Transcript
00:00Hi Essence family, this is Yolanda Sanguini, entertainment editor at Essence.com. Welcome
00:09to Coffee Talk, your weekly dose of what's hot on Essence.com. This week we had the pleasure
00:14of hosting the Braxton sisters. That's Tamar, Tawanda, Trina and Tracy. They talked about
00:20drama on the show, family, relationships, marriage and success. The number one thing
00:27to expect is the Braxton's on steroids. We have taken it all the way to the max, out
00:31the door. Season one, I think you just kind of, we introduce the characters and you just
00:36got a glimpse into their lives, kind of get to know who they are. Season two is almost
00:40like an extension of season one. You go a little bit more in depth into everybody's lives. You're
00:45kind of looking at everybody with a microscope, pretty much. Season two for Braxton family values
00:51is like season one on a hundred steroids. Even when we first, first started, we got
00:57comfortable with the cameras like pretty much the second day. So, you know, it really wasn't
01:04a big transition. The only difference is people know who we are and we have to be conscious
01:07of having our hair done all the time because, you know, all the time we don't feel like, you
01:11know, being glammed up and stuff. So, I have to keep my hair combed. Obviously, financially,
01:17it has helped tremendously. We're able to get a lot of the things that we wanted to do
01:23and wanted to get before and that's great. Financial, wonderful thing. Personally, it
01:29has definitely opened doors and avenues for us that we didn't have before and instead of
01:36riding on the fact that Toni Braxton is our sister, she's a superstar, we are able to have
01:41our own identities and that's very important for us too. It's a passion of mine to open up
01:46a salon, not, you know, the fly-by-night salon. I want a long-term salon, not the recession
01:55salon which is open one week, next week has to close down. I would really like to open
02:01one, maybe a spa with it also. It's not an easy feat being a marriage. Marriage is one
02:05of the hardest things you'll ever encounter in your whole entire life, outside of being
02:08a parent. And for me, this isn't my first marriage, this is my second time around. But,
02:12you know, if this doesn't work, you know, I'll just be Elizabeth Taylor too. You know,
02:15I'll just keep going and going and going until I get it right. And that's what I was telling
02:18her on season one and they thought I was picking on them. So, you know, I'm glad she's finally
02:22taking my advice. I'm not taking your advice. But, you know, people have to come to that
02:26realization for themselves. I'm just glad to say that there's so many women who have
02:31contacted me or have written me on Twitter, you know, to say, you know, Tawanda, hooray for you for
02:37being courageous to come out to tell the truth about what's going on. Because there's so many women who's in
02:41the same situation that I'm in. I love my sisters. I'm very vocal because I'm passionate and because
02:46I care about them. And you'll learn that I decided that I'm going to grow up a bit and I probably
02:52needed to. I needed to see this mirrored image of myself to kind of tone it down a bit. First,
02:58let me say you see a softer side of Tamar, but it's not exactly soft. She's still Tamar. So,
03:05I'm a work in progress, but that's okay. Yes, it's definitely okay. At least you recognize.
03:09I think for season two, I've noticed my strength, especially my relationship. So,
03:17I have a lot of growth there. I absolutely agree with Toni's statement. It is absolutely Tamar,
03:23whose head has blown up just a bit. Dot edu. It has blown up. Just a little bit.
03:28M.G. She really thinks she can talk and say anything. She really wants to. I do believe
03:35my sister have a little bit of a touch of T-Rex. T-Rex, you think T-Rex? Oh, chill.
03:43I think that's absolutely ridiculous. Tamar, do you think that was geared towards you and
03:47if so, why? And do you think it's true? Because she was referring to the first episode. And in the
03:52first episode, she blatantly said, Tamar, I'm just saying, you know, I can't handle success and
03:58all this ratchet and ridiculousness because, you know, I don't feel like I've changed at all. I've
04:02been the same person since I was about two years old. So far, I'm a little bit more mature now.
04:07And taller. Read on. Well, there you have it. Tamar is this way only when she's with her family
04:15because she knows that her family is not going to punch her in her face or do anything like that.
04:21You know, she's only like that with us. She's not like that with anybody else. So, of course,
04:27we definitely, we've created the monster. Yes, we did. We've allowed her to say whatever she wanted
04:32to say. For years. Yeah, for years. And then gradually, it has gotten progressively worse.
04:36Yeah. And now that she's dot-com Tamar, it has really gotten worse. She really thinks she can pop,
04:42pop, pop, pop, pop, pop, pop. She really does. But, you know, we are creating boundaries for Tamar.
04:48Yeah. I do feel like we need to do a Braxton's album with or without Tony because I feel like
04:52we owe it to ourselves to see if we can do it. And, you know, I do believe that Tracy needs to see
04:58how hard it is. That it's just not getting up singing. It's a lot of hard work.
05:02I don't know if it's going to happen. I don't know if it's not going to happen. I have no idea.
05:07I just think we have to see. I don't know. Tamar is working on her album.
05:11Trina is working on her album. I'm working on my acting. Tracy's working on her thing.
05:17So, her salon. Who knows? Big commercial.
05:19We are. We'll be right back.
05:22Personally, my relationship has opened up. Andre and I have been able to really communicate
05:29because he was able to see himself. That's one great thing about reality shows.
05:32It allows you to see yourself for who you are because the things that you say comes out of your mouth.
05:38So, I think that was great for me. My relationships with my sisters, it's better.
05:44It's much better because we don't sweep things under the rug anymore because we can't.
05:48We can't. We can't hide and run from it anymore and pretend it didn't happen.
05:52I learned for myself I need to express how I feel and stay just blowing up.
05:59Yeah, she blows up.
06:00Or just walking away. I just need to stay there, be confronted, and deal with it.
06:09That's my issue.
06:12Tracy's a hothead.
06:14I am.
06:14And you'll be able to see that a little bit more in Season 2 for Braxton Family Values on WeTV on Thursday nights at 9 p.m.
06:22You'll be able to see that.
06:23So, there you have it, folks, the Braxtons.
06:26Make sure to log on to Essence.com for your weekly dose of coffee talk.
06:30I'm Yolanda Sanguini, Entertainment Editor at Essence.com. Goodbye.
