00:33Such a quickening of interest and excitement when that old cup comes around again.
00:37And today we have three ties that have a good spread of that excitement and goals as well.
00:42Our line-up, Southampton against Manchester United.

01:01So it's going to be action all the way today as we start with the match of the round.
01:05And certainly it lived up to it.

01:11In the centenary year of the FA Cup, here is as intriguing a third round tie as you could wish

13:30But Ted Bates, the Southampton manager, not so happy with his situation,
13:36knowing that he now has got to pull his side up
13:38and get them back on their feet after this goal by Bobby Charlton
13:42that has put Manchester United 1-0 in the lead at half-time.
13:58And it's Manchester United who get us away in the second half.
14:03The rain not in any way lessening during the interval.
14:08The pitch, of course, getting heavier.
14:09The lines have been remarked, or certainly the penalty spots in the goal lines.
14:14And a good catch there by Martin, out of the rain and the lights.
14:22And now Southampton have no choice but to go forward and hunt for goals
14:26to try and force themselves back into this game.
14:30Shannon, the man who can do it if anyone can.
14:36Davis back to O'Brien, who's shown no signs of his injury,
14:40but giving the ball away there to Best, which is a dangerous thing to do.
14:44And that looked a very calculated trip by Roger Fry.
14:47And Mr Walker's hand goes to his back pocket, which is where he keeps his notebook.

15:34And it does seem that having seized the initiative,

19:04but Morgan is certainly booked.
19:11Little Bobby Stokes, who came into football
19:14with a burst, scoring two goals against Burnley
19:16in his first match,
19:18has turned into a real destroyer in midfield.
19:23And the rain now absolutely soaking the spectators,
19:28but so enthralling has been this game.
19:30I guess a lot of them have scarcely noticed it.
19:38Many of evidence on George Best's chest of the mud.
19:41And that is the end of the proceedings.
19:45Manchester United have started their cup campaign
19:47this season as they did last season with a draw.
19:50And what a draw it was.
19:51A titanic struggle.

20:26Well, in fact, it was a competitive cup tie
20:28and a most enjoyable one
20:29under extremely difficult conditions.
20:30Congratulations to all 22 players
20:32and to the referee, Keith Walker,
20:34for providing such an entertaining afternoon.

20:38but it was two veterans, really,
20:40fighting for the major honours of the game.
20:42The first Manchester United's Bobby Charlton
20:44really running around like a two-year-old
20:46on that treacherous surface.
20:48He was dominating the middle of the field
20:50with Morgan,
20:51who was here on the ball in the first half,
20:53and always taking the opportunity
20:54to have a crack from this position.
20:56That one's too high,
20:57but there was plenty of power in it.
20:59And the next shot brought out
21:00a really marvellous save
21:02from goalkeeper Eric Martin.
21:03There's Bobby who starts the move there,
21:06nonchalantly plays it out to the left wing
21:07and watches it's laid back,
21:08this time with his left foot.
21:10A first-time shot,
21:11accurately going there
21:12for the far corner of the goal
21:13and a really brilliant save by Martin,
21:16applauded there by Bobby.
21:17And from this free kick,
21:19showing how full of running he is,
21:21he pushes the ball up
21:22and goes striding after it
21:24for the return.
21:25This time, I think,
21:26he made the mistake
21:27of trying to guide it in the corner
21:28instead of letting go
21:30one of his blasting shots.
21:32But just look at the running he did back.
