returning officer
07:54where they demanded the cancellation of Natarajan's nomination.
07:58BJP also alleged that Meenakshi Natarajan
08:00concealed the information regarding an active court case
08:04against her in Telangana in a mandatory election.
08:07Soon after that, the investigation happened.
08:10One returning officer started listening to both the sides.
08:13At the time, the Congress party also came out with its defense
08:16saying that under election commission guidelines,
08:19candidates are only required to disclose
08:21formally registered criminal cases,
08:24not uneducated legal notices.
08:26But returning officer, after doing the thorough scrutiny
08:29of the papers, nomination papers of Meenakshi Natarajan,
08:33has now rejected her nomination.
08:34Why?
08:35Because she did not disclose the pending case
08:38which is there in Telangana court.
08:40Now, it is certainly a huge setback for the Congress party
08:43because now, after the nomination which has been rejected,
08:46BJP has already fielded third candidate.
08:49And Mahesh Kewat is the third candidate from the side of BJP.
08:53It had already announced the names of Tarun Chugan, Rajneesh Agrawal.
08:56And they were very much comfortable in securing this position
08:59as the Rajya Sabha member from Madhya Pradesh.
09:02And if you go by the numbers, in the current strength of Madhya Pradesh,
09:06there are around 228 sitting MLAs.
09:09You require 58 votes to win one Rajya Sabha seat.
09:12So, BJP was very much comfortable.
09:14So, the BJP had two in the back.
09:16The third one was under contention.
09:18I just want to simplify it for our viewers.
09:20There were three seats up where Rajya Sabha was concerned
09:23from the state of Madhya Pradesh.
09:24The BJP had the numerical strength for two.
09:27The game was on the third seat,
09:29which could have been won by the Congress.
09:31The Congress was already moving MLAs to various resorts
09:33so that there is no cross-voting.
09:36Or there was coercion on that.
09:38But what has happened is that Meenakshi Natarajan's papers
09:41allegedly haven't passed the test of scrutiny
09:43where there are allegations that she has hidden
09:46a criminal case against her,
09:48which was filed in Hyderabad.
09:50But viewers, I want to take you through another dramatic development
09:53because the Congress is saying this is not fair.
09:55So, why is the Congress saying this is not fair?
09:58Because the Congress has now raised objection
10:00on what is happening in Jharkhand.
10:03Because in Jharkhand, it seems there are two candidates, two rules.
10:07One faces cancellation, one gets time.
10:09What do I mean with what I say?
10:12Let's cut across right now.
10:14Because in Jharkhand, Parimal Ratwani is the candidate
10:19backed by the BJP-led NDA.
10:22Parimal Ratwani, who is an industrialist,
10:25an independent candidate backed by the BJP-led NDA.
10:28He, in his form, he, in his form,
10:32has left the criminal charges.
10:34The criminal charges column vacant.
10:37And there is an error in his name.
10:41And in terms of the sequencing of his name,
10:44there is an error in that name as well.
10:46So, technically, the Congress says
10:48he should have also been rejected.
10:50But he has now been given time till 11 a.m. tomorrow, viewers.
10:54So, how is it that one candidate has been given time
10:58till 11 a.m. to pass the test of scrutiny
11:01and the other candidate of the Congress has been rejected
11:04and not given time to maybe rectify
11:06and change that column
11:07and add the details to that column?
11:10Because what will happen now is,
11:12at least from Madhya Pradesh,
11:13the BJP has already announced a third candidate.
11:16The fight was on the third candidate.
11:19And that was the seat on which
11:21the Congress had fielded,
11:23Meenakshi Ratrajan,
11:24whose nomination now stands cancelled
11:26while in Jharkhand,
11:29where the nomination papers
11:31of Peeramal Natwani,
11:33an independent candidate
11:34backed by the BJP-led NDA,
11:37his nomination papers also had
11:39not one but two errors.
11:40One error,
11:41the criminal charges section
11:42was left with no answer.
11:45It was left wakened.
11:46So, he's been asked
11:48to either say that he has no criminal charges
11:50or fill in the details there.
11:52Number two,
11:53the sequencing of his name,
11:55there is an error in the sequencing of his name.
11:58So, once again,
11:59he has been told to change that
12:01and resubmit his application,
12:04his nomination,
12:05and he's been given time to 11 a.m. tomorrow.
12:08So, why is it
12:09that there is one rule
12:11for what's happening in Jharkhand
12:13and the other
12:14with what is happening
12:15in Madhya Pradesh?
