00:00Zach Braxton Smith here at the Weluga Sale Yards for Queensland Country Life.
00:04We've just wrapped up the second annual Weluga Brahmin Commercial Female Sale.
00:09A big rock-up of people here when I turned up this morning, about 200, double last year,
00:14bidding on about 500 head of quality commercial females.
00:19People from local areas were well represented around the Burnett and Gympie,
00:24but also vendors and buyers from up into central Queensland as well.
00:29Now, great result last year.
00:31Sandy McCartney, the sale organiser, said it was prices like being at Disneyland.
00:36And I won't hold you in suspense for too much longer on how it went this year.
00:41The results from today, Dale and Steph Olive actually won the champion pen of females.
00:45I think their champion pen went on to make $4,100.
00:50But we'll go through the results.
00:51We had a group of wiener and yearling heifers.
00:54The top pen of those were a 10 of pen of Tony and Catherine Mortimer's,
00:57heifers that made $4,050 average per animal.
01:04Their whole group averaged $2,600.
01:06The PDIC heifers, the top of them was a pen for $3,850.
01:11A buck of stations, they averaged $3,400.
01:15And the PDIC cows, the top pen was $4,100 of Dale and Steph Olive's,
01:20and they averaged $3,400.
01:21Just an amazing result, especially for pre-tested havers.
01:26But the young camp held up like a good bleep.
01:28We were seeing, you know, $10 a kilo.
01:30Exactly.
01:31For these young, sort of breeder, quality heifers.
01:33Like, it was just an amazing day.
01:35Amazing day.
01:36And as we said, the quality was there.
01:38Temperament spot on.
01:40Presentation, the cattle.
01:40And a good crowd of people, respecting the breed,
01:43know what they can do,
01:45and what they can put any bull over them,
01:46produce an article.
01:48So, congratulations to the vendors and AWVA.
01:52And a great day out.
01:53Well, this is a great way to promote your females
01:55and what they can do,
01:56and especially the PDICs, they're already...
01:58And we were just having the discussion after the sale,
02:00thinking how dear it was,
02:02but I mean, what does it cost you and where do you go?
02:04Well, exactly.
02:05To come and get an article that's ready to drop your calf
02:08in three months' time
02:09and start earning an income for you within 12 months,
02:13obviously, next year, you come to Waluga, mate.
02:15Exactly right, you know.
02:16We'll have another 600 here,
02:17and they'll be bigger and better.
02:18Yeah, and a good run of females.
02:20Again, you know, people saying they're lining up again
02:22with as good of females,
02:24and probably won't even be better.
02:26As you said, like them practice females,
02:28you know, a bit of money,
02:29but all the same,
02:31they don't take much for a wean to steer
02:32to be worth $1,500 or $1,600.
02:34Yeah, exactly.
02:35You know, but going forward,
02:38the unjoined females,
02:39you know, people were respecting the quality
02:41that was here today and the genetics.
02:44You know, there's been a lot of breeding
02:45going into these cattle,
02:47and it's been well supported.
02:49So thanks to both the exhibitors
02:52and the purchasers,
02:54all the buyers that, you know,
02:56they've stepped up and paid for quality.
02:58Yeah, and what a great promotion for that.
03:00Exactly, exactly right.
03:02I don't see much better.
03:08.
03:08You