12:17Same election,
12:18two very different rules,
12:19two very different states,
12:20something that the Congress
12:21has raised itself.
12:23But I want to focus,
12:24I want to go across right now
12:25to Madhya Pradesh.
12:26And I believe we have
12:28Ravish Pal Singh,
12:29my colleague,
12:30who's joining us from there,
12:31giving us the latest.
12:32Ravish,
12:33what does this mean now?
12:35Clearly,
12:35Meenakshi Natarajan's nomination
12:37stands rejected.
12:38She's out of the race.
12:39The BJP was all set
12:41to win two Rajya Sabha seats.
12:42Now, the third one,
12:43which was in contention,
12:45they've announced
12:46a candidate for that as well.
12:47It seems BJP will get
12:48all three in the bag.
13:09The BJP's candidates are
13:10Tarun, Chug,
13:11Rajni, Shagrawal
13:12and now,
13:12Mahesh Kewat.
13:13Three,
13:14Nirvirod,
13:15which is going to go
13:16to the Raja Sabha
13:16for the last day.
13:17Congress has
13:17this to be
13:18the people who have
13:19said to this.
13:20Congress has
13:20to say that
13:21that this is
13:21that this is
13:22a matter of
13:24that the BJP
13:26has been
13:26in the last day.
13:27The BJP has
13:28in the last day
13:29and the next day
13:30BJP has
13:31a
13:31a
13:32good day
13:33which
13:34didn't
13:35do it.
13:35the nomination process
13:36in the process.
13:55Thank you very much.

21:42Thank you very much.
21:42where she's gone to the residence and you know of sonia gandhi and met her there's a lot of
21:47speculation back in delhi indrajeet and that speculation is that she's possibly mamata banuji
21:52is being advised by many in the india alliance that she should merge with the congress you know
21:56where she came from the congress and she should merge with the congress and protect her party
22:00this really hasn't gone down well with the west bengal congress unit how much of this is pure
22:05sheer speculation well i know of people who actually share that view this is uh one of the
22:13options that has been suggested uh you know to mamata banerji is what i am told within the tmc
22:18quarters but that that is a distant reality right now you know no such step is being taken right away
22:24of course the trinimal congress and mamata banerji clearly wants to cozy up with the congress she
22:29doesn't have too many options left at this point in time she needs the support of a national party
22:34for survival and therefore she needs the congress by her side and that is precisely the reason
22:39why she's uh you know staying back in new delhi hectic parlays are underway and as you said we
22:45haven't seen in the recent last few years mamata banerji rushing to sonia gandhi's residence for
22:50this meeting but that the fact that it has happened right now in the backdrop of the poll debacle does
22:56tell you the seriousness of the situation back at hand even when she's meeting sonia gandhi you have
23:02uh cid raids happening at her own residence at the trinimal congress official headquarters in
23:08kolkata and uh you know the case also involves abhishek banerji there's a lot of speculation he did
23:13what's going on you know appear before the cid today so lots going on and she needs the congress
23:17for survival and and the two parties are cozy up they're just trying to fix up a mechanism all right
23:23and the guessing game continues back here in delhi thank you indra uh getting us the very latest and
23:27first interviews on the network i want to quickly take our viewers through the sequence of events as
23:32they have developed in the last 48 hours mantha banerji abhishek banerji continue to be in the
23:37national capital we discussed some of the speculations at uh you know in the frame that are being
23:43discussed back here in delhi but lot went down in that uh all party meet of the nda of the
23:50india alliance
23:50i beg your pardon which took place yesterday uh from fierce election rivals to warm political allies what
23:56comes off the tmc and the congress and on the other hand the entire india alliance
24:04just months ago they were trading barbs on the campaign trail today they are sharing hugs smiles and
24:12photographs the southern bonhomie between the congress and the trinimal congress has triggered
24:19intense political speculation it was the trinimal itself that shared pictures of mamata banerji with
24:25sonia gandhi rahul gandhi and malika junkarge after the india bloc meeting in delhi and a day
24:33later mamata banerji paid a visit to sonia gandhi at 10 janpat the optics have become impossible to
24:40ignore especially amid whispers that the embattled former bengal chief minister is moving closer to the
24:48congress as rebellion rockser party adding fuel to the speculation was sanjay raud's call for all congress
24:55offshoots to merge back with the parent party to take on the bgp but behind the smiles sources say the
25:03india bloc meeting saw allies target the congress sources tell india today that several allies targeted
25:10the congress the grand old party was criticized for poor coordination for launching personal attacks
25:17against allies and for failing to carry coalition partners along akhilesh yadav is learned to have
25:23raised several concerns with other allies backing him the message from partners was blunt congress must
25:31show a bigger heart if the opposition alliance wants to stay united all this as momata battles a growing
25:39revolt already battling a rebellion in bengal the revolt is now spilled into parliament
25:46rebel mp kakuli ghosh claims she is the real chief whip of the tmc in the lok sabhar the momata
25:53camp
25:53counters that kalyan banerji remains the authorized chief whip the rebel claim they have the support of
26:0020 tmc mps momata loyalists dismissed the figure as fiction insisting several mps named by the rebels have
26:09publicly rejected the claim the rebels accused momata's government of failing on development
26:14and claimed the agi core outrage triggered the unrest the tmc's response is equally sharp the rebels say
26:23they want to join the nda the momata camp calls them traitors and challenges them to resign and seek a
26:30fresh mandate
26:33with rebels challenging her authority at home momata banerji seems keen to strengthen her equations in
26:40delhi the hugs and handshakes may have been presented as india block solidarity but they also come at a
26:48moment when the turanimal supremo needs friends more than ever bureau report india today
26:56all right cutting across to our big debate this evening all our panelists gets two minute time each
27:01introducing our panelists this evening dr manav jaiswal tmc spokesperson
27:04salem dharani dharan spokesperson dmk brijesh kalappa national spokesperson congress uh priyanka
27:11tibrewal spokesperson bjp i'd like to begin with the congress spokesperson and i'd like to begin
27:16with the news break uh mr kalappa uh that we just dipped into where uh a seemingly a setback for
27:23your
27:23political party there has been uh the rejection of the nomination papers of minakshi natarajan
27:30from the state of madhya pradesh that would mean a clean sweep for the bjp on three on three
27:34where madhya pradesh is concerned but having said that i believe you have raised your objections and
27:39what's happening in jharkhand where an independent uh mr natwani uh parimal natwani who has been backed
27:45by the bjp has been given time tomorrow till 11 a.m to rectify his nomination papers
27:54yeah i think as far as uh the the issue is concerned first is that mr parimal natwani is uh
28:01a senior executive in uh along with uh mr ambani so therefore there definitely will be a specialized
28:10treatment being offered to him but is that specialized treatment being offered to him something which is
28:15allowed by the constitution of india certainly not i think it's very clear that there is one
28:21set of rules for what happens within the congress and for one set of rules for what happens in the
28:27in the ruling establishment now let me ask a very simple question bjp was saying that there is a
28:33supreme court ruling which obliges each candidate to declare all the criminal cases that they have
28:41against them and that the congress candidate hasn't done so because it's merely a summons now point is
28:47that the same judgment of the supreme court also states that every single person who contests an
28:54election also has to have his or her educational qualifications declared has this been done by the
29:00prime minister of india if those qualifications are stated by the prime minister of india are they
29:07correct are they genuine this is a question which we must all ask ourselves why is a specialized
29:13treatment being given to mr modi who obviously does not have a degree who's obviously faking it who
29:20obviously has a fabricated degree why is he allowed to continue as the prime minister of india despite the
29:26fact that his degrees have been challenged now at the very initial stage pro officer can say that look
29:33we are dismissing your uh your uh your nomination papers certainly an opportunity has to be given
29:41to the candidate to to uh correct the the manner in which the nomination papers have been filed and
29:49that is actually being done in the case of jarkand in the case of mr parimal natwani who's a senior
29:55executive with mr ambani in the relance group but that same privilege is denied to a person who is a
30:02genuine political uh you know worker a political activist and but something goes to the uh okay
30:10sir your time is up i want to bring in priyanka tibriwal priyanka tibriwal i know this is not what
30:14you joined in for you joined in for the development and the tmc but the question yeah mr bribal the
30:20question is very clear good for the gander good for the good special privileges to a bjp-backed
30:24candidate rejection for the congress-backed candidate no so i'll just whatever i heard here regarding
30:30that so i'll just say that he just said that you know those were just summons and case was not
30:34registered so summons can't be sent until a case is registered so the answer is simple so summons
30:39were sent because the case was registered and if you have received the summons which means that you
30:44were aware that there is a case which is pending against you you should have just spoken about it
30:48in the documents now see this is what the law says and uh finishing it there now if i come
30:53back to
30:53that okay i'll freeze your timer i will freeze your timer and allow me to ask you this question
30:58mr bribal what is fascinating and that's the question if the bjp has no hand in the implosion
31:04of the tmc be it in west bengal because the people wanted it or where the parliamentary party is
31:10concerned how is it that meetings are taking place in bupendra yadav's residence how is it that these
31:15meetings of the tmc rebel faction of mps is being chaired by none other but chief minister of west bengal
31:23the mps of any party and mps of bjp it is not like that it is india and pakistan we
31:31all stay in
31:32bengal we all can meet if there is any uh phone call which we get from another mp and if
31:37he insists
31:37that he wants to meet the cm can meet the leaders can meet see after all we're a national party
31:42people
31:43can look up to us people may have certain things or queries to ask us they are welcome we cannot
31:48just
31:48throw them out of the house that no you can't enter our house because we are bjp mps now the
31:53main reason here why you know mamata banerji is enraged as she's dispatched by these rebels who are
31:59now refusing to be under her umbrella now we've got nothing to do with this it is mamata banerji
32:06and her party to decide whether they want to be together whether they want to split what can
32:11we do about this nothing can be done at all see today they have decided you know to accost
32:16her because it is abhishek banerji and mamata banerji for whom these people according to them
32:22whatever they are saying i'm repeating the same that according to them they believe that you know
32:26they are getting a disrepute they are getting a discomfort because of the ways in which trinamul
32:34was run by mamata banerji and abhishek banerji where the other mps had nothing to say and they were
32:40never hurt this is what has been told by their mps where do we fit in here nowhere we can
32:46just
32:46listen to them and if somebody wants to support us we can't stop them to support us okay your time
32:53is
32:53your time is over but i'll circle back we i hear you on every account if somebody wants to support
32:58you you can't stop them from supporting you my question is still remained has remained unanswered
33:02how are these that these meetings are taking place where bupendrai adav is concerned he's the primary
33:07person holding these meetings somebody can meet the chief minister and give out and you know and
33:12it's very nice that the chief minister is addressing the grievances but the chief minister flies down
33:17from west bengal to the national capital to chair a meeting of the rebel tmcs which is taking place
33:24and dhupendrai adav's residence the chronology madam is the chief minister was there in delhi for some of the
33:29other work if any man the chronology and and and dhupendrai adav is also involved
33:35if ma'am you're also smiling in all of this i understand this is all a part of politics
33:40if i call you today and i say that there is something i want to meet
33:43will you ask me not to come to your house of course if you have time you give me time
33:46right
33:47ma'am will you okay ma'am i you'll come all the way from kolkata to my house
33:54okay i'll i'll come back
33:55i may be in delhi for some other work okay okay he was there
33:58some other work and you okay it was okay it was divine intervention he was in delhi for some
34:03other work so was bupendrai adav who was free at that point of time and everyone culminated
34:08no no everyone culminated i'm saying all all three factions coming together
34:13shubhendu adhikari bupendrai adav and the rebel mls mps i beg your pardon i'm just okay i want to i
34:19i hear you out but you know the larger question is and i will bring in dr manav jaiswal dr
34:24jaiswal
34:25you are laughing in all of this but the fact is your party is imploding these are people who don't
34:29want to be with your party anymore a pretty first of all good evening to everyone i really love the
34:35way
34:35prehanka articulates the whole aspect of this bjp coup nevertheless there's one more person who was
34:42missing shubhendu adhikari's brother he was also sitting in that meeting he was already present
34:46there and it was the most expensive tea chai pe charcha pan world there could not be any more
34:53expensive chai pe charcha kind of a thing that happens in bubendrai adav ji's house very true and
34:58i've literally heard just now like amish shaji is also intervening and he's actually calling
35:03couple of mps like dev was called directly by amish shaji uh yusuf patang ji has been called
35:09he's made a personal what does it say what does it say about your own party doctor dr jaiswal these
35:15are people who confirmed to be loyalists of mamata banerji today in five minutes it's taken them to
35:21switch camps what does it say about your own leaders sir it just says i got two minutes and
35:27you just literally barged into those two minutes you could have extended i held your i held your timer
35:31sir you still have your time the timer is meant for my flow the flow the outburst that i have
35:39i'll give you uninterrupted one minute go your outburst
35:42my whole breath is gone i have to come back again i have to come back again let's see the
35:47whole idea is
35:47tmc is all about martin manal and there's about 2.6 pro people who have already voted for
35:52mamata banerji even in this bad timeline that they can talk about it and none of them was so
35:58you know vocal on the 4th of may none of us having so much of a whole love with the
36:03shuman jothikari never wanted to go to the leader of the opposition nobody claimed to go to the
36:08speakers and tell no i am unable to get my funds nothing as such these are all excuses the excuses
36:13because of the ed there could be an excuse because of the cbi there could be an excuse of the
36:17power
36:18there could be an excuse okay because all these 15 years i've been into power now i cannot go beyond
36:22without the power i have to be with power so the power thirsty people are there these are not the
36:27leaders of the mahmati manus mahmati manus leader is muhammata banerji and the people have voted for
36:32muhammata banerji so these people are so good and they have been so keen on working with the people of
36:36the state over the country over the nation at last they should go and fight an election again
36:41set a principle no morality does not count in or any kind of ethics found in the political fraternity as
36:47on today you have been seen pan across india how bjp is okay sir your time is up and because
36:53we had
36:53news break we've run out of time i want to give it like 10 seconds i believe the congress wanted
36:57to
36:57come in just 10 seconds sir please 10 seconds and i'll give 10 seconds you've got your two minutes
37:06sir one second 10 seconds each to everyone sir go ahead make your final point mr kalappa
37:11pretty i think i was called for a different debate you took my two minutes for a different
37:17and if you like i can also if you give me a couple of minutes i can speak about what
37:22i think
37:22about this entire tmc falling apart so first thing i'd like to say pretty is the fact that like in
37:29the
37:29film drishyam where the criminal wants the police to see a certain thing there is a drishyam which is
37:37being played by the forces or the bjp throughout the country and this is something which we are all
37:44witnessing because yesterday the india alliance meeting takes place and at the same time there
37:50is yet another meeting taking place in mr bhupinder yadav's house and who has organized this meeting is
37:55the bjp so this is all a drishyam okay drishyam okay so that it can easily steal away mamtab energy's
38:06mandate 30 seconds okay mr briwal 30 seconds ma'am go ahead exactly so they do not know how to
38:13fill up
38:13a form and they blame bjp for that because they're busy we're busy watching drishyam you go to watch
38:18yourself now this is exactly what uh samajwadi party congress are they're all facing you know
38:23they are all failing on their own front now they want to sit together have tea biscuits carry on nobody
38:29stopping you that's the beauty of democracy that you all together are unable to take it on bjp
38:36okay dr jaiswar 30 seconds now i need to i need to add one more thing i know personally she
38:43had fought
38:43a very beautiful battle in 2026 and he she has an opposition named sandeepan shaha and he's one
38:50of the rebel and he's the first one who was expelled so i believe brahinka ji will be beautifully
38:56accepting him as well he's he's he would be one of the best uh fine person for the bjp let's
39:03let's
39:13be discussing the same uh situation because it is dynamic as it develops where the tmc is concerned
39:19a quick to the point once again putting the spotlight on stories that rarely find the spotlight
39:24but need to be told this one the destination is a government job the journey however is anything
39:30but easy lacks of candidates on the move for the up constable exam scenes of chaos overcrowding have
39:36once again raised questions about infrastructure planning and jobs here is a special report we leave you
39:51with this
39:54back chains
39:57overflowing platform
40:02send endless hours of waiting some spread bed sheets on station floors others make do with plastic sheets
40:12it's a familiar scene year after year every recruitment exam brings with it not just the test of knowledge
40:18but the test of endurance
40:22from towns and villages across sutra pradesh thousands set out with a single goal clearing the up constable exam
40:30is
40:53Nearly 28.9 lakh candidates competing for just 32,679 constable vacancies.
41:02The odds are daunting, the journey even more so.
41:06Making it to the exam hall is just the first hurdle.
41:09What they fear most are paper leaks and cancelled tests.
41:32We hope that the people who are posting, they are doing the paper leak.
41:38In which way, they are trying to keep their lives here for two days,
41:43and where they are not going to be standing until they are standing,
41:46people come here.
41:48You can see the camera on the back of the camera,
42:15They have battled for space on trains, they are also fighting a system that has repeatedly
42:19tested their patients with leaks and poor infrastructure.
42:40This time, they hope the test measures only their merit.
42:45With Sima Chawla, Gajinder Tripathi and Abhishek Tripathi, Bureau Report, India Today.
